Betrayed and Claimed by the Lycan King Chapter 311
Isolde's POV
I found myself shot up instinctively.
"Jesus, is she okay?" My voice cracked slightly.
"I was just about to go check on the situation," He said, already moving toward the door.
"I'm coming with you," I declared.
"You don't have to force yourself," He replied.
"I insist. Let's go!"
He led the way out.
*I don't like Lillian,* I admitted to myself, *but I sure as hell don't want her dead. I hope she's okay.*
---
The private hospital's VIP waiting area felt like a pressure cooker. Lillian was still in the emergency room while Ezra paced outside the designated VIP room like a caged wolf.
"Why would she slit her wrists?" he muttered to himself, running his hands through his hair. "Was she actually trying to kill herself?"
I kept my distance, watching him carefully. The raw Alpha energy radiating from him was making Lyra restless in my mind, and I could feel her unease bleeding into my own emotions. *I hate seeing him like this,* I realized. *This isn't the controlled, commanding Alpha I'm used to. This is... broken.*
"Ezra," I said cautiously, "did you two have some kind of fight?"
He stopped pacing and turned to face me, his gray eyes flashing with hints of gold – never a good sign.
"I didn't raise my voice at her," Ezra said, "She didn't raise hers either. We just... you know..." He shrugged. "We just talked."
I studied his face carefully. "But not in your usual tone... You were angry about something she'd done in the past, so you confronted her. Am I right?"
Ezra let out a heavy sigh, his fingers unconsciously fidgeting with the silver ring. "Yeah, you're right."
I looked at him with assessing eyes. "Do you realize how scary you are when you're confronting someone?"
The question seemed to catch him off guard. *He has no idea,* I thought, remembering my own experiences with his intense stare. *When those gray eyes turn cold and he radiates that Alpha power, even the bravest wolves would feel terrified. But he doesn't seem to realize it.*
"What was I supposed to do after finding out she lied to me the entire time we were together?" His voice took on sharp edge. "Pamper her?"
"Of course not," I said quickly. "I'm just saying, she probably felt scared and threatened. You're the most powerful Alpha in the city, Ezra. Your power and position alone can intimidate anyone."
"So she decided to kill herself?" Ezra threw his hands up in the air, letting out a bitter laugh. "Suicide, out of all possible options! Fantastic, just fantastic!"
He stopped pacing abruptly, one hand on his hip, the other massaging his forehead– he looked utterly exhausted.
*He looks drained,* I observed. *This kind of emotional breakdown is so unlike him.*
"Hey..." I called softly, moving closer to him.
Deep in my mind, Lyra whimpered softly, wanting to comfort our Alpha. *Because of the mate bond,* I realized, *I really hate seeing him tired like this. I can feel his pain and frustration, and it's stronger than I want to admit.*
I stepped in front of his tall frame. Without saying a word, I gently took his hand away from his forehead and held it in both of mine, never breaking eye contact.
"I know this is hard, but I need you to calm down," I said softly. "Pacing around here and getting worked up isn't going to do you any good. Come here."
I led him by the hand to the nearby leather chairs, acutely aware of the curious glances from hospital staff.
Once we were seated, Ezra's explanation poured out. "I'm just really confused why she would want to do something like that. We didn't have a screaming match. I didn't raise my voice at her. I just told her that until she's ready to tell me the complete truth about her so-called kidnapping, I wasn't going to see her anymore."
"I'm sure that's what scared her," I analyzed. "She thought she'd never see you again."
*'This woman's obsession with him is disturbing,'* Lyra commented in my mind.
"She should have thought about that before lying to me in that way," Ezra shot back, his eyes flashing gold again.
"Ezra." I sighed lightly. "When you go see her, if you go in there with that expression, she might try to kill herself again."
His eyes widened in alarm, and I nodded grimly. "Yes, I'm serious."
Finally, he let out a heavy breath. "Okay. I'll try to calm down. But that doesn't mean I won't set her straight."
"You can do that another day, not today," I suggested. "I understand what she did was completely wrong, but give her a break. She needs it right now."
Ezra's hand found mine, his fingers gently stroking the back of my hand. "I'm only doing this because you're asking me to. I'm really angry with her right now."
"Your anger is justified," I said, lightly patting his hand that was wrapped around my left one. "But please try to stay calm."
A few minutes later, a doctor in an expensive white coat entered the VIP waiting area. Both Ezra and I jumped up from our seats, rushing toward him.
"Doctor, how is she?" Ezra's voice had regained some of its CEO composure.
"She's stable. She didn't lose much blood – we just need to stop the bleeding."
"That means she's okay, right?" I asked.
"Yes, Alpha," the doctor replied respectfully.
Both Ezra and I exhaled in relief.
*I don't like Lillian,* I reaffirmed to myself, *but death is never the solution, regardless.*
"Can I see her now?" Ezra asked urgently, a hint of anxiety creeping into his voice.
The doctor nodded calmly. "Of course. Please follow me."
As the doctor began leading the way through the hospital's upscale corridors, both Ezra and I fell into step behind him.
*I should probably let Ezra go alone,* I thought, *but curiosity is getting the better of me. I want to see Lillian – "the girl who was with Alpha Ezra before me."*
