Aurora’s P.O.V
I felt fingers under my chin, lifting my face up to meet his. “I’m sorry,” Caleb told me, his eyes gazing into mine with a mix of emotions I couldn’t really name. “I didn’t mean to upset you.”
“I know,” I told him, managing a half-hearted smile. “But what you told me is the truth…and I needed to hear that.”
Sighing, I took his hands in mine, realizing that I had been an utter fool all this time for believing what anyone else told me. “You’re my mate,” I said, feeling a weight in my chest that I needed to get out. “And I should’ve listened to you instead of believing anyone else. But I was stupid enough to fall into Mia’s trap and I’m sorry for that…sorry for the distance that I put between us.”
“Hey,” Caleb pulled me closer, holding me in his arms as I felt the warmth of his embrace, the familiar scent of his. “You’re not stupid. You had been thrust into the supernatural world in the blink of an eye and we’ve been info dumping on you things that we had known since our childhood. It’s a lot to take in, and when your entire world is being tilted out of proportion, it’s easy to believe someone who seems to make sense by playing into your insecurities.”
I felt my lips quiver. How did he understand me the way he did? To him…it all seemed so easy to explain, all the complex emotional turmoil’s that I had been through. But I wasn’t mad at him. I was happy that he knew what was going through my mind.
“I’m really sorry,” I said on a hoarse whisper, my face buried in his chest.
“No, I’m the one who should be sorry.” He said, weaving his fingers through my hair. “I didn’t want things to be so heavy. I wanted to spend some time with you to lighten up the mood, but I did the opposite. Let me make it up to you?”
I looked up at Caleb, blinking rapidly to clear my eyes of the accumulating moisture. “What do you mean?”
“Come with me.” He grinned suddenly. “I want to show you something.”
“Where?” I asked, wiping at my eyes, my face.
“That’s a surprise.” Caleb jumped off the bed and extended his hand towards me. “Come on.”
I didn’t hesitate to place my hand in his. I liked his attempt at making the mood lighter, I think we needed that. Because there was no need dwelling on the past and the future was yet uncertain. So I wanted to live in the here and now, and the only person that I wanted to live it with, was right beside me.

Caleb and I walked through the woods behind the pack house once again, but instead of taking the diversion that I knew would take us to the gazebo and the lotus pond, he took another direction instead, one that I hadn’t been on before.
“Where does this path lead?” I asked, following him as we moved past the tall cedar and the pine. The trees arched and twisted, the branches stretching like skeletons in the sky. The trees in this area seemed to be older than time itself, their towering canopy blocking out the light from the full moon. But even though the forest seemed to be imposing, intimidating, with Caleb’s hand firmly in mine, I didn’t feel scared at all.
“You’ll see…right about now.”
Suddenly, the forest gave way to the sandy beach, and the waters of the Blue Hill bay rolled to the shore, the sound of the waves crashing onto the sea a welcome diversion from the gloomy forest behind us.
“Wow…” I blinked at the sight in front of me. The wind blew back my short hair and the sea looked calmer than I had imagined it to be. Lazy waves crashed to the shore and behind it, were the vast waters that looked darker in the night, and the moonlight reflecting off of the surface provided a silver glow that looked almost ethereal.
“Gorgeous, isn’t it?”
“It is.” I nodded, unable to help but admire the scenery. But at that time, I didn’t notice Caleb’s hand slipping away from mine as he took a step back.
“But that’s only half the surprise.”
“Huh?” I turned around to face him at his words, but Caleb didn’t give me a chance to realize what was happening, nor did he give me any warning before a soft golden glow covered his entire body. And before I knew it, that light grew so bright that I had to cover my eyes to protect them.
I heard the sound of clothes ripping, bones snapping and each sound had me gritting my teeth. It sounded painful…was he hurting? But before I knew it, the light disappeared and the sounds stopped.
Removing my eyes, I gasped in both surprise and wonder as instead of Caleb, a wolf now stood in front of me, it’s black and grey fur blowing in the cool sea breeze.
Ripped clothing scattered all over the place, but that wasn’t my concern. I vaguely remembered Caleb’s transformation the first time when he had rescued me from my father’s goons. He had been a wolf then as well, but I had been too far gone, too injured to fully comprehend his transformation.
Now, I saw him in his full majestic glory and I couldn’t help but be stunned.
“Magic.” I whispered. It was all magic.
‘Do you want to touch my fur?’ The voice came as if inside my mind and once again that sense of déjà vie filled me. Caleb was able to communicate with me even in his wolf form, just like before.
Nodding, I weaved my fingers gently through his velvety soft fur, enjoying the feel of them on my fingertips. It was truly a magical moment; a one in a lifetime opportunity. Out of billions of people in this world, I had been chosen by a Goddess to be the mate for this magnificent creature.
Caleb came forward, bowing its large head to me, nudging at my belly. And I understood that this big bad wolf wanted me to scratch its ears.
Giggling softly to myself I did just as he wanted, I scratched his ears and his mizzle, and I heard him purr like a large cat, basking in the affection. I couldn’t believe that this was the same man I had just been talking to a moment ago. The contrast between man and the animal within were vast.
Suddenly, Caleb nudged me back with his muzzle, making me look at him in confusion, and before I knew it, he was snapping his jaw open to bite down at my top and pulling me forwards as he ran towards the water.
‘Come play with me.’ Came Caleb’s voice in my mind, and I went willingly, chasing the large wolf around playfully as we ran along the beach, the waves lapping at our feet.
Right at that moment, I felt closer to him than I had ever felt before and I understood that I had already fallen for this beautiful, incredible creature that was mine, just as I was his. And among the millions of people in this country, I was the only one chosen to be beside Caleb, as his mate, allowed to spend this magical moment with him.
