Aurora’s P.O.V

A shocked gasp escaped my lips as I found myself on the bed, with Caleb straddling me only a second after I had confessed that I wanted him to mark me.

I blinked up at him, watching him climb on top of me, his body still a furnace, but somehow, it was now bearable. I raised my arms, so he could come closer and he came willingly, letting me place my hands on his shoulders, drawing him closer.

“You smell so good.” He whispered, his voice sounding hoarser than before. “Are you sure you want this, Aurora? Because I can wait. I want to wait till you’re ready.”

“No…” I whispered, my voice trembling with the force of my emotions. “I want this now, Caleb. I don’t want to see you suffer anymore.”

“You know…these past few hours…I thought about everything you had been through all your life,” Caleb suddenly commented, making me still on the bed under him. “All the pain, the hardship…and to think how I had been one of the people who had made your life miserable…I deserve this, Aura…I deserve every bit of the pain that I inflicted upon you…”

I felt the breath whoosh out of my lungs as Caleb’s words settled over me.

Was this the sam man that everyone feared and respected? Was he the same guy who I had had a crush on for ages…?

I had once thought he was leagues above me…that I could never be with him even in my dreams…and yet, here he was, right in front of me, telling me that I not only belonged to him, but the thought of hurting me was painful to him as well.

With a twist of fate from the Gods above, I was now this man’s mate. I was his alone, tied together by the red threads of destiny. And I had been a fool to think that I could escape him…that I could leave so he could find happiness all over again…

“Caleb…if I had left…what would’ve really happened?” I asked, my voice hesitant. “Would I really have been allowed to walk away from everything? Would I really have been able to retain my memories?”

I was starting to realize that not everyone’s words could be trusted, and Mia and her cheerleading squad were one of the few people who specially had a vendetta against me. The only person who would be utterly truthful would be Caleb himself

Caleb looked hesitant, as if he was debating if he should tell me the whole truth, but then he sighed and nodded.

“It would’ve been the same outcome like the one that Mia told you about,” he sighed. “Once you’ve known about the existence of the supernatural, there is no going back to your old life, especially if you’re a mate. So if you had chosen to walk away…then your memories would’ve been erased. Because that is our law. A law that keeps both humans and the supernatural safe from one another.”

I nodded, understanding that I had been wrong all along.

“Then mark me,” I told him now, my voice barely above a whisper. “I want to help you…and…I want to be with you, Caleb.”

Caleb’s shoulders eased, as if a burden had finally lifted off his shoulders. He nodded his head, his eyes glistening in the dim light of the room, an almost ethereal amber glow to them that hadn’t been there before.

Reaching up, he cupped my cheek with one hand while the other supported his weight on top of me. “I’ll be gentle. I promise.” His voice was a bit hoarser than before, almost like it was an amalgamation of two voices.

I nodded, because I believed in him. I trusted him. And then I closed my eyes to prepare myself for what was to come next.

I felt his fingers lightly brush the right side of my neck, gently massaging the area where my vein was pulsing frantically, mirroring the erratic rhythm of my heart. I wasn’t afraid…I was nervous, of course, but not afraid.

And then I felt his lips on my neck as he placed the gentlest of kisses to my skin…followed by a graze of teeth.

I clutched onto his shoulders tightly with both hands, a sudden wave of panic coursing through my veins. I was tempted to wrap my legs around his waist, but I held off, thinking it would be too intimate too soon. I bit my lower lip to stop myself from panicking…but nothing could’ve prepared me for what came next.

Caleb bit down on my neck, right when there vein was pulsing, but instead of pain, I felt desire, hot and blinding, shoot through my blood, making me gasp out in shock. There wasn’t any pain, and even if there was, I didn’t feel it. All I felt was this blinding desire coursing through me, igniting a fire in my body that I didn’t think was possible.

The intensity of my emotions left me breathless, and in the darkness behind my eyelids, I saw something magical…golden threads.

They floated towards me like liquid gold, wrapping around me, around my mind and body, absorbing into my skin, and suddenly, I felt so many emotions all at once, a jumbled kaleidoscope of thoughts and colors. But there was a ‘knowing’ inside my heart that they weren’t mine…they belonged to Caleb…

We were now connected in ways that didn’t seem humanly possible, and yet, it felt…right. As if this was how it was supposed to be all along…

I finally opened my eyes and my gaze locked onto Caleb’s mesmerizing blue orbs. It felt like seeing him for the first time…like falling for him anew. I didn’t know what exactly was different, but something felt different, and I couldn’t really describe what it was in words.

I raised my arms and cupped his cheek. His eyes were glazed over, unfocused, and his breathing was ragged, but so was mine.

I don’t know what came over me, but the next moment, I wrapped my fingers around his nape and hauled him down for a kiss, my lips meeting him in a kiss that seared me right down to my core.
