Aurora’s P.O.V

When Caleb and I finally came back to the packhouse, it was well past midnight and we were both covered in sand, wet to our bones.

Caleb’s majestic fur now stuck to his body and with all the sand and dirt covered all over him…he looked no better than a wet dog in desperate need for a bath.

But that wasn’t the problem. It was finding Caroline standing in front of my room, in her jammies and her arms crossed over her chest as she tapped her foot on the floor, a murderous look on her face.

“Caroline…um…” I scratched the back of my neck, looking down at Caleb, who wore a smug expression on his face. Wait…could wolves even look smug?

“Oh, wipe that smirk off you bitch!” Caroline stomped her foot on the floor before moving forward to catch a hold of Caleb’s ear and twisting it hard, and I had the pleasure of hearing the big-bad wolf, whine like a baby. “A notice would’ve sufficed, Cal! But noooo! You had to keep me waiting here for half an hour! Is this what I get for helping you?”

Oh dear…Caroline was mad…and I felt guilty for having her stand here all this time while I was out having fun with Caleb.

“Care…I’m really sorry.” I told her, admitting my fault. “I should’ve told you we were going out. Please…don’t be mad at Caleb.”

“You’re not at fault, Aura,” Caroline snapped, her voice rough before she cleared her throat and adjusted her voice. “Caleb could’ve warned me with the mental link, something you don’t have. But he choose to be a bitch and keep me waiting! He knew I would be worried, but still didn’t inform me!”

Caleb’s wolf whine once again, and Caroline finally let him go on a sigh. “But I guess I can’t really be mad, can I? Bloody mated pairs! Go get to your room and shower!” And then she turned to me. “You too! You both look like delightful messes and you’re getting sand all over the carpet!”

“Right away.” I told her, and I think Caleb did something similar as he let out a huff, turned on his…paws…and walked back to the other end of the hallway while wagging his tail.

“Come on now,” Caroline pulled me inside my room once Caleb was out of sight and led me straight to the bathroom. “Take a nice hot shower. And then we can talk.”

“Thanks Care!” I told her before jumping right into it.

The shower felt blissful and no matter how much I had loved playing by the sea, the sand stuck to my body and it felt uncomfortable. Finally, after what felt like hours of scrubbing and washing, I was able to get all of it out of my hair and I exited the bathroom in my bathrobe, to find that Caroline had already gotten someone to clean up the sand from the floors and it was spotless once again.

“It’s really late, was it necessary to trouble someone to clean up now?” I asked as I came to the bed to find her setting up the hair dryer.

“It’s nothing to worry about.” Caroline gave me a smile as she patted the bed in front of her. “There are maids who work night shifts only since they know how messy wolves can be. And besides, having sand lying around the house is troublesome. Once it dries, it’ll scatter everywhere.”

“True.” I nodded as I sat on the edge of the bed. But I still felt bad that I had let the maid be troubled at this time of the night.

“So, how was your little date with Caleb?” Caroline asked as she blow-dried my hair. “Anything interesting happen?”

“What interesting?” I narrowed my eyes at her suggestive tone. “We went to the beach and Caleb showed me his wolf and we played around in the water.”

Suddenly, the room became exceptionally quiet, before Caroline burst out laughing, startling me.

I looked back at her with wide eyes. “What?” I asked, confused. “What did I say wrong?”

“Nothing.” She chuckled, wiping tears from the corner of her eyes. “It’s just that…’showed me his wolf’ and ‘played around’ can have very different meanings if you’re not using them carefully.”
