Claimed by My Bully Alpha Chapter 107

Aurora’s P.O.V

I froze, the world around me coming to a sudden halt as the words registered in my mind.

Dead? Did they really think…I was dead?

Caroline must have heard it too, because just like with Caleb before, I heard her let out a low growl, her lips pulled back over her teeth as her eyes began to glow an eerie amber.

“Caroline.” I immediately took her hand in mine, squeezing them for reassurance. “It’s not worth it.”

But apparently, the girl who had just spewed those malicious words, wasn’t alone.

“I know right!” Another voice chimed in, sounding exasperated. “I mean…she left already, for god’s sake! So why come back?”

“She gets scholarship from our school fees anyway! What a waste of space!”

I was tempted to turn back and give this bitch a piece of my mind, but I held my tongue. It really wasn’t my problem that ‘they’ had a problem with me. And besides, it’s not like they would say anything new that I hadn’t already heard.

If I was still the Aurora from a month ago, then these same words would have left me reeling, feeling like I was unworthy and stupid. But I was no longer that person, and I knew now that their mean words didn’t determine my worth.

“You think the rumors were true? About her being suspended after fucking the math teacher?”

“Didn’t the rumors go something like…she committed suicide after being suspended?” The second girl commented, her tone distraught. “But clearly, those rumors were false. Unless we’re seeing ghosts at the game.”

“I bet she’s here for Caleb! Didn’t she keep looking at him all the time in class?”

“Pathetic, right? As if Caleb would give her the time of day.”

This time, Caroline and I exchanged a glance, but instead of getting upset, we both burst out laughing.

“Oh my god, was I that obvious?” I spoke under my breath as I continued to laugh, clutching at my tummy.

“I don’t know,” Caroline sniggered, trying to hold in her laughter but failing miserably. “Honestly, I did notice but it was never that obvious unless you told me about it.”

“I thought so too.” I shrugged. “They must have been paying close attention to me if they had seen through it. I guess, for someone they disliked so much, they sure took their time studying my every mood.”

“Well, said.” Caroline nodded. “I would think you were a lot more famous than you thought you were, you just didn’t notice. After all, you need to be at the top to be the ‘topic’ of discussion.”

That earned us both another round of sniggers until someone else decided to speak up. At this point, Caroline and I were just enjoying some pre-match gossip to kill the time and we were both loving it.

“Guys! Stop!” A third voice spoke up, this time a guy. “Didn’t you see what happened before the match? There were a few people in the parking lot and they said something that would blow their mind.”

“Now it’s getting interesting,” Caroline whispered, leaning in.

“You think they saw us?” I asked. “Caleb and me?”

But before Caroline could answer, the guy continued enthusiastically. “I heard she arrived in Caleb’s car tonight! He was even clinging to her!”

“NO FUCKING WAY!” Two voices spoke at once.

“I guess that answers your question,” Caroline smirked.

However, my attention snapped towards the field the next instant as the crowd burst into cheers. The players were now lined up in front of each other and Caleb was right at the centre of the round circle drawn on the grass, standing opposite Damien, with the referee standing in the middle with the ball.

The whistle blew, the ball was thrown in the air and it was snatched right out of the air as Caleb jumped up to catch it. And the match was on.

*

To say the match was intense would be an understatement. The tension rolled off of the field in waves, and I had no doubt in my mind that Damien’s team had plenty of wolves on their side, just as Caleb’s team did.

The shoves were brutal, the clash between two players could visibly shave the ground and the aggression was on the next level.

I really wished Riley could’ve seen this match. He would’ve loved to see it and maybe it would get him interested in football? So far, he was one of the quietest, most well-behaved children for his age. However, Riley wasn’t able to be here because he had an art test tomorrow at school and he had to sleep early, and Caleb’s mom had been kind enough to watch over him.

As Caleb and Dorian circled each other to get the ball, I could see their lips being pulled back over their teeth, their feral side showing through the mask of humanity they wore. But what I knew to be their werewolf nature might seem as simple aggression to other onlookers as they cheered for their favorite team.

The score remained tied at 4:4 and with only a few minutes remaining and I was very sure neither team wanted the last match of their senior year to end up in a tie. Both Caleb and Damien were drenched in sweat and still facing off each other the best they could. Damien seemed to be shadowing Caleb wherever he went and it was becoming impossibly difficult for Caleb to get past his defences and pass the ball to one of his teammates.

I saw Jade block a goal by the Ellsworth High quarterback and then the ball landed at Caleb’s feet, who immediately changed directions and began toeing the ball in the direction of the opposition’s net.

Damien started shadowing him once again but this time he was running beside Caleb, trying to take away the ball with brute force. But when that seemed almost impossible, he lifted his leg and tripped Caleb in such a way that Caleb went tumbling to the ground, hard.

Gasps sounded from all around me as I sprang to my feet. I desperately wanted to know if he was alright as I saw several of his teammates give concerned looks. From the corner of my eyes, I saw others stand up as well. Everyone on the bleachers could feel the tension coming off the field as the referee issued a warning whistle of some kind.

“Shit! That was a really bad kick! I hope he didn’t snap a tendon.”

The words were concerning, but Caroline shook her head. “It’s not that easy to hurt us, especially Caleb.”

I wanted to believe her, but when I saw Caleb get back up with a slight limp to his left leg, I couldn’t help but worry.

However, I didn’t get much time to dwell on any of that, because it was the last five minutes of the game and the entire fate of this match lied in these last five minutes.

Damien took the ball, but at the same time, Caleb began shadowing him. The two of them were head to head and it looked like Damien just might be able to get past Caleb and score a goal. That was when Caleb did the exact same thing that Damien had done to him, he shoved him aside and made a sudden twisting motion, using his legs to snatch the ball from Damien as Damien fell back onto the grass.

And then Caleb dashed forward, crossing Damien’s defences easily as he headed straight for the net. But when the goalkeeper turned his body towards Caleb, ready to block his goal, Caleb kicked the ball to another one of his teammate’s last minute…and he hit the ball home.

The score changed to 5:4 in the last two seconds, and the entire stadium erupted into cheers, including myself and Caroline as we jumped up from our seats and hugged each other.

We had won! Caleb and his team had won the match!

But before we could properly celebrate the victory, Damien got off the floor…and yanked Caleb back with a hand on his shoulder, before landing a hard punch to his jaw that sent him flying to the ground.
