Claimed by My Bully Alpha Chapter 267

Aurora’s P.O.V

Shane’s eyes widened in pure disbelief, the light in them flickering with cautious hope as my words settled in. “You… You really mean that?” His voice carried the weight of uncertainty, almost as if he feared this was some cruel trick his mind was playing on him. His hands clenched into tight fists at his sides, and for a brief moment, I saw the way his shoulders tensed—waiting, maybe even bracing for me to take it all back.

I exhaled softly, feeling the tension in the air stretch between us like an invisible thread, fragile and thin. With a slow, deliberate nod, I confirmed his hopes. “Yes, Shane. I forgive you.” The words felt foreign on my tongue, not because they weren’t true, but because they carried a weight that I wasn’t entirely sure I was ready to hold.

Relief flooded his features almost instantly. A small, shaky breath left his lips, and he ran a hand through his already disheveled hair, letting out a quiet laugh, the kind that teetered between disbelief and overwhelming gratitude. “God, Aurora… You don’t know what that means to me,” he murmured, his voice thick with emotion.

I watched him carefully, my heart a complicated mess of emotions. He thought this was some grand reconciliation, that things could somehow be stitched back together with a simple thread of forgiveness. And maybe in some stories, that was enough. But this wasn’t one of them. My expression hardened slightly, and I saw the way his joy faltered at the shift.

“But just because I’ve forgiven you,” I started, my tone steady, unwavering, “doesn’t mean I’ve forgotten.” I saw the way his breath hitched, the way his smile wavered before fading completely. His brows drew together, confusion flickering in his eyes.

“What… What do you mean?” he asked, his voice quieter now, more cautious.

I let out a slow, measured breath. “I mean that I remember everything, Shane. Every single thing. I remember the hurt, the betrayal, the way you walked away like none of it ever mattered.” I could feel my pulse hammering in my ears, but I kept my voice even. “I’m not holding onto resentment. I’m not looking for revenge. But that doesn’t mean I want you back in my life, either.”

A tense silence stretched between us. His throat bobbed as he swallowed hard, his hands flexing at his sides. “Aurora, I—”

“No,” I cut him off, shaking my head. “You don’t get to explain, not anymore. I’ve made my peace with it, and I’m moving forward. But that future? It doesn’t involve you.” I held his gaze, making sure he understood every word, every boundary I was setting. “So it would be better if we just stayed out of each other’s way.”

His eyes searched mine, like he was desperately trying to find some sign that I didn’t mean it, that there was still something left for him to hold onto. But there wasn’t. And the realization hit him like a blow to the chest.

For a long moment, he said nothing. Then, to my surprise, a slow, almost rueful smile tugged at the corners of his lips. “You know,” he murmured, shaking his head slightly, “I always admired that about you.”

I blinked, thrown off by the sudden shift. “Admired what?”

His gaze softened, but there was something sad beneath it, something resigned. “The way you never sugarcoat anything,” he admitted. “You say exactly what you mean, no matter how much it hurts.” He exhaled deeply, rubbing the back of his neck. “It’s brutal, but it’s honest. And honestly? I’d rather have the truth, even if it cuts, than some pretty lie.”

I studied him for a moment, trying to decide if his words carried sincerity or just another attempt to sway me. But in the end, it didn’t really matter. Because no matter how much he admired it, no matter how much he might have changed, my decision remained the same.

“You know,” he started, his fingers rubbing anxiously over his knuckles, “it was actually one of the things…that I always envied about you as well.” His voice was rough, edged with something bitter yet vulnerable. “Your resilience. Your spirit. No matter how bad things got, you never let it turn you into—” He exhaled sharply, his hands balling into fists before he unclenched them just as quickly. “You never let it consume you the way it did to me.”

I swallowed hard, my throat tightening as I met his gaze. There was pain in his eyes, the kind that had settled there for years, becoming a part of him like a scar that never faded. “Shane…” I whispered, unsure of what to say, but he shook his head, as if to silence whatever words I might offer.

“We both came from the same hell,” he continued, his jaw tightening, “but you... you never let it make you cruel. You never turned your anger on anyone else.” He laughed, but it wasn’t humor—it was hollow, bitter. “Meanwhile, I became everything I hated. I lashed out, hurt people, pushed everyone away because I didn’t know what else to do with the rage. But you—” His voice cracked, and he dragged a hand down his face. “You never did that. And I hated you for it.”
