Logan Chapter 101
-Emory-
After Logan and I had our… break last night, I wake up feeling better than I have in what feels like a very long time. It’s hard to believe that everything has happened in the span of just a few months- that I’m living out my New Year’s resolutions and that they’re not even on my scale of importance right now. I feel mentally clear for the first time since Cora’s article came out. I can finally think properly without the chattering panic in the back of my head. I know we’ll find a solution soon, if not today. Turns out, I just need a few hard orgasms and a heavy sleep if I’m looking for a spa day.
I feel Logan’s amusement at the last thought. Just think how much money we’ll save! I roll my eyes as I get dressed. We’re dropping my family off at the airport today. As much as I’ve missed them and felt safer having them close, it’ll be nice to separate Bryan’s temper from Logan’s temper. Somehow, anytime I’m away from them for a while, I forget how overbearing Bryan and Dad can be when they pull together to try to rule my life.
“I’ll be the only one ruling your life now, little mate.” Logan says, clearly excited to stop fighting with Bryan as well.
I scoff. “Better think again mate. I’ll be ruling my own life. I’m just allowing you to be in it.” He chuckles in a way that sends hot shivers down my spine and grabs a handful of my ass.
“So feisty this morning! We’ll have to put a pin in this little dominance game, baby. We’ll come back to it tonight.” I’m glad all over again that my family can’t smell my arousal as we walk into breakfast with them. I shoot Logan a dirty look for winding me up anyway and sit down to eat my waffles. The chefs both smirk at me when they bring our “usual” out and set them down, but no one other than Logan seems to notice. Thankfully.
“Is everyone packed? Are the flights and everything taken care of, Bry?” We all know that no one else in my family would be able or willing to wrangle the travel plans. Hopefully any lingering offense from yesterday’s battle royale has dissipated.
“Yeah, we’re all good. We don’t even have a layover this time, which is nice. Elliana “Daddy’s Money” Davis, here, had to buy another suitcase for all the crap she bought on Fifth Avenue, but otherwise we’re good to go without a hitch.” I knew Dad had created a monster, spoiling her like he does, but it’s still surprising to see it in action sometimes.
Elliana looks up when she hears her name. “Hey! I paid for most of it with my own money! I have a job, idiot.” Point made, she goes back to picking at the fruit on her plate. Logan steals a piece of pineapple and sets it on my plate with a flat look my way. Fruit is just as sweet as waffles, so I just shake my head and eat it.
Bryan isn’t done with Elliana, though. “How much would you have had if you actually paid any of your bills like we all had to?” She huffs and shouts back at him, and paradoxically, I find myself relaxing as my family settles back into their norm.
When Mama jumps in to tell them to quit their bickering, I get a hit of nostalgia so strong that my eyes tear up. This was what I needed when they first got here. They accept Logan and I, and no matter what happens, we’ll always come back to being a family. Logan plays with a bit of my hair, feeling nostalgic himself. His childhood was obviously very different from mine, but something about siblings fighting is just universal.
After such a normal breakfast, I’m able to have peace about them loading up with Landon and heading to the flight back home. Once Logan and I get done waving them off from the front porch, we go back inside. Since we’re still technically on our “honeymoon” we have a few days to buckle down and brainstorm about this whole media situation.
I start thinking aloud. I know he can hear me either way, but I feel like I can order my thoughts better if I speak them. Logan watches me pace with a small smile on his face. “Okay, so we had two main problems. The first was your shiny new reputation as an abuser, and the second was the werewolf speculation. The first has been handled by us getting “married”, mostly. If I wasn’t okay with love bites then why would I marry you? I wouldn’t unless I was a gold digger and then who cares what happens as the result of my choices? So the only problem left is the main problem, anyway. The shifters have to stay secret. How do we get the shifters out of the news?”
“Yeah, I’d say that’s the priority right now. Cora’s got a libel suit working- the lawyers are handling that pretty well. She’s got a public defender, which is supposed to bode well for us. The other legitimate news outlets won’t touch it now for fear of the same happening to them.” Logan sits down and sprawls back into the chair. I end up pacing in circles around him.
“Okay. So. Our main problem is the conspiracy theorists then, right? They’re not usually very reliable sources, and they only have the footage that Cora took of the kids. Pups?” I look his way, aware that using the wrong word there could be a problem later.
Logan waves away my concern. “Either, depending on the form they're in at the time. Or if they’re acting up or not. Focus on the important thing right now.”
“Got it. So. Conspiracy theorists. They have a lot of footage of us going about our normal lives, and one video of us in the middle of a strange orgy with maybe some howling in Central Park and me in a wedding dress. How do we dilute the one weird thing in everyone’s minds?” I start to feel a sinking in my stomach as I realize what we have to do.
Logan starts to smile, thinking how similar this solution is to the Alpha Alliance’s first solution for Cora’s article. “We have to do more of the same kind of weirdness.”
I can already feel my heart palpitating at the thought. “We’re going to have to get caught fucking in public.”
