Logan Chapter 38

I wake up refreshed and ready for my day, as always. I took Emory out for a celebration last night. She was celebrating ‘feeling well enough’ for a rebound guy and I was celebrating the actual gold mine I caught on camera at the Úlfur residence yesterday. Seeing as the man I brought back did his walk of shame before I woke, I pulled out my camera again. I keep one in my purse just in case something newsworthy happens and I need something better than my phone camera. And did I ever spot something newsworthy.

After our useless and bland interview yesterday, Landon received a call and walked me to the front door before he turned and went back inside to continue his conversation. As I was unsupervised, I took the opportunity to investigate the grounds around the home. There were a lot of the regular things- trees, a vegetable garden, a walking path, but then I heard howls nearby. They sounded small, like wolf puppies, but I’ve never heard of a wolf this far into the city. I would’ve read it in the news if one had broken out of the zoo, so I kept my head on the swivel, if only for safety’s sake.

Standing absolutely still and apparently downwind, I spotted four wolf pups of different colors running and tumbling toward the main house. I pulled out my camera to get some action shots, visualizing headlines about wolves running wild so close to Central Park, when they started to twitch and stretch strangely. I hit record for a video of the strange behavior- rabies?- and I’m lucky I did. I watched with my own goddamn eyes as the four wolf pups turned into human children. They looked to be five to eight years old, and their coloring matched the coloring of the wolves. Holy shit.

Even looking back at the recording a day later, I still can’t believe it. Surely we can’t have werewolves in the middle of New York? Does anyone know about this? Are they a government experiment? That would explain the security. Of course, the security could also be explained with complete secrecy. It also explained why nobody would talk to me about Logan. Some kind of pack loyalty was there, as well as their need to keep each other's secret. I wonder if all the people in that community are werewolves, or just those kids. Maybe they’re in some kind of breeding program…? But wait.

Emory said that Logan claimed to be a werewolf after their night together. So they must all be werewolves! Surely his brother is one too, they look so much alike that I can’t imagine they have much difference between them, genetically. So I talked to a werewolf yesterday before I saw wolf… pups… shift into children. What the hell is their base form? Human or animal? Landon spoke English well enough, and Logan owns a whole damn company. Maybe the wolf part of them is just a little sprinkle of… extra?

This realization made me wonder about everyone else around Logan. If his brother was also a werewolf, and the kids that live in that community on their property, then probably Nanette was one, right? Are his friends- his CEO friends - also werewolves? That would give them something in common, for sure. The only thing I could find linking them before now was the amount of money they enjoy.

Once I finally get my head fully wrapped around the implications of what I saw, I have some decisions to make. The title writes itself- ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ - done. But how do I prove that this video wasn’t tampered with? And how do I protect myself if it is a government project that I’m trying to play whistleblower on? My big break isn’t going to come from some outlandish gossip rag nonsense that nobody believes. I need proof, hard facts. I have the recordings of Emory talking about their date, at least. That’s in the bag. Maybe I can… play it off as special effects that Logan has gotten the kids in on in his own backyard? That’s a good start for a physically abusive man manipulating children as well.

The conservative approach might be the best way to go. Then, the people who are interested can go and see the truth for themselves. I’ll let them be the crazy ones, until there’s enough of us that know. Enough people spouting the truth will dismantle any effort to silence them. I just need numbers on my side.

I’m practically rubbing my hands together in excitement as I plan the article out in my head. I have to get ready- this could be a full day of work. I meal prep everything I’ll eat today and fill three separate tumblers with exactly sixty-four ounces of water. I set all of those in an array around myself, and the meals in lunch boxes on the floor beside my writing station. After I have that and my ergonomic accessories settled, I put my earbuds in with movie soundtracks to stimulate my brain without distracting it and cover any distracting outside noises. Finally ready, I get writing. I can almost smell my big break on the horizon.
