Logan Chapter 104

I have to admit that I’m nervous as all get-out. Logan said that Ollie’s had this charity event planned for months now, that he throws one around this time every year for a local women’s shelter, but we’ve been so busy that he hasn’t thought to tell me about it. Of course all of the guys go to each other’s events. It’s what friends do, after all. They donate insane amounts of money to their friends’ favorite charities, like anyone would. Everybody’s done it. *Take a breath, baby. It’s mostly about networking, anyway. You don’t even have to see the check if you don’t want to.* I can tell Logan is trying to help me calm down, but honestly, he just makes it worse. I know the amounts he’s been tossing around in his head, and the fact that he has that in the bank and doesn’t even think of giving it away as the main part of the night is frankly intimidating.

I take a couple of deep breaths, smoothing non-existent wrinkles out of the skirt of my dress. Logan, of course, pulled some strings to get me appropriate evening wear at warp speed. This was apparently part of his surprise- he chose everything, after snooping on my sizes, and arranged to have it delivered and set me up with a spa day besides. I wish he would’ve told me this morning what I was in for, before letting me have the whole spa day without knowing the purpose behind it. *You never would have relaxed if I told you this morning. Better to have you feeling gorgeous and carefree before I gave you the pretty dress to wear. Did I do well on the heels? We have a little time for a quick shopping trip, if not.

He knows very well that he got the perfect heels for the dress I’m wearing. They’re Rania pumps in mocha and they might just be my new favorite pair. The dress itself is a rich, buttery, metallic bronze. It’s… a lot more revealing than I would have chosen for myself. The skirt is straight from my waist to the floor, and not the problem. The problem is that the pieces that cover my breasts are basically triangles with the points coming together just above my belly button, which then wrap around to meet again on my shoulder blades with arm holes cut out of the centers. My sides and back aren’t places I would usually expose in public, and I’m not sure how confident I am that I won’t have a wardrobe malfunction. This seems like the kind of dress that people make for someone much smaller than me, in more than one way.

Logan gently smacks my hand away as I adjust the top yet again to try and cover my boobs a little more. “You’re not going to shift those- I know you taped it to you. Am I going to be able to un-tape you later without hurting you?” He’s full of amusement as he asks me. Nobody’s asking him to run around half naked at an exclusive event. “Emory, baby. Trust me. I’ve been to probably hundreds of these kinds of parties. You’re practically modest compared to what the single women tend to wear at these. I actually was torn between this dress and what amounted to an expensive sack so that I would be the only one to see all those curves, but you’ll fit in better with this. I can’t wait to officially show you off for the first time. I’m proud that I’ll be the only man to have you on my arm at an event like this.”

That makes me feel a little better. I do feel especially sexy with my professionally styled updo, professionally done makeup, and newly smooth everything. I blush at that last thought, while Logan just chuckles again. “The spa day was amazing, and I guess if the cost is strutting around a supposedly boring charity event then I can’t be too mad at it being sprung on me.” I give Logan a healthy dose of side-eye. “But don’t make a habit of this, mister. You’re only forgiven because you had good intentions and didn’t know better. Now you do.”

Logan gives me a boyish smile. “Would pretty jewelry fix it?” He holds up a long, flat box. I had completely forgotten jewelry. I turn so he can work the clasp of what must be a necklace. “Here, I won’t be able to do earrings for you.” He hands me a set of topaz drop earrings, fairly understated with everything considered. Then he lifts a gold necklace over my head and drapes it just above my collarbone as he clasps it behind me. I adjust the chain that falls straight from the middle of the chain to another topaz that rests just above the line of my cleavage.

“This is gorgeous, Logan, but entirely too much. How did you even choose everything without me knowing about it?” Logan eyes the way the necklace draws attention to my cleavage before he redoes the clasp to make the chain around my neck sit a little higher. I guess it helps, but not much.

“Honestly, I tried not to think about it too much until I knew you were busy. I felt much better about all of it before I thought of everyone else seeing you like this. We might need to stay in tonight…” He sweeps his hands from the back of my neck, down to my arms, until he can weave his hands in mine to hold me still while he just… looks at me.

“I thought you said you guys always went to each other’s events? We can’t skip out on supporting Ollie. Plus, what about that check you were planning to write? The shelter will be so much better for it.” Logan drops his forehead to my shoulder with a dramatic groan.

“Ugh, fine, fine! We really should go. It would be a dick move to bow out at the last minute like this. I’ll just have to find a quiet spot while we’re there to show you just how much I love this dress on you.” He finishes this alarming statement with a pat to my butt before pulling me out the door, where Silverson is waiting beside a limo.

I think I’ve only seen the first part of Logan’s plot, and if the rest is what I’m thinking, I just might have a panic attack. Logan pretends not to hear what I’m thinking as he greets Silverson, but I knew he was up to something. Damn, damn, damn.
