Logan Chapter 110

-Logan-

I purposefully didn’t think about my issues while Emory dealt with her brother. She had enough on her mind with that idiot. Plus, I can handle this on my own. I wait for Emory to find something else to do and distract herself with before I read through the email from Anna again. I’m technically still on my honeymoon through the end of the week, but I’ve spent a little time every day going through my inbox and telling her which way to go on the high priority issues. This email sat alone in my inbox this morning, waiting for me like a bloated spider in the middle of its web.

Subject: Morality Clause*

*Logan,

*Attached is a list of clients and investors both that have called and threatened to break their contracts due to your alleged breach of the morality clause. They claim that you were documented online in compromising positions with Emory not once but multiple times. Most seem to fear that they could be found guilty by association and would like to cut ties entirely. I have them listed by size of contract, impact on the company if they were to actually leave, and after that by how serious they seemed about following through. Please advise.

I take a couple of deep breaths as I tamp down the rage that is my first reaction. I can see Anna’s continuing disapproval of Emory in the subtext of her email, subtle though it is. Anna’s a professional, through and through, but I know she doesn’t understand my relationship with my mate. How could she? I really shouldn’t blame her for her attitude about it, but it’s hard not to when my wolf is howling in the back of my head to protect and possess. I consider my reply at length before I write it, thinking I might as well give her a short script to mollify these people with.

*Anna,

*Please inform any who have concerns that I was recorded in private moments without my permission, and that my personal life with my wife is no one’s business but my own. If they would like to blame me for having my privacy violated, they are free to claim time on my calendar next week, after my honeymoon with my wife is over. Please block off as many thirty-minute slots as are required to address these concerns about this violation of my private moments with my wife as necessary.

I may have been a little more snarky than the situation warranted, looking back on the email after I hit send. I know Emory wouldn’t approve. But Anna should know that nothing she has to say is going to change my relationship with my little rose, and that anyone who objects to what we’re doing to ensure the safety of my entire race can take a flying leap. They’ll never understand the necessity of our getting caught, but they’ll damn well accept the fact that I have a right to my mate in whatever privacy we can carve out. I will not be kept from her, and if someone decides to barge in and record, that’s on them. We haven’t technically given permission to anyone to record or observe us, and it’s sickening that dozens of people associated with my company would blame us as victims.

We may technically have arranged to be caught the second time and possibly a couple more times upcoming, but they have no way of knowing that. As far as they can tell, they’re blaming me for having sex with my wife and having our privacy violated by an outside party. I’m not sure I want to do business with people like that, anyway.

I suppose one way to leave the limelight is to let the exodus happen and quietly release my business. I have more money than one man could ever need, already, and it would be nice to move more of my focus closer to home. It was one thing to lead a pack and a corporation both when I was a single man with little need for sleep, but now that I have a mate and will eventually want children, I find myself thinking I might be better off with more time. It’s the one resource we can’t get back, after all. I’ll have to run the idea by Emory and the guys, see what they all think. It might take some pondering to come up with a way to introduce the topic without freaking Emory out or making her think it’s her fault. Really, if we want to blame anyone it would be Landon.

I chuckle to myself at the thought of blaming Landon for the entirety of the mess we’re in right now, just because he had the misfortune of talking to Cora one time. I know he already feels bad about it, so I’ll have to wait until everything blows over before I make jokes. I wonder if he’s done “setting up” for his vacation? He told me he was going to take a week in our grandfather’s old fishing cabin upstate, so I have no idea what he would need to set up. He could get groceries delivered, and the cabin itself didn’t need any renovations, last I checked. Maybe he did something ridiculous like put in a dirt bike track next to the lake so he can tool around on it. That sounds like something he would do, honestly. I’ll let him surprise me with the footage of whatever idiot pastime he comes up with. It’ll be good for entertainment, at least.
