Logan Chapter 47

-Logan-

I have officially done all I can about the press nightmare. There is a careful balance to walk- we can only just barely allude to the werewolf accusation or we risk lending it credit. The more we pay attention to it, the more everyone else will, as well. We’ve decided to focus on the abuse accusations against me by having Emory come out with a sanitized version of the true story. She doesn’t think she’ll ever be able to work for me again, which is another problem off my plate. As far as I’m concerned, she’ll be busy enough as my Luna that any other job will be unmanageable.

I’m sure Emory and I will have an argument about it later, but her talents for design and attention to detail will make her a great Luna. She has the interpersonal skills that it seems I’ve been lacking this whole time. I knew she was perfectly suited to me, but I’m just now realizing that she’s perfectly suited to my pack as well. Most of the families are pretty self sufficient, and we operate as more of a small town with me as mayor than as an extended family. Everyone takes care of their own lives and livelihoods and I just take care of the pack overall- the lands, the community events, and any high level arguments that can’t be solved among the injured parties. I also make sure that no one slips through the cracks and that the pack as a whole is well-financed.

There might be some drama where our mating blew up so spectacularly, and I do have a couple of ex-girlfriends that will be angry at the perceived drop in their status among the pack, but that will all smooth over soon enough. They’ll recognize that no one can fight the bonds that fated mates have and they’ll back off soon enough. I’m mostly worried about her family accepting me, and whether or not we should tell them the truth. After all of this, I’m leaning toward yes. I look to Emory to see her playing with her seat belt, apparently just as lost in her thoughts as I was in mine.

“Penny for your thoughts, Little Rose?” She jolts like she forgot I was here.

“Oh, I was just thinking about your… pack, and how introductions would go. I have to admit I’m more comfortable meeting Landon than everyone else. I’d like to see Nanette again, now that I think about it. Do you think she’d cook me up some comfort food?” I can tell she’s working herself up into an anxious mess. I try to reassure her.

“You’ll meet Landon right off- he’s been bugging me for a vacation to make up for having to pull double duty for a month. I’m thinking everyone will give us a little privacy until the full moon, though. You won’t have to worry about meeting everyone at once until then. I’m sure people will swing by a couple at a time for the next week or so, to give you a chance to wade in.”

“What’s on the full moon? Do you all have to shift then? Oh hell, what will I do while y’all are running around all furry?” That didn’t help as much as I had hoped.

I squeeze her closer to me so she knows I have her. “The full moon is our mating ceremony. From what little research the guys and Landon were able to do with the elder members of our packs, this itching need to be in the same room will calm down a bit after that. Then we can live our lives and ease into the rest of it if need be.” There, that should make it better. Give her a light at the end of the tunnel- at least a chance for her to breathe in the near future. “I hate that things turned out as they have, love. I wanted to take my time with you, move at your pace. My wolf had other ideas, apparently. I’m sorry for all of it.”

Emory pats my thigh. “And I’ve decided I just might forgive you someday. You have a lot to make up to me before then, though.” I guess I’ll take it as a good sign that she’s being playful about it.

“Anything you need. I’m yours, Little Rose, just as much as you’re mine.” Her full lips pull to the left in a half grin, and her smile is gorgeous enough to make me catch my breath just as much as her nails digging into my thigh do.

“What I need, Logan, is for you to never forget that I am my own. I belong to me, and I’m choosing to share with you. Got it?” My wolf growls in my chest possessively, but I deserved that.

“Well. Even then, I am still yours.”
