Fell In Love With My Roomy Chapter 116

I hear a knock on Kent's bedroom door at his end, and he yells for the person to come in. I'm puzzled when I see Abby entering; those two don't usually hang out. Kent also appears confused.

"Sorry to bother you, Kent. Kyle mentioned you took my intro to business course in your first year, and I was wondering if you still had your notes?" she asks, and he clears his throat.

"They're on my laptop," he tells her, and she nods, her gaze drifting toward me. I push the dinosaur out of the frame. Her face transforms, and her eyes widen as she walks up to what seems to be Kent's desk.

"Is that Juls?" she exclaims.

"Hey, Abby," I say, feeling a bit shy, and she nearly has a heart attack on the other end.

"Why are you and Kent FaceTiming? You've been too busy to call me more than once a week!" she says, looking perplexed. "Kent, I thought you were calling home every night. You said there was a family emergency, and... What's going on?"

"Calm down," Kent urges, noticing her increasing agitation. "Juls and I are..."

"We're together," I respond calmly. "Kent calls me every night so we can catch up."

"You're together?!" she exclaims, and I snort a little. "Since when?"

"Right before the break," Kent says, even though it's not true. She'll hopefully calm down a bit if she doesn't know how long this has really been going on.

"So my words of wisdom guided you toward the light, Juls?" she asks, sounding excited. Kent looks intrigued but doesn't interrupt.

"This is incredible! I'm so proud of you!" she adds, giving Kent an excited hug. He just stiffens up like a board; Kent wasn't a hugger, and I'm willing to bet they've never hugged before now.

"You're not upset?" I ask, and she shakes her head.

"Of course not. I would have liked to know sooner, but I understand it takes some time," she smiles. "Do Kyle and Mark know?"

"Yeah, and they're not too thrilled about it," Kent mumbles, and she smiles.

"Those two are so stupid sometimes," she sighs. "I'll do my best to help."

"No thanks," Kent snorts. "It can't get worse than it already is."

"Well, I'm going to. I think it would make a huge difference, and if you knew how long Juls has liked you..."

"Abby, I'm still on the phone!" I insist, and she laughs a bit.

"Fine, fine," she sighs, waving her hands.

"Don't tell anyone else," Kent warns, and she nods.

"I swear, no one else will know," she assures us. "I don't know how you did it, Juls; the man has never come around for anyone before."

"Abby, as much fun as this is, I'd like to finish my chat with Juls before she passes out. Go start on your crusade to get Mark on board," he says, and she shrugs.

"I don't know how you put up with that," she says, looking at me, and I roll my eyes.

"He treats me a bit differently than you," I remind her, and she smiles.

"This is so cute," she whispers, and Kent rolls his eyes. "Well, sorry for interrupting your date night. I still want those notes, Kent."

"I'll find them by tomorrow," he says, waving her off.

"Bye, Juls! I miss you," she says, and I wave.

"Miss you too!" I call, and she exits the room, leaving us in peace.

"She's intense," he mumbles, running a hand over his face.

"She's on our side, don't be such a stick in the mud," I remind him, and he sighs.

"So... how long have you liked me, Juls?" he teases, and I roll my eyes.

"You know I've liked you for a long time," I defend, rolling over in bed. "Let's drop it; I'm too tired to defend myself."

"Fine," he sighs. "What are your plans this weekend?" he asks instead, and I smile.

He always checks; he wants to know if I'll have free time to call him or when we can chat. It lets me know that this distance is just as hard on him as it is on me.

"There's a social event for the Early Modern and History departments on Saturday. It sounds awful and incredibly awkward because I'm not a student here, but I'm going to go," I mumble, chewing the inside of my cheek.

"Is there food?"

"You bet your ass there's food," I tell him, and he chuckles. "It's the only reason I'm going."

"I think it would be good, network a little," he shrugs, and I nod, knowing he's right. "I know someone's bound to be interested in your stuff."

"Think so?"

"I know so," he answers.

I stare at him for a few seconds, feeling my body genuinely tire the longer I'm on the phone. Kent knows he doesn't get me for very long most nights; I always crash and burn early. It's not just him I miss; it's my bed, feeling comfortable, happy. He feels like home, and looking at him so often hurts in the best way possible.

"What's up? You're thinking again, I can tell," he insists, and I sigh.

"Joke's on you, I'm just tired," I whisper, and he smirks.

"You're lying."

"You know me, Kent. I've always got something on my mind," I remind him, fiddling with the hem of my t-shirt nervously. "I want us to work," I admit quietly, feeling bad for saying it.

He's silent for a moment, taking it in, and I sigh. "We will," he shrugs, and I chew the inside of my cheek.

"We're only happy for short periods; when things get real for us, they get complicated... I just don't want this to be too much," I admit, and he sighs.

"Why do you always do that?" he asks, shaking his head. "You doubt everything every single time things start to go well, why?"

"Because... I can't plan it," I mumble, chewing the inside of my cheek. "I didn't plan any of this; I didn't plan to be with you. I'm a planner, Kent, and..."

"Juls," he says, shaking his head. "I didn't plan this either, not one bit of it. But I know the way I feel about you. You can't plan our relationship; that's not how it works."

"I know, but that's why I'm stressed," I mumble.

"I think you're tired, sweetheart," he sighs, shaking his head. "You focus on planning your school stuff, I'll hold down our fort. Stop obsessing over things you can't control."

"You can't make me," I sigh, shuffling down into my uncomfortable dorm bed, and he cracks a weak smile.

"I've made mistakes, Juls," he whispers. "I know it's asking a lot, but I want you to trust that I can handle this."

"But..."

"I can," he cuts in, and I sigh, too tired to fight him. "I'm done letting you down and being too afraid to step up. You're worth it." My eyes go blurry with the start of tears, and he grins. "Go to bed, Juls."

"I'll try," I whisper, trying to believe his words. Kent's promised me lots before, but he doesn't follow through often. I hope he genuinely means what he's telling me.
