Fell In Love With My Roomy Chapter 90

The rest of our afternoon in bed goes really well. He shares a bit about his childhood and proudly shows me his trophies and awards, which weren't all for football. Some were for academics, while others were for sports. He always went above and beyond.

He leaves me alone in the bathroom to get ready. I put in effort with my hair and makeup but didn't want to look too overdone. I was already nervous about the last thing with Kent. I wanted to stay true to myself. The bathroom was more my style than the hotel, with a large tub and a separate shower, giving off a farmhouse feel.

When I'm ready, I step outside to meet Kent, who's impeccably dressed. He looks sharp and dapper in his tuxedo, which fits him perfectly.

"You look gorgeous," he compliments me, and I grin. He's almost ready, just needing to change, so he waits for me.

"Thanks, honey, but that's your story," I tease, and he laughs, crossing his arms. "Go get dressed."

I smile and walk into the closet to change. Being a walk-in closet with a light, I feel safe changing here. I start with boob tape, which proves to be a bit challenging. Fortunately, I did some research before we left the hotel in the morning. After getting everything in place, I put on another pair of new, invisible underwear, and then I take my long dress off the hanger and put it on, zipping it up halfway, but I need assistance to finish.

Then I carefully slip into my heels and shuffle slowly to the door, clutching the front of my dress to my body.

"Kent," I call out, and he looks up from his phone when I hiss and slide open the door. "Could you help me finish zipping this up?"

He agrees, and I open the closet door fully, step out, and turn around. As he raises the zipper, I feel his hands on my shoulders and then his fingertips on my spine.

"There," he murmurs, brushing my hair off my neck and planting a soft kiss on my shoulder. He turns me around, takes a step back, and admires my entire outfit. The whole experience makes my head spin.

"Oh my goodness," he whispers, and my mouth feels dry. I can't help but shyly smile, my cheeks flushing. I walk over to the mirror on his dresser and gaze at myself. I don't feel like my usual self at all. Instead, I feel polished and put-together.

I see him walking up behind me with a serene expression. I hope he can guide me through this because he's incredibly good at staying composed while I'm a whirlwind of emotions.

"You look stunning," he says, and I nod, placing my hands on the dresser in front of me. When we look like this, it feels like we make sense. I genuinely like how I look tonight. I take a deep breath, feeling nervous, and he rests his hands on my waist, gently squeezing them. "Don't worry, it'll go well," he reassures, and I nod. "I'll always be there for you."

"Okay," I reply softly, and he leads me out of his room.

Though it's only a bit past five, I can already hear a lively party happening downstairs. It gives me the impression that we might be running late.

I take a deep breath as he escorts me to the main area of his parents' party. I can immediately sense thirty pairs of eyes on me, and the hushed whispers begin. Kent pulls me close, sending shivers of unease up my spine.

"They're not exactly known for their subtlety, so don't blame yourself," he says quietly.

He gets us both drinks; I have champagne, and he holds a dark beverage in a short glass.

"What's next?" I inquire.

"This part of the night is when we're supposed to socialize," he grumbles, "but we don't have to, and I don't want to."

"Kent!" A woman in her 60s exclaims as she claps her hands. While she might find 'older' rude, she's probably not even fifty. "Oh, no, I haven't seen you in years!" She strides over to him and envelops him in a tight hug.

"Hi, Aunt Millicent, it's good to see you," he says very softly.

"Who are you with?" I smile as she inquires about me.

"Hi, I'm Juls. It's nice to meet you," I say softly, and she shakes my hand gently, as though she's afraid to grip it too firmly. "Juls, you look lovely," she compliments me, and I smile in return. "My nephew has never been with a girl. How long have you been seeing each other?"

If she says "going steady," she's from a different time.

"Nearly one month," Kent responds. "I'm hoping for a few thousand more," he adds with a shrug, catching me by surprise. I didn't know he was that serious. I wanted him to be, but Kent never seemed to care much about anything.

"So sweet," Aunt Millicent beams. "So I won't keep you. Go talk to people about it. I'm sure a lot of people would love to hear about your new relationship." Kent nearly rolls his eyes as she offers encouragement, making me laugh. His aunt was clearly talking about him.

He chuckles as she moves on to talk to someone else. "I'm sure a lot of people would, but I think I'm fine with keeping our business hours," he whispers, and he reaches out for my hand once more, pulling me back to his side, where I feel safe.

"Oh my god!" I hear, and we both turn around as a group of five girls rushes into the room. "Kent! Your mom said you'd be home!" The one at the front of the group is quite insistent.

"Oh, darn," he groans. They're all dressed up with highlights in their hair. Most of them are blond, but one has light brunette hair. They're wearing bright, floor-length gowns, and their hair is styled elaborately.

"Hey!" The first girl says, "I'm going to hug you," and the second girl immediately steps back. "What? You can hug a friend from the past?" She looks back at him with her blue eyes.

"No, Raquel," he sighs and stands his ground. His hand tightens on my hip, as if he truly wants me to stay by his side.

He'd make a great boyfriend because he's fiercely loyal. I just hope that one day we can get there.

"What? So what?" She places her hands on her hips and questions him.

"This is my girlfriend, Juls," he asserts.

I try not to be intimidated and say, "Hi."

"Oh..." She halts and turns to her friends, who exchange knowing glances. "Okay, Juls, where are your parents?"

They don't own a house in the Hamptons, I reply.

"In New York, which school did you attend?"

"I...I didn't," I sigh and feel defeated before the conversation even starts. Kent was right, as he had met a hundred Pipers. "But right now, I'm at Brown, which is where I met Kent."

"That's...sweet," she sighs, putting on a fake smile and pressing her hand to her chest as she pouts. "In college, you have to enjoy the casual relationships."

"Juls is not a hookup, so pay attention," Kent responds swiftly, and I feel a bit more self-assured.

"Did Kent ever show you our coming-out pictures? Our society's debut?" She wonders. "We've been very close since childhood. Let me find them."

"I need to take Juls to see my mom, though. Hold onto your pictures," Kent says, pulling me away from the amazed Raquel.

"Also sleep with her?" I snarl, taking a sip from the last of my champagne in my glass.

"Juls," he sighs, and I simply shrug. "You know things used to be different for me, but I don't like her now, so please don't worry."

"Don't say 'relax,'" I retort. "I hate that word, and you know I'm not the type to just chill out." I'm surprised. I need to calm down. I didn't realize I was so jealous. He just stands next to me, and neither of us knows what to do.

"I know, sweetheart, that this bothers you," he whispers. "I don't love my past, and most of the time I don't even like who I am. But I like you. Please take a deep breath and try to forgive me. You don't have to like it, and I don't expect you to, but you need to know that what I've told you is true and that I've never told anyone else these things."

I look at him, and he looks desperate, sad. I believe him because he wasn't always honest and open, but I know he means it.

"Okay," I mumble, and he looks relieved and nods.

"I'll stop telling you to chill out," he adds, and I nod. I step forward, closing the distance between us, and he opens his arms, allowing me to walk into them. He gives me a kiss on the forehead, which comforts me.

"I apologize," I say, shaking my head, my voice low.

"It's okay, baby. I get it," he whispers back. Then he steps back, grabs my arm, and leads me away from the party.

He was so different from what I thought he would be. So sweet, focused on making me happy. There were so many people at the party that I couldn't imagine doing this every day. It explained why Kent was so lonely at home; he liked to do his own thing, but he didn't grow up that way.

"He's there!" A loud voice exclaims, and I see a man walking through the kitchen. His mother stands right next to him, looking great. This must be his father. He's handsome, and Kent inherited his jawline from him. "Welcome back, son!" He places his hand on Kent's shoulder and says.
