Fell In Love With My Roomy Chapter 57

6 min 104.5K views

This night was supposed to bring joy and excitement, but instead, I felt emotionally drained. After a day of school, it was time for the Halloween party.

Earlier, we had prepared the house for the party by securing it. I had purchased a locked container a few months ago to store my belongings under my bed. Although our rooms were off-limits, people still managed to sneak in.

I hung my costume on the closet door, but I no longer felt excited about wearing it.

"Knock, knock." Abby appeared in the doorway; I had asked her to come over early so we could get ready together. "You're not still upset about Dane, are you?" she asked.

"No, I'm not upset. Just a little irritated," I replied, and she smiled, bringing two cups of orange Jell-o shots.

"Here, drink this with me," Abby said, and we both took a shot. "We're going to have so much fun tonight," she said, shaking my shoulders, making me laugh.

"Yeah, you're right." I said.

I was determined to leave Dane behind and not let him ruin my night. I didn't need a boyfriend to be happy, and it seemed like he was more likely to make me angry.

We turned on some music and started getting ready. Abby was going as Laura Croft from Tomb Raider, she sat in front of my dresser mirror and began braiding her hair.

I was trying to do a complicated up-do with bold makeup. I was finally able to wear the Jenna Rink costume from Thirteen Going On Thirty, which I had been looking forward to all month. That was also why I declined Dane's offer to do something else.

We got dressed and chatted while getting ready. Abby filled me in on the latest developments with the guy she was seeing, which always seemed like a soap opera. But it made me laugh, and she knew it.

"May I pose a question?" I inquired, applying lip gloss with an applicator.

"Sure, ask away," she chuckles.

"Is sex really that great?" I question, twisting in my chair to face her.

"What do you mean?" she asks, furrowing her eyebrows.

"Is it worth all the fuss?" I clarify, spraying some hairspray into my up-do. "I've had it before, but to be honest, it wasn't anything special and I feel rather indifferent about it."

"You've never had an orgasm?" she whispers in shock. I laugh and spin around to grab my dress.

"I think I have," I mumble.

"Oh my gosh," she says rapidly. "You haven't, not if you're only thinking you have. You're 21 years old and you've never had one." She smacks my arm, and I look confused.

"Abby, I don't want to be set up with someone. I'll only have sex when I trust the person and have a connection with them," I whisper.

"Just one night of mind-blowing sex will change your perspective," she laughs, but I roll my eyes.

"I highly doubt that," I reply.

"I'm not going to let this go," she declares. "This is practically a crime."

"Just pretend I never brought it up," I chuckle, getting dressed.

I may someday understand the excitement around sex, but for now, it feels too intimate to just have with someone I don't have feelings for. It seems I may be the only born-again virgin in the world.

"You're so cute," Abby says, jumping around excitedly. She changes and then heads out for a night of drinking.

I check my phone, hoping for a text from Dane, but knowing it's unlikely. Since I started seeing him, I stopped thinking about Kent, and that brings me peace, even though I'm not romantically attached to Dane, and we are in different places in our lives.

"Hey there." Kent greets me with a quick knock on the door, and I see him standing there looking surprised.

"Wow." He chuckles, taken aback by my bright appearance.

"Thanks, I know it's quite bold." I say with a laugh, twirling the dress to show off its design. I was surprised to see Kent all dressed up, he was wearing a police costume. I figured the other guys must have convinced him to join in on the fun.

"Nice costume, did you tear the sleeves off yourself?" I tease.

"No, it came like this." He chuckles, flexing his arms. "Be good and I'll give you the full performance." He leans against the door frame, making me catch my breath.

"Who'd say no to an offer like that?" I joke.

"So, who're you supposed to be?" Kent asks, looking curious.

"Remember our talk about culture?" I ask, crossing my arms. "Think hard, it's a classic movie."

"Die Hard?" He says with a laugh.

"Do you really think Die Hard is a classic movie of the century?" I ask in disbelief.

"Yes, it's a Christmas movie, Juls. Maybe you need to learn about culture," He shrugs.

"I'm Jenna Rink from Thirteen Going On Thirty," I say, giving up the silly game. "Played by Jennifer Garner."

"Is it about a crazy crayon incident?" He asks, referring to my colorful dress.

"You'd better watch it," I say, giving him a warning look.

"Okay, okay," He laughs, raising his hands. "Anyway, you seem happier today. Is the cheekbone still out in the wind?"

"Yeah," I sigh, amused by the nicknames he keeps coming up with for Dane. "But it's okay, it was only for two weeks. It's not like I lost the love of my life or anything. It just really disappointed me, especially considering the circumstances."

"If it makes you feel better, you're definitely the most mature resident here," Kent says, shrugging.

"That contest is definitely rigged," I said with a grin. "Come on, I'm going to beat you at beer pong." I walked out of my room, pushing past Kent, leaving my phone behind on my desk.

"You're just talking big," Kent replied with a smile. "Considering you can't keep your elbows off the table." He followed me out to the living room where we'd set up for the party. "Looks like you're back to your violent ways, Juls."

"Yep, I'm tough," I shrugged with a laugh. "A real terror."

We did our best to decorate the place, pushed all the furniture out of the way, and moved the TV and video games to the trunk of Kent's car for safekeeping. Now we're ready to party.

"Okay, let's see if you can live up to your 'kick my ass' promise," Kent said, gesturing to our makeshift beer pong table.

"Oh, you're going down, Magic Mike," I chuckled, causing Kyle, Mark, and Abby to burst into laughter. "If I win, I want a free magic show."

"And if I win?" Kent asked with a grin. "You feel like taking off that dress, Juls?"

"You're such a ladies' man," I teased, causing Abby to giggle. "What do you want?" I asked, but before he could answer, I cut him off. "Something reasonable," I reminded him, causing him to reconsider.

He looked at me, wanting something more personal, but he wasn't ready to say it. Not now, not ever.
