Fell In Love With My Roomy Chapter 68
I don't know what to do once I get home. I've been missing so many things lately, so many parties and fun nights out. I didn't want to go back and inform them that I'd made a stupid mistake.
I sniffle and step through the door; Kent's right there by the dining room table. He looks guilty, no doubt because he's the one who broke the news to me.
"Hey!" I whisper quietly, and he nods, looking down at the floor. It had been a few days since our talk about staying away from each other. I felt really betrayed, thank God I'd never slept with Dane.
"C'mere," he says quietly, nodding his head over, and I nod, walking quietly until I can wrap my arms around him. He squeezes the life out of me, and I start to sob. I'd managed to hold it together the whole way home, but seeing Kent was too much.
"I'm so stupid," I cry, and he shakes his head, lifting me off the ground.
"No, Juls, he's the idiot," he whispers. I just felt hollow; my mind was warped from this entire exchange, from feeling like I could actually work something out with a self-centered cheater.
"What's wrong?" I hear Mark ask, along with the sound of his door opening.
"Dane's a jerk," I whisper, and Mark sighs. I hear another door open, and that's Kyle joining the party. "We're done for good, forever. If you see him here, tell him to leave."
"What happened?" Mark asks. Kent won't let me down; it's a good excuse to hug him, so I don't move away. My lower lip wobbles, and Kent sighs.
"Mark, just cool off for a sec," he whispers, walking me to the couch. He sits down next to me, letting me curl into his side. I missed it here; I missed being so close to him. Now I don't have to feel so guilty about it.
Mark sits on my other side, and Kyle sits on the coffee table across from me. I pull my knees into my chest and take a deep breath.
"I went over early this morning to see if we could iron out some of the problems in our relationship," I whisper quietly. "He looked like hell; I just thought he got a bad night of sleep," I continue, wiping a tear from under my eye. "I couldn't have him meet my parents the way we were. He doesn't tell me anything about him; we never have proper conversations, and I just... I felt exhausted."
I hadn't even properly processed everything going on; I hadn't thought about what he said to me. I can't even think about the cheating.
"He was angry that I even thought talking was important. He claimed all we did was talk, but he didn't... he didn't know one single thing about me. I could name loads of things about him... it hurt like hell to have him get things wrong about me and then look at me like I was the monster."
"So... what happened?" Kyle asks, and Mark and Kent shoot him a look. That makes me chuckle a bit, and they all look so confused. Kyle was always a few seconds off with social timing; he didn't always understand feelings and the way Kent and Mark responded was funny.
"Can you just say it?" I ask Kent who nods, clearing his throat.
"Last night I went for a run, I ran in the city when I couldn't sleep, and I ran past that jerk with his tongue shoved down another girl's throat. I took a picture, and I wanted to tell Juls... but it was like two in the morning, and I knew she was asleep. I texted it to her as soon as I woke up."
"While you were out with Dane?" Mark clarifies, and I nod.
"I asked him why, and he said that he was a man with needs and that I couldn't blame him." I sigh, sniffing in a breath. "He was a jerk about it. I'd never seen him so...mean to me. I broke up with him and left."
"Thank god," they all seem to say in unison, and I snort a small laugh.
"I figured that guy was a jerk," Kyle sighs, and I roll my eyes. "He never respected our pong rules."
"Well, I care a lot more that he respects Juls," Kent insists, and Kyle nods with a shrug.
"He didn't...I don't think he ever did," I whisper, feeling new tears leak down my cheeks. "I'm so freaking stupid; I never should have taken him back on Halloween. It was so obvious, right? You all hated him, and so did Abby."
"Just breathe," Kent whispers, and I sniffle, trying to calm down slightly. "Nothing's obvious, Juls; you didn't do anything wrong."
"Yeah, screw that guy," Mark adds, and I laugh slightly.
"Let's go out and get so wasted that you can't even remember dating him," Kyle suggests, and I give him a weak smile for his effort.
"Hey!" I hear in an upbeat voice, the front door opens, and I see Abby walk through the door. "Mark? I have your physio tape! It helped my knee last night; I'm just going to leave it on..." She fades out her shouting when she sees all of us sitting just a few yards away. "Juls!" She exclaims, dropping the roll of tape on the floor and scurrying to the couch, squeezing in between Mark and me.
"Hi," I mumble, and she wraps her arms around me tightly.
"Oh my god, I'm going to stab that jerk," she whispers, and I laugh over her shoulder.
"How'd you know it was Dane?" I ask quietly, and she snorts.
"He's a piece of work, Juls; I told you I thought there was something bad about him," she shrugs, and I sigh.
"Yeah, yeah, you told me so."
"No, it's not an I-told-you-so; it's that I'm just an excellent judge of character," she whispers, and I smile. "Thank god I'm here; why didn't you call me?"
"I only got here a second ago," I whisper.
"And we are capable of being decent people," Mark echoes, making me laugh. "We had things under control."
"Juls, has one of them already suggested drinking the pain away?" She asks, and Kyle scratches his neck. "That's such a dude thing; let Juls feel her feelings."
"It's okay; I appreciate it," I assure her. "And thanks, Kyle, but I'm not really in the mood to go out tonight."
"Understandable," he shrugs, and I lean my head on Abby's shoulder. "What do you want to do?" She asks, and I sigh.
"I want to go home and eat dinner with my family anyway; I just wish I didn't feel so lousy," I admit. "I want to see them, though, at least now I don't have to bring him. Sucks for him, my mom makes good enchiladas," I brag, and they all laugh.
"Damn, I'd probably date you for a good enchilada," Abby teases, and I smile.
"Me too; all I have in the fridge is a slice of bologna and butter," Mark sighs, and I blink.
"Well, do you guys want to come? Mom's recipe makes like forty; she freezes them normally... but there'd be lots of food," I shrug.
"Yep, done," Mark says, and I chuckle. "I want in; I hope your mom's prepared for the damage I'm going to do," he adds, rubbing his hands together, and I snort.
"I'll come," Abby shrugs.
"I'm down for free food," Kyle admits, and I smile.
"You wanna come?" I ask Kent, and he laughs.
"Sure," he mumbles. "I can drive everyone; save your parents a trip."
"Cool...I guess I should go tell my mom the change of plans," I whisper, standing up to go back down the hall to my room.
"We love you, Juls; we're here if you need us," Abby says, and I smile weakly. I walk to my room and close the door, pulling out my phone.
My screen is covered with messages from Dane, some good, some bad. Either way, I block his number, too sad and upset to see them. I phone mom seeing it's still relatively early. She won't have even started dinner yet.
