"Just be naked when he gets back from class today," she shrugs, and I elbow her. "What? It's a great plan—"

"We live with his friends! That's a terrible idea," I insist, and she laughs. "Help me, what does Kent like?"

"You know more about him than any of the rest of us, Juls," she reminds me, and I groan. "What kind of candy does he like?"

"Kent doesn't do sweet; he's a steamed broccoli, black coffee kind of guy."

"Ew," she mumbles, and I nod. "Get him a dumbbell; better yet, have him bench press you!"

"Not funny," I answer, and she sighs, rolling her eyes.

"Why does this matter? Kent likes you the way you are; you're the only girl he's ever dated. I'm sure he just wants to take you to dinner and hang out with you."

"Because he does so many nice things for me, you have no idea," I mumble. "He always thinks of creative, adorable things to give me or do for me, and I can't think of one thing to get him. I literally forgot this was happening today, and now I'm screwed."

"Make him a card," she suggests, and I groan.

"I would if I had an artistic bone in my body," I mumble. "Why did I leave this until the last minute? I can't avoid him all day."

"Just chill out," she insists, and I nod, taking a deep breath. "What else does he like? What does he do every day that you could somehow improve?"

"I could cook dinner tonight," I answer with a shrug. "He cooks this healthy food that I only enjoy thirty percent of the time. I tried when we went to New York, but there wasn't an opportunity."

"Okay, good! Solid start, what else?" She asks, and I chew the inside of my cheek. I suddenly skip ahead in my brain and pull my phone out of my back pocket, unlocking it and going through my pictures. "What is it?"

"We finally took a picture together in New York; it's a really good one," I answer quickly. "I-I know what to do for him; I just need to find a place that'll do same-day printing," I tell her, grabbing her arm, and she grins. "Well, something finally clicked in that big brain of yours," she laughs. "I'd still go for the sex route too."

"I think it's an established part of Valentine's day; I don't need to give that to him," I explain, and she laughs. "Doesn't it weird you out to talk about Kent and I sleeping together?"

"Not really, why?"

"Because it seems to bother everyone else," I explain, and she snorts.

"No way, I think it's good that you're finally dusting the cobwebs off and putting a little sex back into your life," she tells me, and I snort at her bold statement. "How is it?" She asks quietly, and I smile nervously, pressing my lips together.

"How do you think?" I whisper, and she squeals.

"Oh my god yes! Thank thank God!" She groans, and I laugh, scanning the mall for a CVS or something that might have one of those kiosks to run off photos. "You see why everyone's so into it now?"

"Yeah," I admit, and she giggles. "Now come on, I need to get this done. We can talk more about it when it's not Valentine's day," I say, pulling her arm, and she shrugs, going along with me.

It took a while, but I think I managed to get everything ready for Valentine's Day. I knew he had a decent amount of class today which kept him out of the apartment for a while. That gave me time to put away the groceries, wrap my gift, and fill out a card for him.

I took a long shower, shaving everything and getting ready for a little date. I begged him not to take me to dinner again so I know he won't have that planned. It'll be perfect to just do our thing in the apartment.

I take my time getting ready, carefully blowing out my hair and using some hairspray. Breaking open some new mascara and a lip gloss, applying them with the rest of my makeup routine.

I go through my underwear drawer, wishing it had more to offer, but I ultimately settle on a red lace bra. It wasn't the best for my day-to-day life; it had a lot of padding and extra detailing that I didn't like, but I'd wear it for him. I found the closest thing to matching underwear; even at a simple glance, you could tell they were different lace patterns, but he wouldn't notice.

I pull on a nice dress and even my heels, hurrying over to my phone and dialing Mark's number. I completely forgot the most key part of this plan.

"Hello—"

"How much money do I have to give you to stay out of the apartment tonight?" I ask quickly.

"Hello to you too, Juls. Nice to hear from you," he says in a cocky tone, and I groan.

"Answer my question."

"Why do you want me out so bad?"

"Because it's Valentine's day, and I want the kitchen and dining room. You keep retching whenever you see us together, so I'm kindly asking you to stay away," I tell him, putting my hand on my hip. "Please?"

"You want it so you and Kent can play house?" He asks.

"Yes! I do!" I exclaim. "Please?"

"Well, it just so happens that I have plans for tonight anyway," he shrugs. "It's a busy night for me."

"Perfect. Do you know about Kyle?"

"Not sure, I can get him out though," Mark answers, and I furrow my eyebrows. He's helping? "Bring him on my date and have her bring a girl too. Turn it into a double."

"You're going on a date?" I ask, feeling excited, and he laughs.

"Slow down there, Juls. It's not a real date; it's mostly to wind up back at her place."

"Ew, Mark, that is so..." I fade off, shaking my head. "Never mind, I don't have time to care. Thanks, I owe you one."

"Sure, yeah, yeah," he says, and I smile. "See you later."

I toss my phone on my desk and then head out to the kitchen, setting up candles and laying out his present on the dining room table. Good job, Juls; this is the first time I feel like I'm being a real girlfriend, like I'm doing just as much for him as he always does for me.

I've definitely overdone candles and mood lighting, but I know he's not expecting it. This is going to be so good.
