The Biker's Fate Chapter 524
His lip twitched. "Didn't sleep with Nora either."
"Seriously?"
"Seriously."
"Why not?" I asked. "She totally would have."
"Yeah, I know." He leaned forward more. "But I couldn't."
"Why not?"
Flash shrugged. "By senior year, she was kind of the school bike."
"What does that mean?"
"Everyone had had a ride."
"Flash!" I hissed but admittedly trying not to laugh. "That's horrible."
"I know. But it was true." He shrugged. "She wanted more than I was willing to give, and I just wasn't willing to lead her on."
"I can appreciate that," I said, and I smiled.
That was Flash. Honest to the core, and yes, he was a biker, but he was also a gentleman. He'd been raised right, and he might be a little thick headed at times, but he was ultimately a good guy.
"What's your week like?" he asked.
"I have another interview on Tuesday, but otherwise, I'm studying. What about you?"
"Flights Tuesday and Thursday, club meeting on Wednesday. Weekend's free."
I grinned. "So's mine."
"Wanna spend it with me?"
"Yes," I whispered.
"Awesome."
The rest of the night was spent in comfortable conversation and good food. By the time Flash took me home, my belly was full, and I had a happy buzz on from the wine.
I really wanted to wrap myself around him and stay all night, but like the gentleman he was, he dropped me home, kissing me on my parents' porch, and waiting for me to walk inside before leaving.
Tuesday afternoon, I'd had another interview… in Portland. Surprisingly, the afternoon commuter gridlock hadn't made me want to murder bunnies. However, I didn't let the unusually open road lure me into a false sense of security because it was all a lie. The drive would be a nightmare and I had to take that into consideration if I took the job.
Provided I was even offered it to begin with.
I dragged myself up to my room and changed, walking into the kitchen just as my brother stepped through the back door with this week's cheerleader on his arm.
"Hey, Theo."
"Hey, sis. This is Maeve."
"Hi Maeve. It's nice to meet you."
She smiled and nodded. "Nice to meet you too."
"We're heading to a movie. Mom and Dad are on a date and Hayden's getting ready for work. Bye."
He walked away and I waved, even though he didn't see me.
"Have a good time," I said to his retreating back.
I couldn't stop a chuckle.
I had just opened the fridge to find something to make for dinner when my doorbell pealed. I headed to the front door and checked the peephole. I grinned and pulled open the door. "Hi."
Flash grinned. "Hey, baby."
"I thought you had a flight."
"I did. Got back early."
"Come in," I said, stepping back.
He stepped inside, leaning down to kiss me quickly. "You wanna go out to dinner?"
I shook my head. "I'm in yoga pants, bud. That means I'm going nowhere that doesn't involve my sofa."
He waggled his eyebrows. "You wanna make-out on the sofa and I'll get you out of those yoga pants?"
"Slow your roll. If we're really going to try and do this, then we can't rush it."
Flash nodded. "Works for me."
I narrowed my eyes. "Really?"
He grinned. "Yeah, baby. I can wait. I want you to know you're making the right decision."
I sighed and bit my lip. "This is weird."
"Not weird." Flash leaned down, kissing the little freckle at the corner of my mouth. "More of a beautiful beginning."
"Is Jamie rubbing off on you?"
Flash's younger brother was a beautiful soul. It didn't take long to figure that out, although, looking at him would belie the fact he was artistic and sensitive, as he looked just as much the badass as his brother and father. But he was also a musician who wrote incredible songs that made you want to crawl inside his guitar.
He grinned. "Would that be a bad thing?"
"No. I adore your brother."
"Oh, I'm aware," he grumbled. "Everyone does."
"I actually loved him more than you, up until about a week ago," I sassed.
"And now?"
"You've inched him out." I patted his chest. "For the moment."
"Are you and Flash still canoodling?" my sister bellowed down the stairs.
"How did she know I was here?" he asked.
"Doorbell cam," I said, then bellowed up the stairs. "Are you still eavesdropping?"
"Hell, yes, I am."
"Then you should already have the answer to your dumbass question," I growled.
I heard my sister's laugh, loud at the top of the stairs, then it ebbed as she closed the door to her bedroom.
"You sure you don't want to go out to dinner?" Flash asked.
"Honestly, I'm totally fried from my interview. Pizza and a movie here?"
"As long as you let me buy."
I nodded. "Works for me."
An hour later, I was curled up against Flash, the remnants of the pizza in the boxes in the middle of the coffee table and a couple of beer bottles next to them.
My sister had grabbed some pizza on her way out the door which gave me and Flash privacy. Not that we necessarily needed it. We loaded up an old Clint Eastwood movie and ate in relative silence.
Now he had his arm around me, and he was stroking the back of my neck, which felt incredibly nice. I dropped my head on his shoulder and tucked my legs under me, leaning heavily against him. As much as I tried, I couldn't stop myself from yawning.
Flash gave me a gentle squeeze. "I wore you out already? We haven't even done anything fun."
I chuckled. "This was fun."
"Just wait until I can show you real fun."
"Can't wait," I whispered, closing my eyes.
"Don't fall asleep."
"Too late."
He kissed the top of my head. "Your parents are gonna be home soon, right?"
I sighed. "Yeah."
