She walked out the door and I leaned against the island, dropping my head to the cool granite. Lily walked back in a few minutes later and handed me a wrapped pregnancy test. "Go pee."

I nodded and slipped into the bathroom. I tore open the packet, then spent a few seconds staring at the little wand.

There's no way.

Just no way.

Absolutely no fucking way.

I took a deep breath and did my thing, setting the stick on a wad of toilet paper while I washed my hands. Pulling open the door, I found Lily waiting for me and she pushed away from the door, holding her phone up and pressing a button on the side. "Timer," she explained.

I bit my lip and nodded.

She smiled. "Are you okay?"

"No," I rasped. "There's no way I'm pregnant."

"Well, there's a way," she corrected, and I couldn't help but smile.

"Right. But I can't be pregnant without Flash."

"He'll be fine." Her phone beeped and she laid her hand on my shoulder. "Ready?"

"God, no," I breathed out.

"It's all on your time, honey. I have nowhere I need to be, so I'll just wait right here with you."

"Thanks, Lily."

She nodded, linking her hands in front of her.

I licked my lips. "Okay, I'm ready."

"Great. It's all you. Go for it."

"Okay," I said, rocking back and forth on my feet. "I'm going to look at it right now."

"Great."

"Like, right now," I repeated.

She chuckled. "No rush, Tate."

I chewed on my bottom lip. "Yep."

We stood in the doorway of my bathroom for another five minutes before I finally got the courage to look at the stick.

And then I completely lost my shit.

"No," I rasped. "Nope. Absolutely not."

"Can I see?" Lily asked, and I waved at the stick.

She leaned over and she smiled. "You're pregnant!"

"Nope. It's a mistake."

She nodded. "It could be."

I relaxed.

"But it's probably not."

I wrinkled my nose and huffed. "Crap."

"My OB is awesome. I can refer you to her if you want."

"I can't think about any of that right now, Lily."

"I totally get that."

"We have patient-nurse confidentiality, right?"

She smiled. "You're not my patient, but if you don't want me to tell anyone, I won't."

I nodded.

"What do you need?"

"I have no idea." I shook my head. "Oh my god, what if Flash is…"

"He's fine," Lily pressed. "Don't go there."

"I need my mom."

"Call her," Lily said.

"Right. I'll get your stuff."

"I'm not leaving you, honey. You can get my stuff, but I'm staying right here."

I nodded, shuffling back to the kitchen where I grabbed my phone and called my mom.

"Hey, Tate."

"Mama?"

"Oh my god, what happened?"

"Flash is missing."

"I'll be there in ten seconds," she said and hung up.

Mom and Hayden walked through the door ten minutes before Maisie, and my two moms wrapped me in their loving arms as Lily put the call out to the girl squad. By seven, my house was filled with all of the Wallace men, Poppy, several of the club women, along with their male counterparts, and all of the club officers, including Mack.

I curled up on the corner of my sofa, overlooking the water, a cup of hot tea in my hands at all times. The only time I moved was to get up to pee. Every physical need was seen to by someone other than me. No one made me do anything. Mom and Maisie prepared food for anyone who wanted it, Hayden sat close enough to me so that no one would crowd me, but far enough from me so I wouldn't feel claustrophobic, and everyone just let me be… me.

Every time Maisie's phone would ring, I'd crane my neck, hoping for some kind of good news. She'd meet my eyes and shake her head and I'd be right back where I began, my heart shattered and my stomach roiling.

The sun had long set when my mom walked over to me and held her hand out. "Honey, you need to rest."

I shook my head. "I need to know Flash is okay."

She waved her hand in the "mama wave" and I sighed, taking it, and letting her pull me up. She slid her arm around my waist and guided me down the hall to my bedroom.

Once inside, she closed the door and faced me, settling her hands on my shoulders, studying me.

"What?" I rasped.

"Baby, are you pregnant?"

I gasped. "How the hell did you know that?"

She cupped my face. "You have been vomiting all day. You never vomit. You have always said you'd rather have your eyeballs plucked out by crows than puke."

"I'm stressed. In case you haven't noticed, my fiancé is missing."

"Your boobs are huge."

I pulled my cardigan tighter around my body and frowned. "Okay, it's weird that you notice this kind of shit."

She smiled gently. "When did you find out?"

"Ten minutes after I found out Flash was missing."

"Oh my sweet girl," she crooned, pulling me in for a hug, causing me to burst into fresh tears. "I've got you."

"What am I going to do without him, Mama?"

"You're not going to have to find out, honey. He's going to be fine." She cupped my face again. "Why don't you have a nice warm bath and then we'll get you tucked into bed. You need rest. Maisie and I'll wake you should we hear anything."

"You're going to stay?" I whispered.

"Of course we're going to stay, sweetie," she said. "I've taken the week off work, so I'm here until the second we hear Flash is safe, and longer if you need me."

I smiled through watery eyes. "Thanks, Mama."

She kissed my cheek, then started the water in the tub.
