"I should probably get goin'."

"Yeah," I said, but slid my hand over his waist and squeezed.

"What are you doin' Thursday night?"

"What I'm doing every night… studying for the Bar."

"Do you take breaks?" he asked.

"Sometimes," I joked.

"I have a flight, but I should be back by five, so you wanna do somethin'?"

"Helicopter or plane?"

"Helo."

"Mmm, sexy," I mused, closing my eyes again.

"I'll take you up soon."

"Nope, I'm good, thanks."

"Baby, it's safer than driving."

"Says you," I retorted.

"You still scared of bikes?"

"You bet your ass."

My fear of bikes came after he'd bit it quite badly during a motocross race sophomore year. He'd broken his arm and a couple of ribs and had been knocked out for a few very tense seconds. It had scared the absolute shit out of me, and I'd refused to ever watch him race again.

He shifted me so he could kiss my temple. "I'm gonna change that."

"Good luck with that."

He chuckled, leaning down to kiss me gently, as I slid my hand up his chest and stroked his pulse.

"I should go."

"Yeah," I said, leaning up to kiss him again.

His hand tightened around my waist as he slipped his tongue between my lips, deepening the kiss just as I heard the beep of the alarm indicating the front door opening.

I broke the kiss with a sigh and Flash smiled gently. "I'm gonna go."

I nodded, licking my lips as I reluctantly peeled myself away from his body. We both stood and I led him to the front door.

"Oh, hello, Flash," Mom said, kicking her shoes into the corner. "How are you?"

"I'm great, Mrs. Burke, thanks."

He shook my dad's hand, and I knew Dad would grill me the second Flash was gone.

"How was your date?" I asked my parents.

"It was good," Dad said, smiling. "You still flying, Flash?"

"Yes, sir. I actually have a flight Thursday."

"That's great. Are you riding with your dad's club?"

"Sure am. You should come to family night sometime," Flash said.

Dad chuckled, glancing at me. "We haven't done that in a while. Might be fun."

"Well, Flash was just leaving," I said, earning an eyebrow raise from Flash.

"Yeah, I should get going," he confirmed, and after he said goodbye to my parents, I walked him out onto the porch.

"Call me when you get home," I bossed.

He chuckled. "Call or text?"

"Call," I breathed out. "I want proof of life."

"Okay, baby," he said, stroking my cheek.

"No kiss?" I asked.

"Camera doorbell, baby. Wanna be respectful of your parents."

I smiled. "Make up for it Thursday?"

"You bet."

He chuckled and I watched him get in his truck and drive away. The second I couldn't see him anymore, I stepped back inside and locked the door behind me, turning to find my dad standing in the foyer, his arms crossed, watching me.

"What?" I asked, a little more defensively than I should have.

"I thought you hated Flash Wallace."

I sighed. "I know. I did. But I hated him based on incorrect information."

"What information?"

"Totally not important," I bit out. "I was being unkind, but he cared about me enough to hash it out with me."

"I don't like it when you're not happy, Tate, so you need to lead me on this."

I wrapped my arms around his waist. "I know, Daddy, but we're good. It's just going to take a little time to get back to normal." My phone buzzed in my pocket, and I pulled it out. "It's Flash. Are we good?"

He squeezed my chin gently. "We're good, honey."

I answered my phone as I rushed up the stairs. "Hi."

"Hey," Flash said.

"I take it you got home safe?" I deduced.

"I did," he said. "It was hairy, though. Almost got taken out by a crow."

I wrinkled my nose. "As long as they don't touch the face."

He chuckled. "I'll be sure to wear a helmet going forward."

We had a few seconds of silence before Flash guessed I was mulling something over.

"What, baby?"

I bit my lip. "My dad's worried."

"That's understandable," he said. "Are you worried?"

"Now that you're not in front of me? Yes."

"I'm gonna change that, Tate. Promise."

"I can honestly say I'm looking forward to that," I breathed out.

"Jesus, me too."

I chuckled. "I accept all types of chocolate-related bribes."

"Oh, I remember," he said.

"Or Cinnabon."

He laughed. "Okay."

"You should go."

"I got a couple minutes," he said.

I bit my lip. "I really missed you."

"Same."

I squeezed my eyes shut and whispered, "I'm so sorry, Parker."

"Water under the bridge, baby. We're moving forward."

"But I chose to jump to conclusions rather than talk to you."

"Well, this is true."

I gasped. "Parker Connor Wallace, you were supposed to say something contrary about how I hung the moon for you, and I have never done anything wrong."

He laughed. "Sorry. I'll try to remember that next time."

"Goobers."

"Whadidya just call me?"

This time it was my time to laugh. "Goobers candy," I corrected. "You can buy me some to make it up to me."

"Okay, baby, I'll buy you a case of Goobers."

"Thanks." I smiled. "As much as I hate to do it, I need to let you go. I'll be pissed if you crash your helicopter because I kept you up all night."

"Yeah, that would not be good. I'll text you tomorrow and we'll figure out dinner."

"Can't wait."

"Love you, Tate."

I bit my lip. "Love you too."

"See you tomorrow."

"Okay. Bye."

I hung up and flopped onto my pillows a grin from ear to ear as my heart soared.
