The Triplets' Rejected Disabled Mate Chapter 102
Colt's POV
Kate told us about her dream.
"How can you be sure that it wasn't just a dream?" Grey asked.
"Kia told me," Kate said, and she sighed.
"Remember when Kia gave us a warning too?" Sam asked.
"Yeah," Grey said, nodding his head. "It was unexpected, and Ray took charge to talk to her."
"What warning?" Kate asked, looking a bit annoyed.
"Didn't Kia tell you about it?" Sam asked.
"No," she said, startled. "I have no idea what you are talking about.
Did Kia block her off?
Why would she keep this from Kate?
Was she scared that Kate would freak out?
"Remember the day on the beach?" Sam asked.
Kate knitted her eyebrows together, thinking.
"What about it?" Kate asked, still confused.
"You semi-shifted," Grey said.
"I thought I imagined it," Kate said.
"You haven't," I said. "You did partly shift."
"Kia wanted to speak to us, and she gave us a warning," Sam said.
"Warning? What kind of warning? What did she say to you?" Kate asked.
"That the prison has escaped and that he is coming for you," Grey said.
"We didn't know to whom she was referring," Sam said. "We guess she was referring to Brian..."
"So you decided not to tell me?" Kate snapped.
"We didn't want to upset you," I said, taking her hand in mine. "You already had a lot on your mind."
Kate raised an eyebrow at me.
"You just met us," Grey said, trying to explain things.
"We were a handful, jealous, and possessive," Sam said.
"And you just found out you could move your toes," I added. "And we thought we were protecting you."
Kate sighed and rubbed her temples.
"Keeping information to yourself is not protecting me," she said.
"True," Sam said, "but you have been hiding things too."
"I wanted to make sure about my facts before telling you," Kate argued. "I couldn't just tell you that Brian was going to hunt me down if he was still locked up in jail. You would have thought I was crazy. I didn't know where Ethan was. I haven't spoken to him in months."
"Then you should have at least told us when you found out that Brian had broken out of prison and gone rogue," I argued.
"And you didn't," Grey said, pissed.
"You kept it to yourself," Sam added, crossing his arms around his chest.
"I am sorry, guys," Kate said. "It was just too much to handle, and I was scared that you would get hurt."
Sam rolled his eyes.
"Girl," he said. "We are Alpha wolves. Not second-rank betas."
"We are strong," Grey said, showing off his biceps. "Very, very strong."
"And he is outnumbered, three to one," I added.
"I know, I know," Kate said and sighed. "I'm sorry. I am just used to doing everything by myself."
"Pack that mindset of yours doing everything by yourself in a trash bag and throw it in the bin," Grey said. "We don't like it!"
"We are your mates, and we are there to look after and protect you," Sam said.
"No issue is too big or too small to discuss with us," I added. "We will all come together and discuss it and then decide what to do."
"Fine," Kate said, throwing her hands in the air and giving up. "I will talk to you first before I decide to keep it a secret."
"Promise?" I asked, seriously.
"Pinkey swear?" Sam growled, holding out his pinky.
"Cross your heart and hope to die," Grey said.
Kate rolled her eyes at my brothers. She took Sam's pinky with hers, crossed her heart, and looked at me.
"Promise," she said.
The single word held so much strength that I could feel it strengthening our bond between all of us.
"What was that?!" Sam gasped over our link, bewildered.
"Did you feel that too?" Grey asked.
"She made a vow," I said. "A promise she will not break..."
My gaze moved over Kate, and a small smile followed at the corners of my lips.
I looked at her in wonder. She was something different—a hidden jewel in the rough.
The waitress came closer and brought us our drink order, and Kate let go of Sam's pinky.
"Alpha, are you guys ready to order?" The girl asked.
Kate turned her gaze to me, asking a silent question when I didn't answer.
"What?" I asked, startled. "Did I miss something?"
Kate gestured to the waitress, standing next to me.
"She wants to know if we are ready to order?" She said.
Did she talk to me?
"Yes," I said, shaking my head, embarrassed.
We placed our orders, and the girl went on her way.
"So what are we going to do with cousin Ethan?" Sam asked.
"Not sure," I said. "He is coming, and we can't change that."
"What about hiding, Kate?" Grey suggested.
"It wouldn't work," I said. "He will scent her."
"But he rejected her," Sam argued.
"He shouldn't be able to smell her," Grey said.
"How sure are you about that?" I asked.
"Isn't that how it works?" Sam asked. "As soon as you reject your mate, the bond is broken, and everything that binds you to that person disappears."
We all turned toward Kate; she was the only one who could answer that.
Kate stared at nothing. Her face was frozen and full of sorrow. A single tear made its way down her cheek.
"Kate?" I called, yet she didn't answer or move.
Sam snapped his fingers in front of her eyes, hoping to get her attention.
Kate blinked a second later, looking at us all confused.
"Where has your mind gone?" Grey asked.
"Are you daydreaming about us again?" Sam asked and winked.
Kate shook her head.
"Are you okay?" I asked, concerned.
"I'm fine," she said, giving me a sad smile. "What did you ask again?" She asked, seemingly sad and embarrassed.
"After your rejection, could you scent Brian?" Grey repeated the question.
Kate took a moment to think about it.
"To be honest," Kate said and sighed. "I couldn't smell him when he attacked me. So I guess the answer should be no."
"But you are not sure," I asked.
Kate nodded her head.
"So, what do we do now?" Sam asked.
"We will protect what is ours at all costs," I said.
If only it was that easy...
