The Triplets' Rejected Disabled Mate Chapter 118
Catherine POV
"Hi Kate," Leah's soft, shy voice grabbed my attention, and I turned my head, looking for her in the crowd.
When I didn't see her, I narrowed my eyes, confused. I was sure I just heard Leah calling me.
An unrecognizable girl dressed in white started waving at me.
"Leah?" I called out in surprise. "Is that you?"
"Yes," she answered, smiling and coming closer.
"Wow!" I said, wide-eyed, when she reached me. "You certainly cleaned up well!"
She shyly giggled in response as my gaze moved over her.
Leah looks so different from the girl I met in the dining room. She was still shy, but she was neatly dressed and had put on make-up.
My gaze moved over her soft white dress, flowing down to her knees. It suited her figure perfectly. Her dark hair was washed and pinned in an updo, revealing her slender neck and showing off her big brown chocolate eyes.
"Thank you," she said. "My mother is hoping I will find my mate tonight. I think she wants grand pups."
I couldn't help but laugh. That was typical of older she-wolves wanting grand pups.
"Any luck?" I asked, wiping the laughing tears from my eyes.
Leah looked bewildered and stepped closer.
"I think he is here," she whispered nervously.
"Then where is he?" I asked.
"I'm not sure," she said. "But my wolf has been going crazy in my mind from the second I set foot at the festival."
"That's a good sign," I said. "He must be close. Now you just need to get a whiff of his scent and find him."
Leah rolled her eyes, annoyed at me, nodding. She didn't look too keen on that idea.
"I know," she eventually said, sighing. "It's just that I am scared."
"What are you afraid of?" I asked.
She kept quiet for a moment and started fiddling with the hem of her dress.
"You will think I am silly," she whispered shyly.
"No, I wouldn't," I said, reaching out to her.
She let out a deep breath, looked over her shoulder, and turned back to me before she answered.
"I am scared that he doesn't want me," she said, peeking from under her eyelashes. "Or that he is a bad wolf, or worse, an Alpha. I just want a sweet, loving mate. Nothing more. He doesn't need to be rich or a ranked wolf. He doesn't need to have a title or even a rank. I would be fine with an omega mate. I just want someone who would love me for me."
Leah kept on blabbering.
If only she knew that all wolves wanted the same thing and that all of us were scared of not knowing who our mate was.
My thoughts wandered back to my seventeenth birthday.
I can recall how scared I was not knowing if Brian was my mate or not, but the moment we realized we were mates, it was magical and so perfect.
Nothing else mattered; only we did.
A small smile tucked at the corners of my lips as the old memory replayed in my mind.
That was the happiest day of my life! I was so relieved and so happy!
Now I only had the happy memory left, and somehow it saddened me.
Things could have been so much different.
I sighed.
Young wolves nowadays are pressured into finding their mates sooner due to the werewolf population declining in huge numbers.
Some young wolves are now even taking chosen mates to get the pressure off them.
I shook my head at that thought.
Usually, when the goddess picks someone for you, the chances of them rejecting you are slim. The goddess pairs us with someone who will bring out the best in us.
And then, like in my case, when I eventually found him, he turned out to be a total jerk and rejected me.
"You will find him," I said, patting her hand. "And he will love you for you!"
Leah smiled at me, but before she could say anything, the screeching voice of Amy rang in my ears.
I sighed, shaking my head. Doesn't she have anything else to do but irritate me?
"Look, everybody!" Amy yelled and pointed toward me. "The disabled Luna has already been ditched by her mates!"
I internally rolled my eyes. When will this girl back off?
Amy and her click came closer, stopping a couple of feet from me.
"F*ck off, runt!" One of the girls growled at Leah.
"That's rude!" I snapped. "She was here first!"
Leah shivered, turning her gaze toward me.
"Who cares?" the same girl snapped, placing her hands on her hips.
"It's all right," I said to Leah. "Rather, you leave. I will be fine. Go see if you can find your mate."
"Ooh," the group charmed. "Is the runt scenting her mate? I guess he must be just as disgusting and weak as her!"
"Leave her alone!" I snapped.
"Why should we?" One of Amy's clicks said, "She is not one of us. She is an outsider and not part of the pack!"
"Her scent is that of a pack member," I argued, sitting up straight.
"That doesn't mean she belongs," another girl argued.
"Then Amy doesn’t belong as well," I said.
"She does!" Another argued. "She was born in this pack."
"Yet she left!" I argued. Sam told me everything about Amy; I was surprised he didn't mention her bra and panties size.
"I came back," Amy argued.
"Yeah, true," I said. "Only because the Luna invited you, not because you wanted to come back on your own."
The girls looked at each other and scrunched their eyebrows together.
Did I get through to them?
I wasn't particularly enjoying this, but something had to give, and the surprised gazes of the girls did give me some kind of hope.
I needed to stop this bullying before someone got hurt.
But before I knew what was happening, Amy charged forward, pushing the bar stool toward the pool.
The bar stool's leg got stuck, and I came crashing down in the bitterly cold water.
