Catherine POV

"I think it's inappropriate," Alpha Michael said. "This is a family-ONLY dinner. Friends and especially old flings are not invited."

Amy's face turned white out of shock and seconds later crimson. She didn't expect Alpha Michael to be this harsh.

Colt coughed behind his hand, trying to contain his laughter, as Amy's gaze turned to Luna Mary, seeking help.

Yet Luna Mary's face was twisted in pure disappointment and anger, but she didn't dare argue with her mate.

A smile followed on Sam's lips; he was enjoying his mother's and old girlfriend's discomfort.

Grey crossed his arms around his chest, and an annoying cheeky grin was painted on his lips.

"You are excused!" Alpha Michael barked when Amy didn't move, lifting his hand in the air and waving her off coldly.

Amy's gaze caught mine, and she gave me a hateful glare. I sat upright, looking into her eyes. I refused to be intimidated by her.

"If you do not leave now," Alpha Michael growled. "I will call the guards and have you arrested!"

Amy's angry gaze snapped back toward Alpha Michael. She wanted to say something, but instead, she nodded and stormed off.

"That was unnecessary," Alpha Michael said calmly, turning his disapproving gaze toward his mate. "I expected more from you!"

Luna Mary slowly nodded and dropped her gaze, and a nagging feeling of her not liking me crept up my spine.

I turned to look at Colt, asking the silent question.

"Don't worry," he said. "I will explain later."

I nodded and sighed, feeling my heart race.

Was she the one who broke into my room and destroyed my things?

Dinner took its course. The food was fantastic, and the conversations flowed easily. I answered questions and became comfortable with Alpha Michael. He was really interested in getting to know me, but Luna Mary kept quiet. She only answered questions when she was asked. She refused to even glance at me.

The atmosphere around her was uncomfortable, yet everyone around her ignored her attitude and enjoyed themselves.

Was I making Luna Mary uncomfortable?

Was she plotting against me because of that?

Did Alpha Michael scold her over the mate link?

Was it because of my disability or was it because of something else?

I can't remember doing something to upset her, and I just couldn't help but wonder.

"Thank you, Alpha, Luna," I said when dinner was done. "The food was delicious. Complements to the chef!"

Luna Mary's gaze slowly turned toward me, and she looked at me, surprised.

Did she think I wouldn't thank them for the wonderful feast they served?

"Mary made most of the dishes herself," Alpha Michael praised, smiling at his mate. "I am glad you liked it."

Luna Mary nodded and gave me a small smile.

Was that a breakthrough?

"Kate can't cook to save her life," Sam said.

"She almost burned down the kitchen," Grey added to my embarrassment, and I sank back in my chair again. This is so embarrassing!

"We are hoping Mother will be willing to show Kate the ropes in the kitchen," Colt said, winking at me.

Oh goddess, no! Were the triplets conspiring against me? They know I am no good in the kitchen!

I can't cook; I would poison everyone.

"We want her to become just as good and acquainted with the kitchen as you, Mom," Grey mused.

"Yeah," Sam said. "We want mom's baking to continue for generations to come!"

"Those muffins mom bakes are the best," Colt added. "I can just imagine tasting them now."

My eyes widened, realizing that the boys were trying to manipulate Luna Mary to spend time with me.

Would she go for it?

"Sounds good," Alpha Michael said, and he turned his attention to Luna Mary, taking her hand. "Would you consider teaching Kate what you know?"

"No, no," I tried to stop them. "Luna Mary must be very busy; she doesn't have the time."

"Nonsense!" Alpha Michael said, cutting me off, and giving me a warning glare. "Luna Mary lives in the kitchen."

Was the Alpha trying to get the Luna to accept me?

Everyone's gaze landed on Luna Mary's.

I was praying that she would refuse, not because I didn't want to learn, but because I knew how unhandy I was in the kitchen.

"Oh," Luna Mary was a bit shocked when she noticed everyone's attention was pinned on her. "You are serious?" She asked, startled.

"We are," Colt said, squeezing my hand under the table.

"Well, Mother," Grey said, gesturing at Sam. "If you were able to teach Mr. Knucklehead over there how to cook, surely you would be able to teach Kate. She is a much faster learner than Sam."

"We believe mothers are the perfect candidates to teach Kate," Sam mused. "You are the best teacher and cook around."

Luna Mary looked like a deer caught in headlights. She was unsure how to respond to all the flattery.

She took a moment to think about it, then swallowed hard, cleared her throat, and lifted her gaze.

"It would be an honor to teach Kate," she said, and my heart sank.

"Then it's settled," Alpha Michael said, taking his mate's hand and pecking a kiss on it.

I nodded with a nervous smile and turned toward Colt.

"What will you do if a fire breaks out?" I said, worried. "You know I am a disaster in the kitchen!"

"Are you that bad?" Luna Mary asked

I sighed and nodded.

"I am a warrior, not a cook," I said. "My mother knew I wasn't fit to be in the kitchen from a very young age."

"We already have a plan," Colt said, smiling.

"We will have the pack do a refresher on emergencies, just in case," Grey mused.

"I'll make sure there are enough fire extinguishers close by," Sam added.

"So, you don't need to worry," Colt said, chuckling amused. "I will have the fire marshals on standby just in case.

If only that was the only thing he needed to worry about...
