DAMIEN'S POV

The mood in the castle has gone south since Freda's missing, even with all my threats nobody has come up with anything tangible about her missing neither does anybody have an idea where she was.

With the hordes of guards that parade the castle, not a single one could tell me of her whereabouts. I had all the nobles interrogated and apparently, none of them as well had anything or knew anything about Freda missing.

Kara was broken, I still remember how I found her outside of my door, she was frightened and so was Christie. The whole castle was in search of my mate and because of that nobody had any rest, including me, sleep never came to me anymore and I didn't mind.

I was ready to tear down the walls of the castle to find her. I would shed blood if that was what it took to find her, I was ready to do anything to find Freda, I thought to myself as I headed for Elara, right now she was my last resort.

Her large gates opened as I made my way slowly into her territory, it was dark as usual and the only lights one could see were coming from lit candles and smoking chamber pots, potions laid scattered like she had been in search of something.

"Your Highness" I heard her say and I paused. I couldn't see her but she was seeing me.

"I am on my seat come," she said and with a snap of her fingers, the unlit candles were lit. I made my way to where she usually sat and I did not bother with greetings as I went straight to why I had sought her out.

"What makes you think that magic could her" she said after I had explained all my plot to her. I frowned, I was not in the mood to be messed with.

"Do as I say Elara, use your magic to find her, I would not have myself repeating this!" I said and she cackled, like an actual witch that she was, it was the first time I had heard her do that.

"Your Highness, I cannot do what you ask of me, it is a tedious task," she said and I got angry.

"I am your King, I command you," I said and she laughed. Elara got out of her seat and walked towards me, her eyes unwavering, I realized she was not going to help me.

"You are. Well yet to be crowned King your Highness, and that doesn't even matter at all but I can not help you twice" she said and my anger was replaced with confusion, what did she mean by she could not help me twice?

She read the confusion on my face immediately as she continued. "We made an oath, Your Majesty. Remember?"

I couldn't forget such an oath, but I didn't think Elara would bring it back at such a critical moment.

"We did make an oath and I am going to fulfill every promise. But first, we need to find Freda."

"No, Damien. First, you need to keep your promises" she snapped her fingers. "I have kept my side of the deal? Why not yours?"

"Elara…"

"Did you plan on deceiving me?"

"I would not do that."

"You want to follow in your father's footsteps. He made the same promise and never fulfilled it. Praise the spirits I sealed this with an oath and you know the consequences Damien" The candles in her room surged more fire as her anger was evident.

"I know the outcomes of the oath, Elara. But this is more important! I have to find my mate, she means everything to me. When I find Freda, you will be the first thing on my mind."

"No!" Her eyes widened. "My people meant everything to me too. My family died at the hands of Kyraxx. I have been lonely for decades, so yes Damien, forgive me if I do not wish for your happily ever after with your mate while I wallow in darkness."

I tried to speak but she wouldn't let me.

"I have been at Valthur long enough to be accepted, yet I am still seen as an outcast. I need my people, the few ones locked in Kyraxx"

"Elara…"

"No, Damien, LISTEN!"

I moved back when she charged me with her magic. I hardly saw her this furious and I knew she wasn't to be messed with. Freda meant everything to me at the moment and I understood the feeling of emptiness.

Elara had felt this for years and her anger was justified. I stood from the seat and moved to her door but it was locked, too strong enough to open, her magic hovered around it.

"Let it go," I said.

"We have to agree." She bellowed.

"I have nothing to say to you Elara, open the door!"

"You will die if you break your oath!"

"I am not going to break my oath Elara, I need to think about this. It's a big decision" I said. There was nothing to think about, how would I prioritize Elara before Freda?

I was going to find my mate on my own before deciding to help Elara. Freda was still in the kingdom and I would find her.

"I await your decision, but I keep to my words and oath. Finding Freda would be easy for me if you do as I say"

With words choking my throat, I barged out of Elara's coven speechless. She had the upper hand now and this was a challenging phase for me.

I walked back to the castle, the nobles tried speaking with me but I ignored everyone and dashed into my chamber. It was yet another day to keep my eyes wide open, smell Freda's clothes, break things out of frustration, and add more conditions to the people for finding Freda. None had been working effectively.

What is going on, Damien?
