Freda's pov.

"Why didn't you say anything when Beta Gerald challenged Damien to a fight, knowing fully well he could be killed?" I said to my father when we finally got the chance to talk.

"Gerald is nothing but a fool who was bound to get himself killed one way or the other. I thought it wouldn't be a crime to go in the same place his brother went, you stopped it," he said looking at me with an expression I had never seen before, was that pride? Was it astonishing? What was it? I asked myself.

"I was lucky Damien listened to me, it would have been a different story if he had not," I said, sighing. My legs were hurting from standing all day, I was tired and I needed to just disappear to a place where I could finally be at rest. All the drama from the past few days weighed on me. My father had questioned me yesterday on what happened to Lilly, I told him what Lily did but somehow had to sugarcoat what Damien did to her. I had no idea why I was protecting him.

"Well then it's a good thing he did" he paused "Sorry I could not get Kara to come, everybody can not be here and I know how much you missed her"

"Should have dropped Lilly for her," I muttered under my breath, but he heard me.

"Kara is not blood Freda b-"

"But she's family" I replied, "everybody that came with you wants to either have my head taken out or blame me for something I didn't do, nobody likes me," I said my voice breaking. I could not look at him, so I stared at my fingers. We were standing by the hallway close to where Damien was holding his meeting with the nobles. I had intended to join the meeting but I had to speak to my father first.

My father sighed; he didn't come close to me or try to comfort me because he knew this was all his fault; it was his fault I never got to live normally; it was his fault I was trapped in a life I did not want.

"The coronation ceremony approaches faster as we speak, I have made plans and understood the outlining of this castle. I am conversant with the outside, beyond these walls, you, on the other hand, should know by now the inner workings of this castle." He leaned closer like he didn't want anyone listening. "We need to know the arrangements for that day, we need to make sure everyone is too busy to take notice of you, and we need someone to do this with you. I haven't decided but if you know someone you can trust you let me know immediately, time is not on our side".

When he mentioned someone I could trust, my mind instinctively went to Christie. She was the only person in the castle I trusted, but that was a lie; she wasn't the only person I trusted; if I told Damien I wanted to leave, would he let me leave? Would he understand my need for freedom, I highly doubt that.

"I could just do this on my own; I don't know anybody in the castle who will run away with me," I replied. I wasn't putting Christie in danger if the plan failed and we got caught.

"You can, but what we need is security, do not forget you shall get crowned that day, you become a valuable asset and you need someone watching your back, I wish I could be this person myself b….." his words got drowned in my head as I stared behind him at the figure walking angrily towards our direction. It was Damien and he was pissed.

"Are you with me ?" I heard my dad say and I nodded. Lies, I wasn't with him, my focus was on Damien, he had not seen me, but as soon as his eyes landed on me the mood shifted, and the air sizzled. I could not tell if it was in my head or if even my father could notice the sudden change in the air. This man was mine. I thought to myself as I gawked openly at him.

He got to me and, with one arm, pushed my body close to his, his arm going around my waist, holding me in a tight grip as he bent his head to take my lips in a kiss. My dad had forgotten.

I kissed him back, pressing my chest to his. My hands left my side to his neck, but before I could wrap them around him, we were torn apart. Damien was shoved to the wall by my father, and my eyes flew wide open.

"Father! What are you doing?!" I asked, looking hysterical, Damien got up from the floor and shoved my father to the wall, pinning him down.

"Damien don't!" I said, going towards him. He turned to look me in the eyes before returning his gaze to my father.

"You werewolf, keep testing me; if you weren't her father, I would have taken your head off, don't know why I have been patient with your kind," he said, releasing my father from his grip, and he fell to the floor coughing. I rushed to his side.

"The next time you lay a finger on my daughter I promise you that would be the last time," my father said with menace in his eyes. Damien scoffed and walked away towards the direction of our chamber.

"Are you okay? Can you stand?" I asked my father and he nodded, rising to his feet like he wasn't on the ground a few seconds ago.

"You need to leave this place before he does something worse to you," he said and it was at the tip of my tongue to tell him Damien had done worse things than kiss me but I said nothing as I gave him a nod and excused myself. I needed to see Damien and I needed to see him now, something happened that put him in such a down mood and I wondered what it was.
