MATED TO THE VAMPIRE KING SON Chapter 111
Christie's POV
The castle was not what it seemed anymore from the moment Freda disappeared. I always knew Williams was up to something but I never realized it was this big, since I overheard him and the former king talk I had been watching him, following him around, trying to gather what I could so that if I did survive by the time Damien returns I could tell him about the happenings in the kingdom.
I was bored, I realized too late that Freda was the only reason I had something worth doing in the castle. I roamed the halls looking for something to do when I noticed the nobles tripping one after the other into the castle and they all went in the direction of the throne room.
Something was wrong, I remember thinking to myself as I followed the last person who was Lady Daphne. She had a weird look on her face that confirmed my suspicion, Williams called for the meeting obviously, and I stood behind the door wondering what the meeting this time was about.
The large door closed but not fully, I could still see their faces from the way the table was arranged, I looked around trying to make sure there was no guard around that could put me in further trouble, everybody has been different and on their toes. I can't blame them, we were all scared of Williams and his new authority.
I looked around through the small space by the door, and I saw Williams sitting on the throne like he owned it, something hit me, the throne had never fit anyone except Damien, he filled the space like he was meant to remain in that seat, and looking at Williams casually sitting on the throne was laughable, he looked nothing like Damien.
"Why did you call this meeting?"
"More like he threatened us to attend this meeting!" Lady Daphne said countering Duke Magnus's words and it made me smile, the duke was too quiet and it could be annoying.
"As you all know, Damien is out on a fruitless hunt for his queen blah blah, I have decided to take charge of the kingdom.." he took pause ".. I am guessing this was how Damien did it when he killed my brother and immediately took claim of the throne," he said with a snicker and I felt embarrassed on his behalf.
"What are you talking about?" Marques Theo said, he looked really angry and it was a surprise.
"Join me, let's make this kingdom better together, you all don't like my nephew so no need to pretend, I see your scornful gaze on him anytime he calls for a meeting so I can tell that there's hate for him amongst you"
"You're wrong," Duke Magnus said. "He's a young king and sometimes makes decisions that don't sit well with us but that doesn't mean we hate him, hate is a strong word Williams, and I have seen what you have been trying to do around the castle, making people choose between you and Damien and then sending the ones that refused to choose to the dungeons, well don't think that tackless tactics will work on us, we are loyal to the crown, one you don't possess so we owe you nothing"
I had never been more proud of Duke Magnus in my life than I was at this point, I looked at Williams's face and oh it looked like he was going to burst into tears and I wished he did but unfortunately, he didn't, he just stood up and clapped his hands together as Duke Magnus had just performed.
"It is good that you know what I do to people who do not wish to join me, the crown would be mine soon that's not an issue, the issue now is who wants to go to the dungeon and who wants to remain a Lord"
He asked, the room was silent until Lord Balen raised his hands, the nobles had a shocked looks on their faces but I didn't, I wasn't surprised since he was in on it all along, it was just a pity that the rest of the Lords didn't know the length he went through to betray the crown.
"Lord Balen, what is this?" Marques Theo said and he got up from his seat.
"I have accepted to join Williams a long time" he uttered and the Lords grew more shocked "My daughter Verestina would be crowned queen, and I would be raised to a higher rank, but I assure you all that each of you would be well taken care of, all you have to do is join Williams, he would make a fine king, he's older and has more knowledge than Damien since he's been King his priorities has never been the crown but that his so-called half breed, he defiled this kingdom by bringing in the werewolves, they are our source of food, we don't mingle we rule! Williams is going to bring that back, bring back the old times when we were in more authority, please join us"
The room was silent, lady Daphne had her mouth hung open, and some of the Lord which I couldn't see well just looked lost, and most of all they were angry and Williams could sense that.
"This isn't even up for a debate, you have no choice. I have the emblem of the throne that the king had given me. You are all aware a royal must give you one to be qualified."
"Damien has his emblem with him, where did you get yours?"
"It's the king's real one. He handed it over."
"The King is dead."
"He handed it over before he died. I just didn't speak about it."
They all fell silent.
"I know you must think that my nephew will return and reclaim the throne, but you are wrong because he's not coming back, trust me I already made sure of that, this kingdom is now under my jurisdiction, under my command! So it's me or the dungeon make your choice, until then this meeting is over" he said and walked away with Lord Balen running after him. His words about Damien not returning left a bitter taste in my mouth, what did he mean? He couldn't possibly mean he was already dead did he? Till I left where I was hiding all I could think about was if Damien was fine, he had to be fine, if he wasn't we were all doomed.
