Damien's pov

Trying to have a conversation with Freda proved futile. Most times, she had no clue how different I was from her. It was useless asking her obvious harmless question if it was going to make her get all defensive - a beautiful trait but a useless one for a queen.

I walked my way down to the dining area with the hopes of still meeting my uncle at the table. Well, he was voraciously devouring everything he could touch and I chuckled. He never seemed to stop being a source of amusement for me.

"I assure you if you don't take one  at a time you are going to throw the contents of your stomach on my fine dining ware, and it's going to be a hassle for the servant trying to scrub out puke from the dishes.."

"You can just throw them out, why bother with them? " he interrupted my sentence. I smiled because he was right.

"Well, now I have the power to make you clean them yourself if you do spoil my dining ware," I pushed further, enjoying taunting him.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw him smile and I knew there was no disagreement between us.

The moment I settled down to eat, a maid rushed to my side, picked up a plate, and dished out the food on the table. I sank into my seat and watched her, enjoying the silence in the room, which didn't last anyway.

"The tray earlier, who was it for?" Kieran asked and I frowned at his curiosity. I could tell him here and now about Freda but something didn't permit me to spill, so I shrugged my shoulders and acted like I had no clue what he was talking about.

"What tray?" I asked as the maid set my plate down for me to eat, I would have preferred the idea of eating with my mate than eating here with Uncle Keiran.

"You know well what I speak off, the servant took a tray up to your chambers, I thought it was your dinner until I heard you walk down here. If it were your meal you wouldn't be joining me for another so definitely it wasn't yours. So who is it"

"Perhaps you didn't see the content of the tray well"

"Then why were they headed up to your chambers a-"

"Uncle Keiran, my workers going up to my room shouldn't be any concern of yours. Eat your meal in silence or ask me something more important," I finally got him to close his mouth.

I could tell he was displeased with how I spoke but he had no choice but to listen, he was my uncle but I was his king.

He cleared his throat and I knew he was going to do the exact opposite of eating in silence. I braced myself for the next question.

"What about my brother? Is he perhaps dead already?" He said, slowing down on his meal.

"I don't seem to care which is it but I doubt he's dead," I mumbled while eating my meal and trying not to think of Freda getting cozy with the maid. But perhaps, maybe I chose right and she likes Christie.

"Your resolve is brutal. I am still a bit surprised you killed Steve, he's always been a brat and I never did like him. No offense, but he wasn't my favorite" he snickered and I kept on eating, showing no reaction to his mockery.

It was no longer new, the whole kingdom had already heard about what I did to attain the throne. It was long coming anyway so it didn't matter.

"How is the planning for the coronation coming up?" Uncle Keiran's eyes met mine, cleaning the side of his mouth with a dishcloth.

"I have given the affairs to the Lords, they shall plan the coronation ceremony and I shall be crowned…"

"King…I know, but what about food? Certainly, you don't expect us to eat meat too during an important celebration, I don't see blood on this dining table surely there would be blood to drink to my fill on that day" His eyes glowed red showing how much he enjoyed the little he took from the maidservant yesterday and wanted more.

"There is always blood Uncle Keiran and the finest would be served that day so they shall know what kind of enjoyment was to come with me as their new king," My shoulders raised in pride. 

"I thought you never fancied the throne," He stared at me with amusement in his eyes. He might be old but his senses were quite keen to tell that I was hiding something. 

Well, not hiding per se…because I care less who wanted to know about the uncontrollable urge I had to get the throne when I saw my mate. 

"I never did, not until I discovered my brother and father were going to get rid of me once they got all the powers from the werewolves needed to make Steve stronger than me. As if anything could ever make Steve stronger than me. He was a wimp and a pest on the battleground" I was done with my meal now and the maid rushed to clear the table even without my signal, adjusting the dishcloth on my lap. 

I watched Uncle Kieran carefully, trying to study his reaction to my indictment of his brother and nephew's swindle.

"Hmmm, not surprised, guess he'd have to watch from his grave and your father from his prison when they crown you king." His reaction, however, amused me. "I have come from far and I do hope I get to see beautiful women at this ceremony," I chuckled. Damn our promiscuous nature, but our kingdom never lacked beautiful women for it to even stop.

"As always uncle, bountiful women to select from. It is a celebration, after all, the choice to do whatever is yours Keiran," Testing the waters by calling out his name without any form of courtesy.

Looked like the thought of women clouded his head because he didn't react, and I smiled. Just when I thought the conversation was over and I could get up and head to my chambers he brought up Andros.

"What about your father's right-hand man, Andros, I don't see how he'd follow your rule without giving you any problem " 

"Well Andros was a problem, and I hate problems so I took care of it," I said, picturing the tears in his eyes when I sliced his head off.

"Meaning you had him killed," My uncle let out and I smirked.

"Having him killed is me being merciful. I had to make an example out of him, needed them to see what happens to anybody that defiles me or speaks out of turn. They needed to realize and accept I was their new King whether they liked that fact or not?" People refusing to accept the idea of a new reign upset me. How much longer do I have to go through this announcement?

"So now you are without a right-hand man," he muttered and it dawned on me. 

I haven't given that much thought. I was going to need a right-hand man myself, someone trustworthy of my affairs. The court was still against me, could this be any harder?

"Unfortunately I believe so, and if I am going to be in search of a right-hand man I cannot make use of any man from my father's cabinet. I need to dismember his cabinet and select people of my choice. I do not trust men who have seen me duel and threaten the life of their king to work without hate under me," 

"I don't have any affairs that I oversee. I am strong and surely trustworthy. I am your only family member who is in support of you thereby having your interest at heart"

"What do you intend to say, Uncle," I asked trying to sound like I didn't know where he was heading. He wasn't wrong. It would be much easier to pick Uncle Keiran as my right-hand man. 

He was strong and had never had an eye for the throne. That should deem him trustworthy enough for the title. I did not speak and rather remained silent waiting for him to come out straight with what he was proposing.

"You're no fool, Damien, you know what I speak of. Make me your right-hand man, at least until you find someone more worthy," he smirked and I returned the smile.

"Hmmm," I rubbed my temple. "My right-hand man, you do know all my respect for you goes out the window once this is decided," I had to let him know what he was getting into. The respect I had for him as my father's brother would be gone. He would be under my command and authority and would never make decisions without my approval. 

"When have you ever respected me" he grimly said.

"There is no one fitter to be my right-hand man than you are, Keiran".
