MATED TO THE VAMPIRE KING SON Chapter 59
Freda's Pov
Damien held my hand inside out, which took me by surprise. "Who are we going to see?" I asked him. Even Elara whom he regarded as important came into my room. Now he permitted me to go out to see someone. And he was even all, ...touchy.
The last time I walked the palace halls was when I came in here with my father. It seemed brighter than my chamber. Damien being a vampire loved the dark and I didn't mind so much. His ruby eyes even glistened better in the dark.
"We would be having dinner…" he said.
"I had dinner with Christie already." I cut in.
"Just pretend to eat if you're full" he responded and we walked further. "Did you say you ate with Christie?" He asked, seeming to just recollect my statement.
"I meant, Christie served me my dinner."
"If you cannot bear pushing down more food, signal to me and I'll end the dinner," he said and I nodded.
I clutched my hand with his suddenly, and he turned to look at me but ended up giving me a satisfactory smile. We approached the dining area and I saw a man sitting with his gaze fixed on me. His eyes never left me till Damien pulled out a seat for me.
After Damien had sat, he cleared his throat. "Uncle Kieran, meet Freda, my mate."
Uncle? His father's brother? The father he killed? Wouldn't the uncle be aggressive about that?
"Your mate?" Uncle Kieran's eyes shot up. He gazed at me again. "You have a beautiful mate here, Your Highness"
"Thank you, Uncle Kieran" I responded. Damien looked at me as if he did not approve of that and I shut my lips hard.
"I thought I would keep the introduction till coronation, but since you seemed curious. Here you go, your Queen to be"Damien uttered.
"Where did you find this one? The blood club like you found Verestina."
"Uncle…" Damien's voice sent a hint of warning.
Uncle Kieran raised his hands in surrender. "Calm your horses, Damien. You've never been so defensive"
"Freda is a calm and reserved girl. I would not tolerate you talking about infidelity in front of her."
"No, Uncle Kieran" I interrupted Damien. "I want to know about the blood club and Verestina too. I know she's irate, met her once, but Damien wouldn't tell me anything about himself yet"
One of Damien's brow arched as he looked at me. "You've never said you wanted to know anything about me." He frowned.
"You never gave me the chance to ask," I responded. His gaze didn't leave mine for a long time, I regretted I must have spat wrong.
Uncle Kieran laughed to ease or mar the tension. "If you and Damien are yet to know each other. Where did he meet you then? You do not seem like the blood club type. Did he get you from the Chapel?"
"Worse.." I said, eating a steak to just seem busy. "Our meeting was not a…usual one"
"Uncle Kieran. You seem so interested in how I met my mate. Why is this of special interest to you?"
"Because I do not believe you, Damien. I know you. You rather have hundreds of women than be committed to one."
"Freda…satisfies me. There is no one I'd rather be committed to"
He made my heart race, yet again. My gaze shifted from his face to his lips. Satisfy him? Whatever he meant by that.
"How gentle have you turned him to?" Uncle Damien taunted me again. "I see he hasn't claimed you yet? The Damien I know wouldn't wait for the coronation to do that"
"Kieran. Do you perhaps, need to visit the blood club? I see you are hungry for blood-sulking vamps to satisfy your hormones."
"You're right. Freda is beautiful, I wonder if she has sisters as beautiful as she is."
"You're an old man, Freda is too young for you" Damien retorted.
Uncle Kieran snickered. "Coming from a 100-year-old vampire, that is very bold."
I looked at perfect Damien. Not for once have I ever thought of his age because of how good he looked. But, this man had lived for a hundred years and more, long before I was born. His rage was understandable and so was his wisdom for royal affairs.
As his mate, I questioned myself. Was he someone I wanna spend the rest of my life with? Yes, something inside me answered. I knew it was just the longing desires I felt when I was beside him.
Would this man let me be free? I knew he cared and he did listen to some little suggestions I threw in. But as they say, in marriage his decisions now mattered.
"This must be overwhelming for you, Freda" Uncle Kieran said again. "Being a queen suddenly. Having all this power, ruling nations, coming into such wealth."
"It is indeed overwhelming, Uncle. But I like it" I said and I saw a small smile on the corner of Damien's lips. "I like being around Damien and I trust his decisions," I said.
"That's a great way of qualifying for a Queen. Trusting the King and his decisions." He drank a cup of wine. "How then did you feel about his decision to slay his brother and lock his father…" Kieran said.
"Enough!" Damien screeched and the room became tense. "You will not say a single word again, Kieran!" He warned his Uncle, who nonchalantly raised his hands in submission again.
We all started to eat silently as I thought of his uncle's words. How do I tell him that my father was also locked up in the prison of the man I wanted to marry?
"I lost my appetite" Damien noisily pushed his plates from the table. "Let's go, Freda" he ordered.
I jumped off from the seat and immediately followed him behind before he breathed another word. As we walked further, he stopped and turned to me, his eyes burning.
"Why did you entertain such questions?"
"I…i"
"You're a queen. You do not need anyone to like you as long I do!"
"Damien, calm your horses" I increased my tone.
"Goodness. You've learned his words."
"No, I…" I moved closer to him. "There's no need to get all protective Damien" I placed my hand on his chest feeling his raging heartbeat.
Was this why he locked me in the chamber? Because he didn't want others to talk to me? Or because he hadn't trusted my decision to become Queen?
"I satisfy you…you said." Our gap closed and my body could touch his. "How?" I asked him.
He looked down at my lips and nibbled closer. "For simply existing, Freda."
Our heartbeats intertwined, bearing at the same time. I wanted him. It was that bad. I silently prayed this wouldn't ruin my escape plan. Would I stay, only for the mate bond?
Damien suddenly pulled away from me. An unusual thing to do if he was that close to me. "You said I didn't give you the chance to know about me. Tell me, what do you want to know?" He asked, walking into the chamber.
A smile curled my lips. He would let me know him now? That's an improvement.
"For a start, you're 100 years old?" I asked.
"Is that a surprise? I am one of the youngest. How much do werewolves age compared to vampires?"
"Well, wolves can go 70 and some a hundred. I am 18" I said.
"I know. You behave like one."
I laughed heartedly. "I want to take that as a compliment, Damien."
