MATED TO THE VAMPIRE KING SON Chapter 112
Freda's pov
It was days after my epic fail at the cafe, we had been living quite well but it didn't stop me from bothering about our welfare. My mother kept saying she had everything under control, it wasn't like I didn't believe her I just needed more assurance.
Today I awoke late in the afternoon and decided I was going to have a little chat with my mother. I was going to stylishly ask her questions about the past. I wanted to know how she coped with everything, my father leaving and taking me with him.
"Mom!" I called her out of her room, it was evening already and we might as well use the disguise of making dinner to talk. It wouldn't look suspicious I thought to myself as I called her out one more time and she came out cleaning her face, she smelled like pipe and wood, and I was pretty sure she had been smoking.
"Hey" she greeted me with a smile and I forced one out. I loved her but she has bad habits that I wasn't even sure how to describe.
"Sorry, looked like you were sleeping," I said trying to sound apologetic, she smiled at me again and my heart paused for a while, she was so lovely.
"I wasn't sleeping, just resting, I see it's time for dinner," she said, staring at the things I had placed on the counter to make dinner. I smiled and nodded as she made her way towards the kitchen.
"I was thinking we could, you know, talk, while we cooked," I said, coming right out with it, looking like she was in such a jolly mood. I heard the cigars helped put one in a mood of ease if she wasn't crying. She was smoking or drinking, neither of which is good but she was a much calmer person after a smoke.
"Sure we can, what do we want to talk about, I know you have questions brewing in your head that you wanna ask, so just go ahead and ask them, I'd answer truthfully," she said with a sad smile on her face and my heart broke, I tried not to ask any questions because it looked like the answers were going to hurt but I needed to understand her.
"I don't have much or anything to ask, we can just have normal conversations, like uhh how have you been, what was it like before I arrived" I asked, she was silent as she took out a pan and a knife, it felt like I had asked something I shouldn't have which I know I didn't so I remained quiet waiting for her to speak.
"I don't want to lie to you Freda, but I don't think you're ready for what I wanna say," she said sadly and I felt the need to hug her but I remained seated.
"Try me," I said and she sighed.
"When I was chased out of the kingdom by the elders. I had waited outside the border for a few days for your father to come to see me as I knew not what to do. He didn't come."
"I then left to the human world in search of a new life. I could not go back to my parent's house because they warned me thoroughly about Winston but I didn't listen. Winston had promised that he would do anything to make the elders accept me fully as his wife and mate forever, but he broke his promise when he accepted Amelia back into his house."
"I was hurt, broken. I had no one to explain to, they made me mad. I missed you everyday and I missed Wisnton too. There was no letter, no way to reach out to you. I thought you were all happy with my absence."
I interrupted her as I sprinkled some salt into the food I was making. "I miss you also Mother, please don't ever think that. I asked about you every day, I cried myself to sleep all night. I asked Father about you. Amelia didn't make it easier either"
My mother continued.
"I eventually got a place to stay. The rent was okay and I had a job, but soon my new boss started to make things harder for me and I had to leave."
"I stayed with a friend for a while, but her husband made advances toward me and I didn't want my friend to think I was going to betray her, so I left."
"Things became harder from then. I then sent your father a letter, but only after a month, I suddenly received a letter from your father. It was one of the happiest days. He sent me a lot of money, sent me drawings you made, and told me you were fine. He apologized for everything and promised to reach out often."
"I settled my bills with some money and had the best time of my life. Everyone who knew me was asking why I was happy and I told them that my family was fine and that was enough."
"Months passed and the letters I sent to your father were not returned. I went back into my shell, taking drinking and smoking as a facade for my pain"
"I got used to it…got addicted, went into a lot of debts that I couldn't come out from. My life is a mess, Freda. Without you and your father."
My eyes were tart and that was because she had already started to cry. I squeezed her hands in mine. "I'm sorry, mother."
"No, no. I'm sorry I left. I should have fought harder with them."
"It's not your fault, " I sobbed. She pulled me into a tight hug and we remained like that for some moment. "If father wanted you back? Would you accept him?" I asked her and silence fell in the kit
chen with the only sound of boiling liquid heard.
