MATED TO THE VAMPIRE KING SON Chapter 85
Freda's POV.
I didn't utter a word as we walked in silence to the meeting room. I wondered what it was that he was eager to show me. What goods did he obtain to cut me off from my satisfaction? These questions started to fill my head as I fought to get rid of them.
"Relax, Freda; it's just a gift," he said, pausing. Could he tell I was not relaxed?
"But you won't tell me what it is, " I said pouting, and he chuckled.
"It is not so much of a surprise gift if I tell you then," he said and I understood but I couldn't stop trying to guess what it was.
"Don't worry, you would love this gift" he said kissing my forehead. I immediately wanted it to be my lips so I raised my head, and without saying anything he took my mouth, kissing me like he was ready to rip my clothes off and take me in the hallway.
My mind drifted to our moment not long ago.
"Where did your mind go" I heard him say, and it was then I realized he had stopped kissing me. I blushed and he chuckled.
"Naughty girl," he said and I blushed even harder. We resumed walking and the guards outside the meeting room greeted us before opening the door, down the corner of the room I saw a shadow, it was very much feminine, was it a new maid? I asked myself.
The closer we got to the shadow the more my heartbeat increased and I had no idea why it began beating that fast.
"I know how much stress you have been under lately and I know I am not so much fun to talk with but I brought you somebody that I hope can make you feel better," he said and the body turned, my heart pounded loudly as the figure turned.
Kara.
"Kara?!" I questioned like I wasn't staring at her. I found it to be untrue that she was standing there.
"Is this some kind of powers vampires have and-"
"It's me, you dumb sucker," she said, and before I even realized it my hands were in the air as I ran to hug her. I had missed her. Do many tears streaked down my face.
I was not just crying because she was here I was crying because Damien thought of me, he did this to make me happy. I opened my eyes to look at him while still hugging Kara and I mouthed the words 'Thank you'. He smiled at me sweetly and I swear I saw love in his eyes and my heart sank.
"I shall leave you two to get together and do whatever it is girls do. I would be down the hall if you need me," he said and turned to walk away.
"No way that is your man!" Kara said and I giggled, we sure had a lot to talk about. I squint the corner of my eye giving her a signal to let Damien leave completely first, as I was certain his ears were quick.
"I'm gonna cry." I pouted. "I cannot believe you're here" I held her hands. I didn't care if we looked like playful teenagers. I missed my best friend and Damien was right, she was the solution to this loneliness.
As we reached my chamber, I pulled her up and hugged her again, spinning her around. "Kara. You have grown" I said, admiring her new body type.
"It's barely been two months, stop" she laughed falling into my bed. "Freda, look at you, living in a castle, having such a hot lass, being the Queen to be, and…your skin…radiant, Freda"
I fell on the bed beside her as both our gaze met the high ceilings of my room. "A life I have always wished for indeed Kara" I sighed.
"I came to rescue you," she said. I sprang up, sitting in the bed and facing Kara who was still lying down.
What did she mean by that?
"I know you're not okay, Freda," she said. "If you were, you would have reached out to me or invited me to this beautiful life you have. Something must be wrong somewhere"
"Yeah…" I muttered, breathing in.
"Licita's death gave me the first clue. I knew you weren't safe with the vampires. What did they do with you? Is it him? Your mate?"
"Kara…my mate, Damien, he…" I didn't know how to explain it to her. Damien was the cause and solution to my problems, but did that even make sense?
"If he hurt you, I swear I would stand with the werewolves in the war between the vampires."
"Relax, Kara…he didn't hurt me. I think." I rolled my eyes at my incredulity. "He loves me, but he is keeping me."
"Or locking you?" She sprang up from the bed.
"He wants my safety… that's what he said."
"Is that what you want?" She looked into my eyes. I knew Kara could see through me. She knew what I wanted, no matter how I tried to cover Damien up, she knew there was still a whole somewhere left to be filled.
"I want to escape," I said, standing up from the bed. "He means so much to me…but I just need to go. I need to be free, from all these wars and disagreements" I paced the room. "His people do not like me, my people also. How can the two kingdoms be united under our reign? How does this work?"
"Freda…"
"I do not want to be queen. I just want to be with Damien, in a faraway place. Where he is just like me, no vampire no superpowers."
"So how do you want this? Freda you know I would support you in everything you do."
"I.." As I began to speak, a knock sounded on the door, Christie asked if she could come in and I accepted. She brought in food as usual beaming with a smile.
"I see the Queen has a guest" she muttered bowing her head in greetings to Kara.
"Kara, meet Christie." I walked over to Kara wrapping my hand around her neck. "Christie, meet my best friend" I kissed her on the cheek.
"Nice to meet you, Lady Kara. Queen Freda has mentioned a lot about you."
"Mm. Has she?" Freda arched her brows and we both laughed when I rolled my eyes.
"Christie had been my safe space since my arrival here" I mentioned. "She's a friend."
"Thank you for taking good care of Freda, Christie."
Christie nodded with a warm smile, serving food on the little table. "The Queen is vibrant now that you're here. It is so nice to meet you." She took her seat on the bedside beside Kara.
Kara smiled, but after a short silence, she signed me the uncomfortable feeling with her facial expressions and then I remembered we were discussing something before Christie came in.
I could tell Christie anything, but nothing about my escape, for her safety, and for the risk of Damien finding out before time.
"Christie, can you come back some moments later? Kara and I have some catching up to do." I said and her countenance shifted.
