MATED TO THE VAMPIRE KING SON Chapter 58

Freda's Pov.

I was escorted by the palace guards to the chamber after Damien left. Getting to my room, I fell flat on the bed, reminiscing about the information my dad gave me.

I was not only pleased that he agreed I could escape from Damien, but talking about my mum warmed my heart. I got to ask more questions about her.

The torture I faced as an Alpha's wolfless daughter almost made me forget about how special my mum was. When she was still with me, she protected me from the bullying in the pack. But after she left, I felt deserted.

But now, her memories with me were unlocking once again. Her good deeds were all coming back and my father was right, she was the best person I could escape to. I began to imagine if she missed me or wanted to see me. I wanted to ask if she ever asked about me for the last six years she left.

Damien had promised never to leave me alone, but I didn't want to be in his confinement.

There was no time to think about all that. All I needed to know was how to escape. I had thought about the pros and cons of involving Christie in my escape.

I wouldn't tell her I was leaving. Otherwise, if Damien found out she was involved in my escape. He might cut off her throat. I would only ask her some questions that pertained to the palace rooms.

A soft knock on the door announced Christie's presence with her usual trolley of food in the room. I raised my head from the bed to see her warm countenance.

"Such a surprise to see you smile Christie" I matched her vigor.

"Your Majesty, your food. I prepared it" she beamed again. "This was the first time I was permitted to make a food…technically not authorized. It was my form of punishment. Lady Agatha punished me to make your food so that when you complained, the king would be upset with me, but when I tasted it, It was good, Your Majesty"

"Surely?"

"Surely, Your Majesty" A giggle escaped her lips. I sauntered toward her trolley and took a bite of the grilled salmon. It indeed was smoky and buttery, savoring the flavor.

"Shall I inform the King to ensure you make my dish? My tongue is on fire, I might eat every hour."

Her cheeks reddened as she blushed. "You flatter me, Your Highness"

I laughed. "Come, sit and eat with me," I said.

After several compliments and jokes about the food and Lady Agatha. I had to throw the question to her. "Christie, you once mentioned you were born in this palace. Surely you know your way around."

"Definitely. Every corner, Your Highness."

"I do want to know too. As the Queen to be, it would be unfair not to know the castle."

"You do not have to worry about that. When you are crowned Queen, you will be shown around for a whole week"

"I do not want to wait till then. Damien will be especially impressed that I am fast to learn these little things."

"Well, what do you want to know?"

"Which room has the best view?"

"The balcony in the east wing, you can see the whole city!"

"How do I find the library?" I started with the simple, most unsuspecting questions. Christie trusted me and I did the same. Things will be easier for me this way. I was glad Damien chose her for me.

"Second floor, west wing. You can't miss it!" She inhaled.

"You're a lover of books too?" She nodded like a lizard. "My best friend used to tease me saying she didn't see why humans loved novels. I guess it is truly a hybrid thing."

She packed our plates back into the trolley and I searched my mind for more questions. "Are there any secret rooms or hidden passages?" I asked, hoping her suspicions were not raised. Well, it was,

"What for, Your Highness? Why do you need such Information?"

"Just a book thing. I have always wanted to ask."

"Rumors. Just old stories. Even if there were, I haven't seen anything like that. Maybe Madam Agatha might. She has been here longer and well you know, she is of authority, unlike me."

"Where is the servant room? Where do you all stay"

"Basement level, near the kitchen."

"I have never been there" I muttered. "I have never been anywhere."

"You don't have to be sad about it. The King chooses to protect you. In no time, you will be all over this castle when you are crowned Queen"

"Are there any shortcuts between wings?"

"Well, there's a servant staircase near the kitchen. It's faster…but not neat"

"Are there any alarms or traps?"

"Just the usual locks and bolts. The guards work efficiently, so there is no need for traps except when there's a war." She paused. "You ask so many questions, your majesty. Are you planning to run off on your coronation?" She asked.

My heart skipped, but I nervously laughed. "What sort of accusation is that, Christie?" I frowned.

"I apologize. I was just teasing. I know you cannot do that ma. As a hybrid, this is a life-changing opportunity for you. I am sure you like this treatment and how King Damien treats you. You're so lucky" she said.

"Yes. I am" I responded quietly.

"I'll take my leave, My Queen. Please reach me when you need anything."

"I will, Christie. Thank you so much for the help."

As she left the room. I tried to keep the description and image of all she said in my memory. It would be of use at the right time. If I wrote it, Damien might see it.

If there was any way to keep him unaware, I would do it. I would be nice, loving, or strict if needed before the mate bond pushes me to do more.

"Freda…" the door opened abruptly. Damien walked in with his kingly Aura. "I might need you to meet someone…in the dining area"

My mouth went agape. Not only was meeting a guest surprising, but leaving my chambers for something other than seeing my father?… Damien has started becoming nice.
