While others seek survival, I engage in flirtation Chapter 46: The New Member of the Camp
"So, you really don't need my help?" I asked, watching their red faces as they struggled to haul a massive log back to camp.
Moving these logs was a piece of cake for me; honestly, they could've just let me handle it.
But nope, they turned me down every single time, so all I could do was stand there and watch. This made our camp construction drag on forever.
A few days later, as I watched the girls slowly move the logs, someone suddenly burst out of the nearby bushes.
His face was twisted with terror, and the moment he saw me, tears started streaming down his face.
I was a bit taken aback; it was Matt.
I stared at this sobbing guy in front of me, feeling a bit dazed.
Was this the same Matt who once tried to rob me and even fought me?
"What happened to you?" I asked, surprised. I never liked Matt. Even if he begged on his knees, I probably wouldn't help him.
But this time was different.
His followers were all gone, and two of them had died right outside my house.
"Please save me!" Matt was in a panic, "Two people around me have already died!"
His fear was real.
"Two people died? What happened?" As soon as I heard that two people had died, I immediately thought of the two people I had buried.
"One day I went to pick coconuts, and when I came back, I saw two bodies lying at the entrance of the cave," he said, clutching his head in pain as if he had remembered something.
"And the other two?" From his description, the two men Matt mentioned shouldn't be the ones I buried.
After all, the other two had died right outside our house!
Matt said he didn't know what happened to them; they left the camp a few days ago and never came back. I guess he still didn't know they were dead.
Everyone in the camp had silently agreed not to mention those two people again.
"Can I stay with you? I promise I won't cause any trouble!" Matt showed a humble side for the first time.
How ridiculous!
"So what have you been doing these days?" I looked down at him, scrutinizing and questioning.
After all, it was four lives; how could he talk about it so lightly!
"How should I know? I didn't kill them!" he retorted, trying once more to sneak into our camp.
"Stop right there!" I grabbed his wrist, making him cry out in pain.
"Did I say you could come in?" I glared at him, and he almost knelt down in fear.
I didn't really want him in our camp, but thinking about what happened to Assad and Abbott's camp, I agreed.
Their camp had at least twenty people and still couldn't escape; our camp only had a few people, and besides me, they were all girls.
We desperately needed more manpower, so I had to take in anyone I could.
Otherwise, when the freak attacked, we wouldn't even have the ability to resist.
"You can stay," I suddenly let go of Matt's wrist, and he fell to the ground due to inertia, "but you can't go into the cave."
Matt's face fell instantly, but he didn't dare say anything and reluctantly agreed.
"What about me? Can I stay?" A clear female voice sounded behind me.
I was startled and quickly turned around, only to see a girl sitting on the fence!
Was I hallucinating? How did she get on the fence? I didn't even hear a sound.
She wore a white long dress and soft shoes, her silver hair cascading down, and held a thin booklet in her hand.
At first glance, this girl reminded people of the ethereal quality of moonlight. Her features weren't particularly striking, but they were harmonious and gave a gentle impression.
I opened my mouth, not knowing how to respond to her.
"Matt? You know them, right?" She probably saw me stunned and laughed a few times before turning to Matt.
Matt nodded and then pointed at me to introduce me to the girl.
"He's Carl Smith, my classmate," he said weakly. For some reason, Matt looked so listless in front of such a beautiful girl!
"Hi, I'm Moon Carter." Moon extended her hand and winked at me.
Out of politeness, I immediately shook her hand, while Matt kept giving me meaningful looks from the side.
"You should keep your distance from her! I think she's weird!" Matt whispered as he leaned in. It was rare for Matt to describe a beautiful girl like this.
He continued, "When we encountered wolves a few days ago, she disappeared... You can't just fall for a pretty face!"
I felt surreal hearing these words from Matt.
It didn't sound like something Matt would say.
"How credible are your words?" I laughed and turned back into the camp.
After bringing a few girls into the cave, I reached out to help Moon, but she shook her head.
"You mean I have to get on this stone platform?" She pointed to a platform over a person high.
I nodded at her.
Moon kept smiling, then took a pen from her pocket.
She wrote a few strokes on the paper and then placed her hand on the platform.
Moon appeared to do nothing, yet it was as if she floated effortlessly, rising slowly from the ground and then lightly alighting on the stone platform.
Honestly, she didn't seem like an ordinary person; she looked more like an angel.
Her movements were unfathomable. If she jumped onto the platform, her actions were too gentle.
But if she flew onto the platform... how could a normal human do that!
Just from this, I could tell that Moon was definitely not an ordinary person.
Judging by Matt's attitude towards her and me, I could guess that he had been with this woman recently.
Entering the camp, I introduced her to the camp members.
"This is Aimee, this is Margaret... She's Moon," Every time a new member joined the camp, I introduced them.
"Hi, I'm Moon Carter," she warmly greeted the girls, "I'm a writer."
Her smile felt a bit unnatural to me. I guessed her profession, but I didn't understand why she emphasized being a writer on this island.
What use was that?
Matt was still waving frantically from the open space outside the camp, wanting me to let him into the cave.
