I gripped a short knife, nudging Matt to lead the way, with Moon and Lilian trailing behind, cautiously feeling our way forward.

If this really was the hideout of those weirdos, there had to be traps set up around here. I wasn't too worried about getting hurt, but Moon and Lilian probably didn't have any self-healing powers.

On this island, where medicine and medical facilities were super scarce, wound infections were a nightmare.

Luckily, the journey was smooth, and we made it to the house without any trouble.

The house wasn't as well-built as we thought. The walls were pretty regular, but the windows were all crooked.

The so-called main door was just a few wooden boards slapped together.

I had Matt move those heavy boards aside, checked for any danger inside, and then we walked in.

"Oh my God! What is all this?" Lilian and Moon followed behind, occasionally making disgusted sounds.

Dennis didn't say anything, but his face showed how grossed out he was.

Honestly, if I were them, I'd probably be making those sounds too.

It was filthy in here! The floor was covered in dust, the window frames and steps were caked in it, and the air was so thick with dust that it was hard to see.

It looked like no one had lived here for ages.

We walked down the corridor, with lots of similar-sized rooms on both sides. Different serial numbers were posted on the doors, and the rooms were separated by iron plates. It looked like a prison.

The rooms had basic facilities, with simple cushion beds and a pipe.

The pipe seemed to be for delivering supplies to whatever was locked in the rooms.

We slowly moved forward, checking out the surroundings, when suddenly we heard a metallic clanging sound.

Then, the sound got sharp and piercing, echoing through the building.

Honestly, my eardrums were about to burst! I had no idea where the sound was coming from!

"What is that sound?" Lilian seemed more sensitive to it, immediately frowning, covering her ears, and squatting down.

I looked around but couldn't find the source of the sound.

The sound gradually stopped, and I relaxed a bit before moving forward again.

For some reason, I kept an eye on Moon. She didn't seem too bothered by the sound, just slightly frowning when she heard it.

Her reaction surprised me. Not many people could stay as calm as she did with that noise.

We kept going and reached the end of the corridor, where there was a staircase leading to the next floor.

The layout of the second floor was almost the same as the first, except the rooms were more spacious and looked sturdier.

From what we knew about the "Red Nightingale" experiment group, these two floors should be holding some animals.

The first floor had small and medium-sized animals, while the second floor had larger or more aggressive ones.

Like the Ratufa bicolor we saw in the woods, or wolves and bears, they should all be held here.

There wasn't much special about the second floor, except it was covered in bloodstains.

Not just inside the cells, but even the stairs had faint traces of being wiped clean.

Was there a fierce fight or a massacre here?

I was pretty puzzled by this, but without more evidence to back up my guess, we could only keep going, trying to piece together the hidden truth from these clues.

Everything was just too strange.

Who would've thought a building like this was hidden here? We still had no idea what secrets were buried in this place.

We moved up to the next floor. The top floor was different from the other two. There were no rooms; the entire third floor was completely open. Looking around, we could see rows of cement stone platforms lining the floor, with a black metal pillar in the corner.

"This place looks so weird," Lilian said, immediately covering her nose and stepping back.

For us, the existence of this building was already a shock. And now, there were things we couldn't even begin to understand.

These stone platforms were empty, with only patches of bloodstains and faint scratch marks.

"What are these stone platforms for?" Dennis bravely walked to the edge of one, touched it twice, and only got a handful of dust.

It was the same here; it seemed like no one had taken care of it for a long time.

We walked around this floor, and besides these two features, we didn't find any useful resources or information.

"This must have been a lab," Moon said calmly, propping herself up on a stone platform and lightly jumping up to sit on it. "These stone platforms were probably used to place experimental subjects."

She touched the stone platform and then lay down on it. She fit perfectly, the size and width almost tailored for humans.

Before coming here, I just thought this building was out of place in the woods. But now, I felt the fear.

The moment Moon lay down, I seemed to see the "experimental subjects" struggling on the stone platform before.

The bloodstains almost splattered onto the ceiling. It was hard to imagine what kind of treatment the "experimental subjects" here had suffered.

"Do you want to lie down for a while?" Moon turned to her side, her eyes on me.

I immediately shook my head. I didn't want to lie on a stone platform where people might have died. I wasn't an experimental subject!

There was no more info on the stone platform, so my eyes fell on the metal pillar in the corner. But I squatted there and looked at it for a long time, without figuring out what it was for.

Suddenly, the pillar seemed to be triggered by something and made the same piercing sound we heard earlier.

The moment the sound started, I immediately covered my ears and opened my mouth to minimize the damage to my eardrums.

But hearing the sound so close, I still felt something sticky flowing out of my ears. I touched it and found my hand covered in blood.

Luckily, I was the only one near the metal pillar. If Lilian and Moon had heard the sound this close, their ears would probably be deaf.

We stayed put for a long time before the sound gradually faded.

My ears buzzed for a long time before my hearing came back. All thanks to my strong recovery ability now.
