While others seek survival, I engage in flirtation Chapter 48: Morning with Ivy
Back then, I was dead set on kicking Matt out. No way was I gonna let him ogle the girls in my camp.
I noticed it the moment he showed up. His eyes kept wandering to the girls. Who knows what kind of dirty thoughts he had?
As night fell, the girls and I were getting ready to crash.
I was poking at the firewood by the campfire when I saw Moon scribbling something.
She was sitting in a dark spot, and the firelight didn't reach her notebook. She couldn't even see what she was writing, but she kept at it, totally focused.
Moon was always a mystery to me, and I never knew where to start with her.
She was too mysterious. No one knew when she got to the island, and no one saw her jet ski.
The next morning, I woke up to find everyone, including Moon, still asleep except for Ivy, who was on night watch.
"You're up early," Ivy said with a smile when she saw me awake, then patted the stone next to her, signaling me to sit down.
When I first rescued her, I knew Ivy was mature and that she knew how to use her advantages.
So I never worried about her.
"Thanks for taking care of us," she suddenly said.
I was a bit flattered. After her sudden kiss, I even felt a bit nervous just looking at her face.
Hearing Ivy thank me, I was even more at a loss for how to respond.
"It's nothing," I said, trying to play it cool.
"You've done a lot for the camp, and now we even have a writer," she said, glancing at Moon.
I just shook my head.
Honestly, I didn't feel tired taking care of them. If anything, I felt a sense of accomplishment.
I enjoyed their dependence on me and didn't want them to rely on anyone else.
"I never thought taking care of you was hard," I smiled at her, trying to ease her pressure.
We had been together for almost two months by then, and I understood her emotions well.
Ivy only showed this expression when she was under a lot of pressure.
The last time I saw it was when she talked about the shipwreck.
Usually, she was optimistic, but when she looked like that, she needed comfort.
I gently put my arm around her shoulder, trying to help her relax.
She turned her face and gently kissed my cheek.
"Do you remember the question I asked you before?" Her lips were right by my ear, her breath lightly falling on my ear.
"Can we still leave here?" I repeated her question, "We will definitely leave this place."
I promised her confidently, but she only responded with a smile.
"I suddenly feel that not leaving this island isn't so bad," she leaned gently on my shoulder and slowly closed her eyes.
What was Ivy doing? Was she confessing to me? Was my ideal girlfriend confessing to me?
I couldn't help but swallow and turned to Ivy.
Her skin seemed tanned but still glowed. Her cheeks were always clean and smooth, making one want to caress them.
Ivy was very elegant, different from other women, and full of charm in every gesture.
I loved being with her because she made me feel relaxed.
But I didn't expect Ivy to say something like this.
Among us, she was the one who most wanted to return to real life; after all, everything about her was so glamorous.
She was a famous actress, beautiful, tall, and gentle.
Such a person was really wasted on this deserted island.
"Why? You're a famous actress," I spread my hands, showing my confusion.
Unexpectedly, Ivy suddenly laughed loudly. "My life isn't as good as you think."
She talked a lot about her life, from when she first started, couldn't make money, worked tirelessly day and night, and had to do odd jobs to make ends meet, to becoming a star and having to watch her every move.
She seemed to live a really exhausting life.
And me? My real life was already a train wreck.
No skills, no good looks, and definitely no knack for learning.
Everything about me screamed "average."
If anyone didn't want to go back to real life, it should be me.
Here, I could do almost anything... but what could I do back in the real world?
I stopped thinking about all that depressing stuff and closed my eyes, soaking in the moment of peace.
But that peace didn't last long, thanks to that jerk Matt.
He suddenly started yelling in the camp, waking everyone up.
"What are you doing!" I snapped, annoyed that he ruined my perfect moment.
Hearing Matt's voice, Ivy immediately sat up and stopped leaning on me.
I looked over and saw him standing in front of a pile of dry grass and firewood.
"I've prepared all the firewood for today!" Matt announced, looking all proud of himself. When I let him stay in the camp, he promised to do all the dirty and tiring work.
I didn't expect him to actually follow through.
The camp got some free labor! I had hesitated a long time before letting him stay, but it turned out to be worth it.
The big plus was that I could take Charlie to the freaks' place again to track them down.
I fed Charlie some meat and organs and cooked veggies for him. With balanced nutrition and a strong body, he could help me track prey better.
After eating, I left the camp with Charlie.
I also told Lilian to keep an eye on Matt and make sure he didn't try anything funny with the girls.
As for Moon, she kept scribbling in her notebook.
We tracked all the way to Matt's old camp, which was still clean and tidy.
This confirmed my suspicion that the freaks were still living here and using this place to move around the island.
I let Charlie circle the camp a few times. After making sure he remembered the freaks' scent, we started running.
Charlie ran fast, his smooth fur flying in the wind, looking majestic.
We followed the scent to a rocky beach, the end of the forest, with towering rocks and scattered stones.
There were no shelters on the beach, and we could see the freaks from the forest line.
But we couldn't just charge in. Once we left the forest's cover, we'd be exposed, leading to a fight.
If possible, I didn't want to fight them. These freaks could unleash more strength than ordinary people by instinct.
Most importantly, some of these freaks were still conscious. They could work together and set traps.
Now, I had no backup, and besides the short knife in my hand, I had no other weapons. If they attacked me together, I'd be in big trouble.
I carefully circled the forest, trying to get a closer look at these freaks. Suddenly, they looked in my direction and then bolted.
Did they spot me?
I didn't care if they did and immediately chased after them with the short knife. Charlie followed but stopped halfway, looking at me confused.
I knew Charlie meant the scent he just smelled suddenly disappeared.
These freaks probably hid underground again.
"Damn it!" I threw the short knife on the ground and quickly picked it up, not wanting to attract freaks or wolves.
But now we had lost the target, and Charlie and I had to head back to the camp.
Even though this tracking didn't give us any big breakthroughs, it did show me another area where these freaks hang out.
Tracking them on the rocky beach would be way easier than in the forest!
Next time, I'm gonna deal with this hidden danger for good!
