"Just focus and you'll see. Oh, by the way, there's a wolf right behind you." Her voice was so calm, like she was just mentioning a rabbit hopping by. But saying something that freaky in such a chill tone was seriously creepy.

It was nighttime, and we had no fire or light. Moon hadn't made a fire or even a torch. Running into a wolf now was a nightmare. We couldn't see a thing, but those creepy green eyes of the wolf could see everything.

"Really?" I turned around, not believing it, and instantly heard the wolf breathing. It was so close I could smell its nasty breath.

Moon wasn't kidding, and I quickly trusted her. The wolf was probably right in front of me. I took a couple of steps back to get away from it, but then I saw Lilian, frozen in fear. I had to go back and drag her away.

The wolf's breathing was still right there as it got closer. I wanted to back off but bumped into a pair of warm, soft hands.

Then, Moon's voice came from behind me. "Don't worry, I'll help you." The hands gently pushed me, almost towards the wolf.

The next second, the wolf's roar was in my ears, nearly deafening me.

A ringing filled my ears, and I felt something warm. My ear was probably bleeding.

"Carl! Carl!" The ringing lasted about ten seconds before I could hear it again. Lilian and Moon were calling my name.

"Carl! Wake up!" Moon's figure appeared as she shouted.

She suddenly darted from my side, grabbed my arm, and pulled me away. She left a red mark on my arm.

The clouds started to clear, and I could see better. A strong wolf with silver fur stood in front of me.

It looked tougher than other wolves, but it had a nasty scar over one eye, and that eye was completely gone.

But in this situation, I had a slightly better chance. The wolf's remaining eye was locked on me, full of rage.

I had no choice but to get ready to fight. I stared at the wolf, spreading my arms to provoke it. It got mad and charged at me.

Its front paws hit my shoulders, knocking me down. Its bloody fangs were right at my throat.

Just as it was about to bite, a figure flashed beside me. "Don't just lie there!" Lilian threw herself onto the wolf, wrapping her arms around its neck.

Her arms weren't strong, and even though she gave it her all, she couldn't fully restrain the powerful wolf.

At that moment, I snapped back to reality and kicked the wolf in the stomach.

Even a strong wolf has a weak spot in its belly. With my newfound strength, the kick sent the wolf flying. It crashed into a nearby tree and then fell heavily to the ground. But it didn't hurt much; it quickly got up, shook its fur, and started growling again.

Before this, I hadn't noticed anything weird about the creatures on this island, but now I realized something was off.

Since we got here, we kept running into wolves, usually in pairs or trios. These bigger wolves, though, always showed up alone, which was super strange.

I remembered reading somewhere that wolves are pack animals, and they hunt with some serious strategy.

But on this island, their behavior was all wrong. They hunted in small groups, and sometimes a lone wolf would go solo. Something was definitely up.

I got back on my feet, ready for the wolf's next move. Wolves are smart. After getting kicked in the stomach, it was cautious, not moving forward or backward.

In the dim light, I could barely see the ground. Every second that passed made me more tired, and the wolf would have an easier time spotting my weaknesses.

In this situation, if the hungry wolf found a chance to attack me again or go after the other two girls, we'd be in big trouble.

I wasn't sure I could take down the wolf. But I figured Moon wouldn't get caught by it. I glanced back at Moon, who had pulled out a notebook and was jotting something down.

Then she walked over and picked up the knife the wolf had knocked out of my hand.

"Mind if I borrow this?" she said casually, then grabbed it.

The knife wasn't light, and even someone like Abbott would struggle with it. I was shocked that Moon, who looked so delicate, could lift and swing it so easily.

Moon must have a secret; otherwise, I couldn't imagine how her frail body could handle my knife!

I was stunned by what I saw. I quickly got up to help, but what I witnessed was beyond my imagination.

Moon had my knife, and her movements with it looked more like a dance with the wolf than an attack!

Her slender figure was graceful, and the knife seemed to have a mind of its own, always cutting into the wolf's skin at just the right moment.

The wolf howled in pain but still lunged at Moon. She held the knife, sidestepped slightly, and the blade slashed across the wolf's neck.

Honestly, I never thought Moon was so formidable. I couldn't believe that such a delicate girl had more strength than me!

"Carl! Are you okay?" The wolf's movements slowed, and blood gushed from its neck. Lilian must have seen this and ran to my side to check on me. Luckily, my injuries weren't serious, and the wounds healed quickly.

The wolf stopped attacking us. It seemed to fear the knife in Moon's hand, retreating while watching her. It looked like it recognized the knife.

Moon held the knife, walking step by step towards the wolf. The fear in the wolf's eyes became more apparent, and then it turned and ran away.
