While others seek survival, I engage in flirtation Chapter 56: Break
But after just a few steps, the wolf suddenly crumpled to the ground. Its fur was drenched in blood, and it was barely breathing.
I walked up to it, and it immediately bared its teeth and growled at me. It was seriously hurt and couldn't move, but it still tried to scare me off.
Just when I thought it was done for, it suddenly lunged at me, using its last bit of strength to snap at my ankle.
"Watch out!" Before I could even react, Lilian's knife was already buried in the wolf's neck, and it finally went still.
The wolf's fur shimmered in the morning sun. If we weren't stuck on this deserted island, that fur would be worth a fortune. But we didn't have time to think about that now; the sky was getting lighter, and we needed to head deeper.
We dragged the wolf to the side and packed up our remaining gear. We didn't have much food left, just enough for a day or two.
"Let's get some food first," Moon said, glancing at me and pointing to a nearby thicket. "There should be plenty of berries there."
I nodded immediately and then took Matt into the forest.
Sometimes I really wondered if Moon had some unknown ability. She said there were edible berries here, and we actually found blueberries and raspberries.
"What's the deal with Moon?" I kicked Matt, who was picking raspberries. "Didn't you meet her first when she got to the island?"
Matt just shook his head, looking unsure of how to explain. "When I met her, she was already on the beach," Matt shrugged. "I didn't see the jet ski she mentioned. When I asked her where she came from, she just said she didn't know." Matt's answer made me even more suspicious. Didn't she say at the camp that she came on a jet ski? Why was she telling Matt she didn't know?
But I didn't push it. Matt was busy collecting berries under my watchful eye.
As I picked blueberries from the bushes and put them into a leaf-made pouch, I kept thinking about Moon.
Honestly, she had too many mysteries. Her unnaturally beautiful face, her silver hair, her inconsistent memories, and the notebook she carried. All of these made me feel strange. Besides, the most concerning thing was her extraordinary strength and combat skills.
But no matter how much I thought about it, I couldn't find the answers. It seemed the only way was to ask Moon directly.
We returned to the camp with the collected berries, and the two girls were sitting on the edge of the cliff, swinging their legs and chatting. The scene made me incredibly anxious. Weren't they afraid of falling?
"That's too dangerous! Lilian, Moon!" I quickly walked over, scooped them up—one in each arm—and brought them back to the campfire.
Lilian and Moon just chuckled softly, not mentioning their previous conversation.
But my hearing had gotten better, and as I walked over, I caught snippets of what they were saying.
If I wasn't mistaken, they were talking about me. I even heard words like "abs" and "body."
I took out the berries we had collected and handed them out to everyone, including the two strange people we had tied up. At first, they were wary, but as soon as we walked away, they devoured the food like they hadn't eaten in days.
"Is it safe to take them deeper with us? And our food is running out," Lilian said, looking worried as she glanced at the empty backpack.
Given our situation, it seemed we couldn't go deeper. Our supplies were already running low, and now we had two deranged people with us. The best choice now was to return to the camp.
"Let's go back," Moon said, looking at me and then at Lilian before standing up and dusting herself off.
No one argued; we all just packed our bags and got ready to head back to camp. We tied up the strange people with ropes and dragged them along.
Along the way, these two tried to escape multiple times but failed.
When we got back to the camp, I locked them up with the sheep, and they finally stopped struggling.
"Carl! Are you okay? You're not hurt, are you?" Margaret always hugged me excitedly whenever she saw me return. She seemed to care a lot about me.
I immediately opened my arms for her to check. Although my body wouldn't get hurt, I couldn't let down Margaret's concern.
She circled around me, confirming I was fine before hugging me. "You must be exhausted, Carl! I'm so glad you're okay," she said.
I had gotten used to her concern for me, so I just waved it off without much response.
The other girls quickly gathered around, excitedly asking about the past few days.
Fortunately, Lilian was always concise, explaining everything that had happened in a few sentences.
"Oh my god! So you guys caught those two strange people!"
"And you encountered such a big wolf!" The girls' faces were full of shock.
They didn't expect us to survive in such an environment. Originally, the other girls thought Matt would be used as a shield and left in the canyon. But even he made it back alive!
By the time we returned to the camp, it was already evening, and the entire camp was bathed in a red glow. After dinner, we organized the remaining supplies and began to study the two strange people.
These two seemed crazy, and it would be difficult to get any information from them.
I thought they might be like Mary the last time she was captured, reduced to just animal instincts.
"Do you remember your name?" I asked Mary, but she only made a dull sound.
"She can't speak anymore, and she doesn't understand what you're saying," Moon said, suddenly standing behind me.
My reaction and perception were better than most, but for some reason, Moon's sudden appearance always startled me.
