Chapter 28 - Oysters

The next morning, Angelo and Camille went to her apartment to pack things up for Camille to join us. I was standing on the little balcony overlooking the garden, which was teeming with so many little birds. I wondered if this is where birds went for the winter months when they flew south for the winter.

Warm tingles emanated around my waist as Lukas snaked his arms around me. I felt his warm lips kiss my neck and he stood for a while just breathing me in. We had argued about the potion last night, there's no reason to wait for it if we're never going to use it.

My stubborn Alpha mate still insists we wait for it. He distracted me with erotic pleasures into the early morning hours and we had slept in this morning recovering. I bit him several times on the neck but wasn't able to permanently mark him without Storm's canines. He had a pretty good sized hickey, which didn't last long. It frustrated both Storm and I, not being able to mark him.

"This is our last day in New Orleans, is there anything special you want to do today?" He asked me.

"Can we start with breakfast or lunch downstairs?" I asked, I wasn't sure what time it was.

"We can have anything you want. There's so much to do in the city. New Orleans has wonderful museums, including the National World War Two museum. Or maybe you prefer the haunted mansion tour? There's also a steamboat jazz and dinner cruise."

I could tell he was trying to keep me distracted about picking up the potion from Magnus tonight. We got dressed and went downstairs to eat. It was almost noon and lunch was being served. We walked into the dining hall and a familiar scent filled my nose.

"There they are!" Luna Raven squealed as she tried to wrap her arms around Lukas and I at the same time.

"Luna, Alpha, how good it is to see you." I smiled.

"Not as good as it is to see that mark on your neck." She beamed.

"Leave the kids alone. Come, sit. We've only just arrived." Alpha Dimitri said.

We sat down and order our lunch. Alpha Dimitri explained that they had a difficult time hunting down the grand warlock in Toronto, named Ezra. He seemed to be completely missing, his house staff and apprentices fear he may have been murdered. Though no corpse has been found, there has also been no traces of his magic around.

"What do you mean traces?" Lukas asked.

"Not only does magic leave a trail behind, but usually there's a trace of the witch or warlock that cast the magic. Almost like our scent being left behind, a witch has an individual brand of magic or scent that lingers in their work." Luna Raven explained.

"Magnus couldn't tell who cast the spell on me. How could he not sense it?" I told them,

"You found Magnus?" Alpha Dimitri asked.

Lukas explained the events that transpired yesterday from visiting Camille's pack, to the rogue attack and finding Magnus. He explained the potion and the transfer of the curse. How it worked and his plan to pick it up, just in case we ever needed it. Both of his parents seemed to tense up at the idea of anyone having to transfer the curse.

"Your grandfather also spoke with Alpha Trevor and he recommends that you travel to Blue Mountain pack as soon as possible. He believes the one who cast the spell may be trying to track Syble, now that she's come of age. Apparently there's much that Alpha Trevor needs to explain, and we need to get you there safely." Luna Raven told us.

"Son, I don't think that rogue attack in the swamp was just coincidental. We need to get that potion and get out of here tonight. I'll have the jet on standby." Alpha Dimitri said.

"But Magnus won't be ready until after ten o'clock tonight." Lukas said.

"Then we'll leave first thing in the morning." He replied.

We ate lunch and Lukas filled them in on Angelo's new mate. He also told them about the midnight trip to the cemetery and my usage of element on the boat.

"That's amazing." Luna Raven said.

"I knew she could do it." Alpha Dimitri smiled.

"I have no idea how I really did it and am looking forward to really developing my gift." I told Alpha Dimitri.

"So, what's the plan for today?" Luna Raven asked.

"We hadn't really planned anything past lunch. New Orleans has a big beautiful city park with lots of great live oak trees or maybe a museum." Lukas told her.

"I don't think the park is a good idea. It will make you vulnerable being out in the open." Alpha Dimitri said.

"There's a wonderful day spa on Canal Street, perhaps my new daughter in-law, would like to spend the day getting pampered with me?" Luna Raven asked.

"Great idea. We'll have the car drop you off and Lukas can accompany me on an errand I need to run. I also want to have some Louisiana oysters before we leave." Alpha Dimitri said.

"Is that okay with you? Or would you like me to come with you to the spa?" Lukas mind linked me.

"Do you need your toenails painted?" I replied back through the link with a smile on my face. "I'll be fine with your mother."

He leaned over and kissed me on the forehead, "sassy little mouse, aren't you?" He whispered.

We were greeted with refreshing chilled glasses of cucumber water at the spa. This place was very fancy and had a serene feeling inside. I stood quietly as the Luna ordered the works for us.

"Good afternoon, I'm Yip, and I'll be your day spa service coordinator today. Now, what shall we get started with?"

"My daughter and I would like to start with manicures, pedicures, then facials, followed by mud bath, mineral scrub, herbal wrap and full body massages." She smiled and handed a black card to the beautiful Asian looking woman named Yip.

"Yip?" Storm snickered. "I Yip all the time."

"Behave yourself." I whispered to Storm.

"Follow me ladies." She led us down the hall and to a room with big luxurious pedicure spa chairs. "This is Yolanda and Priya, they will be attending to your fingers and toes." She introduced us and we were quickly seated. The bubbling foot spa felt wonderful and Yolanda added more salts in the water.

"Shall I have snacks served during your treatment?" Priya asked.

"Thank you, we've just had lunch, but maybe later." I smiled.

I enjoyed my conversation with Luna Raven, though we had to be careful of the words we said since we were in a human spa. She told me about Greece, the lovely sights and ancient ruins. She told me wonderful stories about Lukas and his siblings.

Lukas had twin sisters, one was living in Italy and the other in Spain with their "husbands" which I assume is code for mates. She told me how they were "married into very large successful families," which I'm sure meant packs. I wasn't certain where Lukas planned to settle down, but I couldn't wait to see his home and where he grew up.

I sat watching Yolanda shellac my fingernails, a memory suddenly floated through my mind of my mother painting my nails when I was little. I don't know where the memory came from or if it was real, but it sure felt vivid and real. My mother was a beautiful and kind woman, I could almost hear her laugh.

"Syble?" Luna Raven called to me. "Syble are you okay?" She asked.

"I'm fine. I was just lost in a memory." I smiled.

After our nails were done, we were moved into separate mud rooms. I undressed and slipped into the beautiful porcelain standalone tub that was filled with mud. The room was lit with candles and wall sconces.

"Is this mud from the swamp?" Storm teased.

I closed my eyes and listened to the tranquil music playing in the room. Tomorrow we'll be at Blue Mountain and hopefully Alpha Trevor could help my situation. I felt a warm hand on my shoulder and stirred awake. I had fallen asleep in the mud bath.

After I rinsed off, I found myself on a cushioned table getting a mineral body scrub and an herbal wrap after. I rested on the table all wrapped up while another technician gave me a facial. Another hour later, I stood in the shower and washed off.

I was still in the spa robe and was led into another room for the final treatment which was a full body massage.

"I could get used to this." Storm purred.

After the massage I felt so relaxed, I could have easily slept for days. I got dressed and met Luna Raven in the front hall, she also looked relaxed and refreshed. She held up two paper bags full of spa products and handed one to me.

"I got us some goodies to take home." She smiled.

"Thank you so much."

"You're very welcome. Now, we're just around the corner from the French quarter. Our mates are meeting us at a restaurant that specializes in chargrilled Louisiana oysters. It's a couple of blocks down Bourbon Street, we can walk."

"Sounds great, I'm famished." Storm said to me.

We left the spa and walked two blocks up Canal Street then turned down Dauphine Street. The sun was nearly set, and the quaint cast iron streetlamps lit the streets.

"Let's see, I think Bourbon is the next street over. Shouldn't be that hard to find the oyster restaurant. I love New Orleans this time of year, the weather is perfect, and the humidity is low. All we need is a nice breeze this evening."

"I can manage a gentle breeze." I smiled and willed the wind to blow in our direction as we continued to walk.

"Do you smell that?" Luna asked me.

"Smell what?"

"Rogues. Make the wind blow in our direction from behind us. I think we're being followed." She said and I kept the wind blowing at our backs so that our scents couldn't be picked up by someone behind us.

"Look normal and keep walking." She said as a silver fire hydrant burst open a block behind us and caused chaos. We quickly turned a corner and broke into a sprint. I could hear commotion behind us and noticed two grungy looking men running towards us.

"We've got company." I said and imagined gusting winds slowing them down. I looked up to find a man on a balcony trying to light a cigar and the flame from his lighter wouldn't stay lit. All of the sudden a wild ball of flames shot from the lighter and hit one of the rogues, setting his head on fire. The other rogue stopped and tried to help his friend extinguish the fire. Luna Raven had good aim with her elements.

We turned left and walked along Bourbon Street, which is the busiest street in the French quarter. With all the people walking from bar to bar and the shadows of the night, it would be hard for them to scent us or do anything. I wasn't sure where we were going and started to wonder if we were lost.

"Let me see if I can spot the restaurant from here." Luna Raven said as she wrapped her hands around a cast iron streetlamp that held a Bourbon Street marker on it and pulled herself up for a better view.

"Do you see it?" I asked.

"Yes, It's one block back. But we should cross the street because the rogues are walking this way." She said and jumped down. We crossed the street and tried to hide alongside a small group of young partygoers.

"This restaurant better be worth it." Storm yapped.

We moved quickly and the rogues didn't seem to notice us on the other side of the street, walking quick and dodging them. I noticed the now bald and singed head of the rogue who got burnt. I wondered what was so important that they would still continue to stalk after us, and why?

"Here it is!" Raven pulled the door open. "Hurry, I hear heavy footsteps running in our direction."

We walked down a dim hallway and I could hear the loud music. The room opened up into a bar. A bar with pole dancers and naked women crawling on a stage. The big sign behind the bar read "The Moister Oyster."

"I don't think they serve food here." Storm snickered at me.

I looked at Luna Raven who stood wide eyed and shocked for a moment. Then I heard a familiar voice behind us.

"See something you like?" Alpha Dimitri walked up behind Luna Raven. "Hmmm, this feels familiar. Seems I have a punishment to deliver to a naughty little wolf." He smiled.
