Healing His Broken Luna.... Chapter 123
Chapter 36 - Midnight
They returned from their run an hour later with smiles on their faces. My heart smiled seeing them in good spirits. We sat around the fire waiting for midnight.
Lukas would need to step outside and take the potion under the full moon at midnight. No one was sure what to expect, if it would be painful or not. If it would really work and if Storm would finally be able to shift tonight. No one was leaving, they wanted to make sure everything was okay and be here to help Storm with her shift.
I was seated on Lukas' lap and listened while Alpha Dimitri shared funny stories from Lukas and Angelo's childhood. He told us more about the pack in Greece and the other family packs. Then he made baby name suggestions.
"Five minutes to midnight." Angelo announced and my heart fluttered.
"Storm, are you ready?" I asked her but she didn't reply. I could feel her tension.
We made our way outside and everyone looked up at the sky. It was a clear and beautiful night. My eyes instantly landed on the big W in the sky, which is Lukas' favorite constellation. The moon was full, and I silently said a prayer to the Moon Goddess. Lukas cupped my face and gazed into my eyes before he kissed me.
"I love you, I love Storm and I love our pup. There's nothing I wouldn't do to keep you safe." He told me and quickly drank the contents of the small purple vial.
"Well, do you feel any different?" Angelo asked.
"Nothing. How about you Syble?"
"Nothing. Should I try to shift?" I asked.
"Close your eyes and focus on your wolf." Alpha Dimitri said.
Several loud howls broke out across the land and growls could be heard coming from the woods. The sound of fighting seemed to be getting closer to us and Alpha Dimitri shifted on the spot. A fierce looking Dom stood on high alert and sniffed the air.
"Rogues, he smells rogues." Luna Raven said and also shifted.
"You should take Syble inside, it sounds like it's getting closer." Angelo said but Lukas sat down on a big boulder, he looked a little pale.
"Are you okay?" I asked feeling scared.
"I'll be fine, I just need to sit for a moment." He said.
Several rogues ran towards us and Alpha Dimitri let out a thunderous growl as he jumped on them. Luna Raven started applying water bubbles and drowning a few rogues. Angelo and Camille shifted and also joined the fighting at the tree line. The timing of a rogue attack, after midnight, just as Lukas took the potion was alarming. This wasn't a coincidence.
"Lukas, can you stand up? We need to get inside." I told him.
"There's a lighter in my pocket, get it out for my mother." He said and his breathing was getting a little heavy.
"Okay, just relax. It doesn't look like there's that many rogues." I said and lit the lighter. Luna Raven immediately took the flame and stared blasting rogue after rogue.
I heard Angelo's wolf, Arlo, let out a loud yelp as four rogues jumped on him. Then I saw an angry Cami dig her claws right into a rogue's eye sockets that dared attack her mate. Alpha Dimitri continued to tear through the rouges with Luna Raven by his side. If Jaxon was dead, why were the rogue's still attacking. Maybe they weren't here for me but something else? Something just didn't make sense.
"Lukas, please, tell me how to help you?" I asked as I ran my hand across his forehead. I looked to the woods, ready to call Luna Raven for help.
That's when I saw him. He stepped out of the woods and walked towards us. The distinguished looking man, in his late forties with sparkling green eyes we met in New Orleans. The grand warlock named Magnus. Something about him, wearing a dark cloak looked so familiar to me.
"Ah, Magnus. Good timing, something doesn't feel right." Lukas said.
"Good timing indeed!" Magnus said.
"Did you bring the transfer potion for my Uncle?" Lukas asked.
"Uncle? Now there's an interesting word." He looked at me and his vivid green eyes almost seemed emerald. EMERALD!
"IT WAS YOU! You were in the woods, you carried me back." Visions flooded through me. "Who are you?"
"I am the son of the grand warlock Ezra, and a she wolf named Rosie Sinclair."
"You're, You're ... My uncle?" I asked.
"My sister, Marissa was born with the werewolf gene and I was born a warlock like our father. My father was not welcome amongst wolves, so our parents were forced to split apart because of some filthy Alpha. Instead of leaving this dog park and staying with my father, she decided to stay here and raise Marissa in the pack. She picked the flea infested dogs over us."
"Did you curse me?" I asked and he laughed.
"I cursed all of you. My mother, my sister and you. I found out that my father, had managed to break the curse on my mother and my sister. Can you believe that old fool still loved her? When you turned eighteen, he was planning to break the curse on you too. So, I did the only thing I could when I learned of his betrayal." He smiled. "I killed him."
"Why would you do such a thing?"
"Because I hate wolves. Because she picked Marissa over me. Because you're her daughter. Once you showed up in Little Italy, Katrina told me you were coming to New Orleans for my help. Even that halfwitted Alpha Jaxon failed and couldn't manage to stop a wolfless girl with his rogues."
"You were working with Jaxon. That's how he knew we had come back to Blue Mountain." Lukas managed to say.
"Did you give my mate a binding curse too?" I asked.
"No, he gave me poison." Lukas said as he started struggling to breath.
Lukas was sweating and his breathing became strenuous. I dropped to my knees next him. "Lukas, are you okay? Hang in there please!" Storm was howling in my head as she felt her mate slipping away.
"Please don't do this to me. I've done nothing to you." I pleaded with Magnus.
"I'm afraid it's too late." He smiled.
"Please, Please, I've done nothing to you. Magnus, please don't do this." I cried and he turned to leave.
"Wait!" I called out.
"Is this the part where you offer me anything I want?" He turned around with a malicious look on his face. There was nothing he really wanted. He was a monster. He had killed his own father and cursed his entire family. Now he was trying to take my mate from me.
"Kill him." Storm howled at me. "Maybe if you kill him, it could break his spells." She said. This actaully made sense and if I was going to save Lukas, I needed to move quick.
I stood up and took a few steps closer to him. I needed to kill him and kill him fast. With a deep breath in, I imagined all the air leaving his lungs. He hunched over and gasped as he tried to suck air in. I didn't have time to make him suffer, I just needed him dead so I could return to my mate. If Magnus walked off into the night, I may never find him again. I continued pulling the air out, and he continued to try to suck air in.
Recognition dawned on him as his face turned red and he looked at me. He reached for me and I stepped back avoiding any contact with him. I took another long deep breath and he fell on his hands and knees. I breathed in again and he made gurgling sounds of struggle.
"You're going to die on all fours like the dog that you really are." I said and sucked in the final breath as Magnus twitched around.
I rushed back to my mate who was laying on the floor also gasping for air, I tried to will the air into his lungs, but the poison was working fast.
"Y-You did wonderful." He tried to smile.
"Please, tell me what to do?" I cradled his head and he looked up to the heavens.
"Lukas, please, stay with me. Stay with me. Don't leave me." I begged.
"Cass, Cassiopeia ... so, so... beautiful." He whisper as his eyes closed for the last time.
"No. Please. Lukas, No."
Alpha Dimitri and Luna Raven returned, their wolves both let out painful howls as they felt the bond breaking. Angelo's wolf stood behind me howling at the moon. Storm was howling in my head and the pain in my chest was too much. He had risked everything for me, for our pup.
I dropped on all fours and felt a fire burn inside of me. My joints started cracking and my bones shifted around. A scream ripped from me and I nearly passed out. I opened my eyes and realized I was standing on all four paws. I looked down and saw my legs, they were covered in silver shiny fur.
Killing Magnus had broken the curse. Storm was free. We sniffed our mates' neck and he was still laying lifeless. Poison was something that couldn't be undone. Storm licked his face and let out pain filled whimpers. We were left broken. Storm stood over our mate, lifted her head to the heavens and howled with grief into the night.
