Healing His Broken Luna.... Chapter 117
Chapter 30 - Memories
Lukas POV
Beta Finn was kind enough to show us to our suite and our luggage had already been brought up. I pulled the covers back on the bed and set Syble down. I removed her shoes and pulled her jeans off. She laid back on the pillows and I covered her up.
"Can I get you anything?" I asked her.
She shook her head but made no noise. I could feel the distress coming from her and her thoughts were swirling around. I closed the curtains, then undressed and slipped into bed with her, pulling her to my chest. Her little body started shaking, as she sobbed. All I could do was offer my comfort. Luke was howling seeing his mate in so much pain.
"It's okay Luke," she managed to whisper. "It's going to be okay."
She never ceases to amaze me, here she is, in so much pain and she's trying to comfort my wolf. Luke was trying his hardest to take control, he craved her affection and attention too.
"You can release Luke." She said.
"You want me to let him have control?" I asked. If I gave full control to Luke, he might run off to Sapphire Moon and kill Alpha Jaxon and Alpha James before sunrise.
"Can you shift? Please."
"Right here in this bed? Luke is too big for the bed and I don't think Alpha Trevor will appreciate all the fur." I told her.
"How about over here, on the floor next to the bed. I want to see Luke." She said.
"Okay." I told her. I didn't want to say no to anything when she was feeling so vulnerable. I stood on the floor between the fireplace and the bed, pulling down my boxers. "You just want to see my butt, don't you?" I winked at her.
I reminded Luke to stay calm because we're indoors and to please be gentle with her. I closed my eyes and a few seconds later, I was standing on all four paws. Before I knew what happened, Syble jumped out of bed and threw her arms around Luke's neck. Hugging him and crying. He let out a low whine and nuzzled his head back into hers.
She let go and started stroking his head. Luke laid down on the floor, on his side, and she curled up right into him. She seemed to fit right into the natural curl as Luke snuggled tighter around her. Her hand continued to run through our fur and Luke felt more at ease as she calmed down.
"We're going to find a way to set Storm free. There has to be a way." She said to him as she continued to stoke him.
"I won't ever give up." I mind linked her.
"Who could do such a terrible thing. And why?" She asked me.
"I don't know yet. But whoever it was, knew we were in New Orleans. Maybe we should get you back to Greece? Angelo can have a passport ready for you in twenty-four hours."
"But if we leave for Greece, we may never find out who it is or how to break it. We need to stay here and prepare for them to come after me." She said.
"What makes you think they will come after you here?" I asked.
"It's what you've been thinking. Wondering if the person is here at Blue Mountain or Sapphire Moon." She told me through the link. I've got to hand it to her, she's pretty sharp.
"Excellent Luna and mother material." Luke gloated to me.
"My father wants to train with you a little more. In case anyone tries anything here. With my father's earth element, my mother's water and fire element, and all three of mine, no one will get close to you." I told her.
"I still want to train. I need to make sure no one ever hurts my Luke." She said and Luke let out a yip in the room. He loved her unconditionally, just as I do.
"You should tell her." Luke nudged me.
"I will." I told him.
Three hours later, I felt Syble stirring and mumbling in her sleep. She was still curled up on the floor against Luke's warmth. We had snoozed too. I tried to link into her thoughts, but her mind was closed off. She woke up with a worried jump.
"I remember the cottage by the lake. I remember swimming in the lake with my mother while visiting my grandmother." She said.
"That's great!" I linked her. "Anything else? Other people, faces, things going on around you?"
She closed her eyes and tried really hard to concentrate on the dream she had. "It was summer, and my father was standing on a dock fishing in the lake."
I shifted back to human form and sat on the floor with her.
"You realize you're still naked, right?" She grinned.
"Whatever makes my mate happy." I chuckled.
"I'll take a raincheck for tonight. Right now, I want to see if we have time to go out to the lake and see my grandmother's cottage before the sun sets." She said.
"I think we can manage that. And I'm holding you to the raincheck little mouse."
We got dressed and went downstairs. I could scent my parents in the other room with Alpha Trevor. We moved to the door and knocked before we entered.
"Ah, did you have a good rest? Alpha Trevor asked.
"Yes, Thank you." Syble said.
"Seems being here has triggered some memories for my mate. She recalls her grandmother's house by the lake and a dock. We would like to see it, if that's okay with you Alpha Trevor?"
"Absolutely. What good news. Maybe being in the house will trigger old memories, something significant that might stand out. Here let me get the keys and I'll have Beta Finn take you over right away. It's less than a mile away.
"Also, if you don't mind, I'd like to start training with my parents and mate on her element tomorrow. We would of course prefer an area without curious eyes."
"Of course. I will have Beta Finn make the arrangements to ensure your practice area is off limits while you're there." He told us.
"Excellent. I'm looking forward to it." Alpha Dimitri said.
"Now, Beta Finn has just arrived in a four wheel drive to take you to the cottage. Here are the keys, take as little or as long as you like. It belongs to you now Syble." He smiled at her and handed her the keys. I could see her struggling to hold back tears.
"Thank you Alpha, we'll be on our way now." I said as I held Syble's hand and walked to the front door. We were greeted by a smiling Beta who held the jeep door open.
It was a short drive, but I appreciated not having my mate walk in the snow. The lake was completely still, and the surrounding trees reflected in the water. It was picturesque. I noticed about a dozen homes spread out along the lake front, some bigger than others, but the cottage stood out. It was stone and wood, looked like something out of a travel magazine for a cozy lakeside retreat.
"Would you like me to wait? Or come back later?" Beta Finn asked.
"I-I'm not sure." Syble told him.
"How about I leave the jeep here and run back. You can drive it back when you're ready to return." He offered.
"Sounds great. Thank you, Beta Finn." I told him.
"Of course." He handed me the car keys and started jogging back.
Syble and I made our way to the front door and Syble stopped to look at everything. She held the key in her shaking hand and inserted it into the lock. She gave a gentle push and the door opened up with a creak.
We walked into the room and my eyes found a light switch by the door. I was surprised when I flipped the switch and the lamp turned on, I wasn't expecting it to have power, but Alpha Trevor still kept up on the cottage. The surrounding landscape was still maintained. The inside of the Cottage was clean and also well maintained. Logs had been stacked in the fireplace for a fire.
"It's just as I remember it." Syble smiled. "It's only one bedroom, the couch folds out into a bed and that ladder leads to a small loft that I slept in when I was little." She walked over to the wooden ladder in the corner of the living room and climbed up. I was tall enough to see up there without climbing up. There was a small four foot high space with a round window in the back.
"I remember laying right here and staring out at the stars in the dark. This was my magical little hide out. I even scratched my name on the window frame and it's still here." She told me and I could see the memories coming back to her.
"Being here is good for Mate." Luke told me and I agreed.
"Maybe she will remember something that might give us a clue." I told him.
She came down the ladder and we looked around. The living space was cozy and welcoming, the kitchen was small and functional with a little eating area. There was a big kitchen window over the sink looking out at the lake. The bathroom had a big claw foot tub, and the single bedroom was comfortable and warm.
"Looks like most of her personal items have been packed up in the boxes in the loft." Syble said as we opened up cabinets, drawers and closets.
"Do you want to start going through some of it now?"
"No. I should probably ask Alpha Trevor first."
"Syble, you heard him. This is your cottage now. Everything in here belongs to you."
"Maybe we'll look through some of the boxes tomorrow. For now, I just want to be here, and see what else comes back."
"Okay. Do you want me to light the fireplace?" I asked.
"Yes please."
An hour later it was dark outside, and we sat wrapped in a blanket on the couch in front of the fire. I really need to remember to thank Alpha Trevor for having the cottage so well maintained. I thought we would be walking into a dust ball, cobweb infested, rotting cottage but that wasn't the case.
"Are you two coming to dinner?" My mother mind linked me.
"Syble, would you like to go back to the pack house for dinner?" I asked her.
"I was hoping to stay here a little longer." She said. I could feel a sense of home wash over her being in a surrounding that held happy and loving memories for her.
"No problem, we can stay as long as you like." I told her, then I linked my mother back and asked her to have food delivered to us.
Half an hour later, there was a knock on the door and Beta Finn had returned with Angelo and Camille.
"You love birds staying in this nest?" Angelo said as he hauled our luggage in. I had ordered food, but apparently my mother heard something else.
"What a wonderful idea." Syble smiled.
"This place is adorable." Camille said. "We brought you dinner and some other goodies. There's also hot chocolate and tea in the bag. We'll see you in the morning at the pack house for breakfast."
"If you need anything else, please let us know. Also, the Gamma family lives in the big house two hundred yards away to your left, if anything comes up." Beta Finn told us.
"The Gamma family?" Syble asked. "Was there a little girl named Portia who lived there? I remember playing with a girl about the same age named Portia."
"Yes. She's the Gamma's daughter. She's a year older than you and goes to college in Syracuse. She'll be home after next week when they let out for winter break." He told us.
"Thank you again." I nodded to Beta Finn as he returned to the pack house with Angelo and Camille.
Since we were going to be staying the night, I added more firewood in the fireplace as Syble removed the plastic wrapping off the dinner plates. Steak fillets, baked potatoes, asparagus and cobbler for dessert. We sat on the couch eating dinner and Syble was lost in thoughts as memories seemed to flood back to her.
"Syble is there anyone else you remember playing with when you were here besides the Gamma's daughter?"
"No, Portia was the only girl my age who lived by the lake. There were also a few boys, but they were much younger or much older. Portia is the only one I remember. I think she may have had a weird older brother or something, who helped me when I fell in the woods nearby. Everything still seems so foggy."
"It's okay, you've remembered a lot already, it will keep coming to you. I want you to tell me everything you remember, no matter how small and insignificant you think it might be."
"Okay."
"Now, are you going to finish the rest of that cobbler?"
