His Belated Love for the Abandoned Ex-Wife Chapter 142: Trapped and Confused
"Sorry to disappoint you. None of that happened. I'll go schedule a gynecology exam right now, and the test will prove it," Iris said and turned toward the outpatient building.
Arthur panicked. Things weren't going how he'd planned. He rushed after her, grabbing her arm. "Iris, it doesn't matter if we were innocent. Julian doesn't love you at all. You cheated on him; he hates you more than anything. He only wants revenge. You two should have gotten divorced a long time ago."
So many people wanted her and Julian apart.
"I'm not proving my innocence for any man. I just want to send you to jail," Iris said firmly, yanking her hand free.
She kept walking.
Suddenly, a familiar figure popped into view. Iris stopped dead, staring ahead.
Julian strode toward her, long steps closing the distance fast. The sun hit his dark, handsome face, but he oozed a cold, gloomy vibe. His eyes were sharp and intense.
He reached her in seconds, his big hand clamping down on her arm. His intense presence made it hard to breathe, and her arm throbbed like he might crush the bones.
"Come home with me," he ordered sharply, acting like Arthur wasn't even there. His eyes were full of anger, red around the edges.
Iris felt a rock in her chest. She stumbled as he pulled her forward roughly.
Behind them, Arthur's eyes turned as dark as a bottomless pit. A cold smile tugged at his lips, sharp enough to send chills down anyone's spine.
The midday sun blazed down, pouring its scorching light over everything.
But Iris only felt chills running through her body, her heart cold and heavy. Grief and grievance tangled inside her, threatening to drown her.
Her arm was clamped in his rough grip, throbbing with pain.
Before, she would've been confused.
Now, she knew exactly why Julian was so angry.
Outside the hospital gate, Julian stuffed her into the passenger seat, slammed the door, and walked around to the driver's side.
Iris rubbed her sore arm, her heart aching. Her teary eyes turned to Julian beside her.
His face was livid, as if a storm cloud loomed over him. His cold, harsh aura filled the car, and he didn't say a word.
The air in the car grew tense, so quiet it was suffocating.
Iris couldn't stand the silence. She spoke first. "If you're mad, just let it out. Don't hold it in."
Julian closed his eyes and took a deep breath, like he was trying to hold back the emotions boiling inside him. He forced himself to stay calm. After a long pause, he spoke, his voice strained. "What were you doing here with him?"
Iris opened her mouth to explain, but the words got stuck in her throat.
She still wasn't sure if Arthur had really done anything to her. The truth wasn't clear yet.
And she had no idea how Julian felt about her. Was it revenge, or did he actually like her?
All she knew was that Frederick had the virus-carrying monkeys. She had to get a divorce to get those dangerous monkeys back.
It was a responsibility she couldn't run from, no matter what.
Julian didn't get an answer, but he didn't ask again. He put on his seatbelt, started the car, and drove off fast.
Iris turned her head to look at the city scenery outside the window, feeling empty and lost.
In that moment, she realized Julian's temper was deep and unpredictable. His patience was stronger than she'd ever imagined.
Any other man would have flown into a rage seeing his wife meet up with the man she'd cheated with.
Iris stared at the familiar road, speaking softly. "I still have something really important to do. I can't go home with you."
"I'm already applying for overseas visas." Julian's tone was firm. "Once the paperwork goes through, we're moving to Nordis Basin."
Iris tensed up, staring at him in disbelief. "I'm not moving to Nordis Basin with you."
Julian ignored her protest. His handsome face was serious as he focused on driving, his words sharp and suffocating. "I have enough money to let you start your pharmaceutical research again in Nordis Basin. I'll also leave your parents a ton of money—enough for them to live comfortably for the rest of their lives."
Iris clenched her fists in anger. "Julian, I'm an independent person. I'm not your property. You don't have the right to decide my life."
"I'm still your husband right now. I have guardianship over you. Hate me, resent me—I don't have a choice. You drove me to this." Julian's voice sounded tired and helpless, but still unshakable.
Iris grew flustered, feeling more and more uneasy. She quickly pulled her phone out of her bag.
Julian glanced at her out of the corner of his eye. He swerved the car and pulled over to the side of the road.
Iris started dialing a number.
Julian quickly unbuckled his seatbelt and snatched the phone out of her hand. When he saw she was dialing 911, his face turned even darker. He hung up and threw it onto the dashboard.
The phone hit the dashboard with a sharp clink.
"Give me back my phone." Iris panicked, reaching for it, but Julian grabbed her wrist.
She pulled the door handle with her other hand, only to find it locked. Her heart sank to the bottom, and she didn't know what to do.
Julian leaned over, pinning her other hand down too.
