Iris was confused too. She shook her head.

Just then, Veritas Pharmaceuticals' sales manager brought a customer over to Iris. "This is Mr. Everhart's wife. She's a pharma research expert. She's super good with special medicines. All that praise left Iris stunned.

"Mrs. Everhart, this is the director, Shane Price, from the Integrative Medicine Center. He's really interested in our special medicines."

Iris had long wanted to learn more about integrative medicine. She got excited and shook Shane's hand right away. "Hello, Mr. Price."

"I never expected Mrs. Everhart to be so young and accomplished."

Iris replied humbly. She and Shane clicked immediately, chatting nonstop.

They closed the deal, and even agreed to do more academic exchanges later on.

The sales manager found an opening to head back to his own booth.

Iris was shocked—Veritas's salespeople kept sending customers who wanted special medicines or vaccines over to their booth.

The expo closed at six.

After the venue cleared out, Iris helped her colleagues pack up. She was so tired she could barely stand up straight.

They left the expo at seven. Nobody had eaten dinner, and everyone was starving.

Zoe suggested, "How about we go eat at a restaurant together?"

"Sure! Let's go Dutch." Her colleagues chimed in.

A few colleagues had to get home to their kids, so they politely said no.

Zoe linked arms with Iris and asked, "What about you, Iris? Wanna come with us to a nearby restaurant before going home?"

"Sure!" Iris said gently. "Let's skip splitting the bill. After dinner, just bring the receipt back to the company to get reimbursed."

"Thanks, boss!" Zoe smiled big.

The others were happy too.

A group of more than ten people walked toward the restaurant.

Just then, a familiar luxury car pulled up next to the sidewalk they were walking on.

Julian got out of the car.

The dim amber glow of a streetlight fell over him. He wore a black long-sleeve shirt and black pants, tall and imposing, with striking good looks. There was something effortlessly sharp and handsome about him, and in the hazy night air, he exuded a quiet, cold elegance.

Iris stopped. Her heart skipped a beat. She stared at him, a little zoned out.

"It's Julian!" Zoe blurted out, surprised.

Everyone stopped and looked over.

"Who's that?" David asked.

Zoe turned around and whispered, "That's Iris's husband, the big boss of Veritas Pharmaceuticals. He's the one who sent us those customers."

Everyone nodded, getting it.

Julian closed the car door and walked toward Iris. He nodded politely at everyone and then turned his deep, soft eyes to her. "Done with work?"

Iris felt a little nervous. "Yeah."

David joked, smiling. "Mr. Everhart, you here to eat with us, or to pick up your wife for some alone time?"

"Either works," Julian replied politely to David before turning to Iris, his voice softening. "You wanna eat with everyone?"

Zoe pushed Iris toward Julian.

Caught off guard, Iris tripped into his firm chest. He put his arm around her shoulders to steady her.

"C'mon!" Zoe said, smiling and pretending to be annoyed. "Go on, your husband came all the way to get you. Don't eat with us."

Before Iris could say a word, everyone grinned and waved goodbye, then followed Zoe ahead.

His chest was warm and cozy.

Iris didn't dare stay close. She quickly stepped out of his arms and took a step back.

Julian's hand, hanging in the air, twitched a little. He curled his fingers and slowly put it down. He turned and opened the passenger door.

"Get in."

Iris walked over and pointed to the back seat. "I'll sit in the..."

Julian cut her off. "It's already disinfected and cleaned—totally spotless."

He made it clear. Iris didn't argue; she got into the passenger seat.

Once in the car, Iris put on her seatbelt.

She took a deep breath and noticed the car smelled different. It was a light magnolia scent—really nice.

It smelled just like the magnolia tree in front of her grandma's house, when it bloomed the most in April and May.

Julian got in the car. He didn't put on his seatbelt right away. Instead, he picked up a small bag and handed it to her.

"What's this?" Iris took it, curious.

"Hungry?" Julian put on his seatbelt.

"Starving." Iris opened the bag. Inside were a bottle of yogurt, a pack of baby corn, and a small cake.

"Eat a little to tide you over." He started the car and pulled away.

"I can eat in your car?" Iris was shocked.

Even people who weren't picky about cleanliness hated it when others ate in their cars.

It left a smell, and it could create a mess.

"Yeah. If it gets dirty, we'll get it cleaned." Julian focused on driving. The car lights were on, so she could eat easily.

Iris hung her head. A warm feeling washed over her, and she couldn't help smiling.

He didn't seem mad about the Lily thing.

Iris really wanted to eat the baby corn, but she was worried it might leave a mess in the car.

She didn't wanna ruin the nice scent in his car. So she took out the yogurt, put in the straw, and drank it.
