Owen cowered in the corner, covering his head with his arms.

"I'm sorry, Ms. Prescott! I... I was wrong... I was just guessing..."

Lily got tired from hitting him. She sat back down, gasping for breath.

Owen timidly straightened his suit, inched closer to the car door, and kept apologizing quietly. "I was just guessing. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have talked too much."

Lily bit her lower lip, still breathing hard.

The car went completely quiet. A terrifying cold aura filled the air, so icy it sent chills down the spine and made hair stand on end. Breathing grew difficult.

This silence was scarier than a storm.

Lily knew Julian well.

An angry Julian wasn't scary. You could easily calm him down.

The scariest part was when he went totally cold. It sent shivers down your spine.

The calmer Julian was, the more scared Lily got. She froze up, trying to explain again. "I never said that to Iris. I swear I didn't. She doesn't even care about your stuff. Why would I say that to her?"

Julian sat stiffly in the driver's seat, not moving an inch. His voice was low but icy. "Get out."

Owen immediately opened the door and got out.

"Julian..." Lily's face turned pale. She didn't move. "I really... I..."

"Get out!" Julian's voice cut like an ice pick. One more second of stalling, and he would've blown up.

Lily got scared and quickly opened the door to get out.

As soon as both doors closed, the car sped away.

Owen walked to the side of the road, took out his phone, and ordered a ride.

Suddenly, Lily rushed over. Her sharp, thick high heels slammed into Owen's shin.

"Ah!" Owen squatted down, clutching his shin in pain. He shook uncontrollably, tears streaming down his face.

He was just a poor guy trying to make ends meet. He couldn't cry, couldn't fight back. He had to bottle up all his anger and frustration.

"Shut your big mouth!" Lily put her hands on her hips, glaring at him fiercely.

Iris didn't get home until nine o'clock at night.

Julian wasn't there.

She was worn out. She went to her room, took a shower, and had a packet of herbal sleep powder to help her rest. She needed to be wide awake for the expo the next day.

She didn't even eat breakfast the next morning. She hurried out the door.

The expo was packed. She left one research professor at the company and took everyone else with her.

They passed out flyers, talked to customers, gave demos, and signed orders.

Iris wasn't good at selling, but as soon as she and Zoe stood in front of the booth, people kept coming over to ask questions.

Even though their booth was shabby and out of the way, the guys still flocked over.

But guys rarely act on impulse.

They know the difference between hitting on someone and doing business.

If a girl isn't interested, they won't waste their money on her.

So their booth looked busy, but barely anyone actually bought anything.

Veritas Pharmaceuticals was a different story.

It was a new company, but it was closing deals left and right. The booth was packed.

Zoe sighed. "Guess it's true what they say—clothes make the man. Are all new companies this good now?"

Iris handed Zoe a Veritas Pharmaceuticals brochure. "Take a look."

"I already did. We have plain flyers; they have a fancy brochure—nicer than a real book."

"Look at the first chapter."

Zoe took it and opened it.

The first chapter was the company introduction, which included a section about the big boss, Julian.

Zoe finally got it. "Oh, right! Veritas is doing so well because of Julian's clout in the business world."

Iris nodded. She stood next to Zoe, walking around the venue and passing out flyers.

"Was Julian really angry last night?" Zoe asked curiously.

Iris forced a smile as she handed a flyer to a passerby. "I didn't see him."

"Is he gonna snap at you later?"

"Hardly ever, since we've known each other."

Zoe let out a breath of relief. "That's good."

"No, it's not." Iris smiled sadly. "Actually, couples who fight end up closer. Never fighting, sweeping everything under the rug—it's miserable. And problems just pile up."

"With your personality, you probably can't even fight anyway."

Was it all her fault? Iris felt her heart sink.

They walked and passed out flyers. When they walked by Veritas Pharmaceuticals' booth, they saw the salespeople running around nonstop.

They were so jealous.

Zoe leaned in and whispered in Iris's ear, "Do you still wanna get a divorce?"

Iris nodded, then shook her head. "I do, but it's not that easy."

"That's the difference between marriage and dating," Zoe griped. "That's why I'll never get married. To get a divorce, the other person has to agree, plus a one-month cooling-off period. It's such a pain."

Iris pressed her lips together, a bitter feeling in her chest.

"You really don't love him anymore?" Zoe raised an eyebrow.

Iris gently nudged her shoulder. "When you meet someone you like someday, you'll get it. Letting go is harder than loving."

"So you still love him!"

Iris said nothing. She just kept handing out flyers.

When they got back to their booth, they were shocked speechless.

Two salespeople from Veritas Pharmaceuticals were there, busy talking about their special meds and vaccines.
