His Belated Love for the Abandoned Ex-Wife Chapter 282: Kidnapped
She was terrified and tried to fight back, but she couldn't make a sound. A few seconds after inhaling the chemical, she lost consciousness and passed out.
When Iris woke up again, she was already lying on a cold operating table. The air smelled of disinfectant, and everywhere she looked, there were cold, scary surgical instruments. Her whole body started shaking.
When she tried to struggle, she realized her arms and legs were strapped down and her mouth was taped shut.
Fear crept into her like a demon, spreading through her insides and then to every part of her body. She trembled with terror, tears welling up in her eyes.
"Mmm... mmm..." She tried to call for help, but the tape over her mouth stopped any sound from coming out.
She didn't dare think about what horror was waiting for her. If her enemy wanted her dead, they wouldn't have let her wake up at all.
They had to be after the baby in her belly, who was already seven months along and fully formed. Maybe the baby could feel her fear and panic too. It moved around wildly inside her, kicking her belly until it hurt.
Then she heard a man's angry voice nearby. "Where's the doctor? Why isn't he here yet?"
Another voice answered, "I don't know. Something came up. We need to wait a bit longer."
"We paid so much money, and they're this irresponsible."
"Alright, just wait." The man sounded annoyed, then changed the subject. "Hey, is that you? Get in here. Get this done and over with so we don't have more problems later."
Iris turned her tearfilled eyes toward the door of the operating room.
Just then, a man in a suit and a surgical mask pulled a doctor into the room. The doctor was wearing scrubs, a surgical cap, and a surgical mask.
He looked confused. The moment he saw Iris on the table, his eyes turned dark and serious, and his body went stiff.
Another man in a suit quickly closed the door and urged, "What are you standing there for? Do the surgery already and kill the baby in her belly."
When Iris heard that, it felt like a thousand arrows piercing her heart. She couldn't breathe. Tears streamed down her face and dripped onto the operating table. She shook her head desperately, pleading with her eyes.
Don't kill my baby! He's already over seven months old. He could survive if he was born now. Please don't kill my baby!
She cried and wanted to beg, but no words came out—only muffled sounds. "Mmm... mmm..."
The doctor came closer. Iris trembled all over. She didn't know who had sent those men. But she was sure Zoe wouldn't hurt her.
Who was it? Why did they want to kill her baby so badly?
"Mmm... mmm..." Iris' vision was blurry with tears.
The doctor felt Iris' belly and said, "Looks like about seven months, right? If you cut her open now and take the baby out, it would be alive. And if you kill a live baby, that's murder."
The bodyguard said angrily, "Do you have amnesia? You gave us the plan yesterday. Inject poison into her belly first, kill the baby inside, then induce labor or cut it out."
The doctor seemed surprised. "Oh, right, I remember now. Fine, wait outside. I'll handle it in here."
The two bodyguards looked at each other. The doctor frowned. "Do you want to watch me cut her open? It's really bloody."
The two bodyguards swallowed hard and left the operating room.
Iris looked at the doctor through her tears. Her eyes were full of pleading, fear, despair, and anger at how unfair it all was. But who could save her? Save her baby?
The doctor took off his gloves and gently pulled down his surgical mask, revealing a handsome, familiar face. When Iris saw Brandon, she was shocked and scared, staring at him nervously.
Brandon whispered, "Don't be afraid. I'm not the doctor they hired. They dragged me in here by mistake."
At that moment, Iris' terrified heart calmed down a little. She nodded quickly.
Brandon untied her hands and feet, pulled the tape off her mouth, and helped Iris get off the table.
Iris felt weak and shaky. Her voice was hoarse and trembling. "Is... is there a back door?"
"Yeah, every operating room has one for fire safety."
With Brandon helping her, Iris left through the fire exit.
"Do you want me to call the police for you?" Brandon asked.
Iris quickly stopped him. "Don't call the police."
"Why not?"
Iris' voice was still shaking. "I think I know who's behind this. Even if I call the police, they won't catch the real mastermind. They'll just let a couple of lowlevel guys take the fall. Then my baby and I will never be safe. That kind of danger will keep coming."
Brandon was shocked. "Did you make an enemy of someone really powerful?"
"Pretty much."
"Okay. I understand."
Iris held her belly and walked down the stairs as she said, "Brandon, thank you for saving my life."
"No problem. It was nothing. Let me take you home."
"I can't go home."
They left the hospital through a side door. Brandon helped Iris, who was out of breath. "The baby's father is Julian, right?"
Iris nodded, tears in her eyes.
"You need to tell him what happened. He can protect you."
Tears slowly fell from Iris' eyes, rolling down her pale cheeks. Her voice cracked. "He can protect me, that's true. But he's also the reason why I'm in danger. Without him, I wouldn't be in any danger at all. So why would I need to be protected by him twentyfour seven?"
