His Belated Love for the Abandoned Ex-Wife Chapter 69: A Jealous Fit

Lily's expression turned dark instantly.

Owen replied respectfully, "Mr. Everhart, I don't have a car. But I know most women would mind that."

"She's not a clean freak." Julian still looked confused.

Owen said, "Probably a case of emotional cleanliness."

Emotional cleanliness?

No one knew better than him how miserable that felt.

He didn't ask more. He started the car and pulled out of the parking lot.

Lily stuffed her things into her Chanel bag, muttering unhappily, "Iris is so petty. What's the big deal if I sit in your passenger seat? Is she really that jealous? Who knows what she says about me behind my back. I'm your best friend, not your side chick. So narrow-minded—it's ridiculous."

Julian's voice turned sharp. "You don't wanna sit in the back either?"

"Can't I complain a little?"

"She never mentions you in front of me. But you? You dare badmouth her to my face."

Lily clenched her fists, gritting her teeth. "Julian, you're such a girlfriend guy."

Owen felt so awkward his scalp tingled. He didn't dare say a word. He forced an awkward smile and stared out the window.

Julian warned coldly, "Lily, we've been friends since we were kids. Yeah, we're close. But that doesn't give you the right to act like you can get away with anything. Don't cross my line. You know what will happen."

Lily held her anger in, biting her lip and staying quiet. Her fists trembled from how tight she was squeezing them.

Lily knew Julian well. He looked elegant, calm, and steady. But he was actually really tough. Cross his line, make him mad, and he'd do anything. He could be ruthless.

Not long after the car started moving, it suddenly pulled into a car wash.

Lily leaned forward, confused. "Aren't we going to the expo to check the booth setup?"

Julian didn't answer her. He ordered, "Get out."

Owen and Lily got out of the car. When Julian stepped out, a worker greeted him respectfully. "Sir, getting a car wash?"

"Yeah." Julian pointed to the passenger seat. "Clean and disinfect the inside of the car. Be thorough."

"Got it, sir."

Lily put her hands on her hips, so mad her face turned red.

At the pharmaceutical expo hall...

The messy hall was full of construction materials. Some booths were already finished. Others had workers rushing to wrap things up.

Iris's company was small, with limited funds. They could only rent a tiny booth in the corner, with super simple decor.

The workers finished putting up the main frame, got their pay, and left. They had to do the rest of the finishing work themselves.

Carl was putting up posters. Zoe and Iris were cleaning up the trash on the floor.

"The expo starts tomorrow. I'm kinda nervous." Zoe stood up straight, stretching her sore waist.

"I'm more nervous than you." Iris sighed, standing up and looking at the big, fancy booths up front—high-end decor, prime spots, all grand and impressive. She felt a twinge of envy.

"Hope we can land a few big orders." Zoe looked forward to it, tossing her cloth onto a chair. "I'm exhausted."

Carl finished putting up the posters, put his hands on his hips, and walked over to stand next to Iris. He glanced around. "Almost done. Our booth's small and out of the way, but our drugs are top-notch. Good stuff always finds its audience."

Iris smiled and nodded.

Carl had sharp eyes. He turned his head and glanced forward. "Hey, isn't that your husband?"

Iris followed his finger.

Sure enough, there was Julian, at a booth up front.

A bunch of people were around him. Lily was there too.

Zoe stood up curiously, hurrying over to Iris. She was in such a hurry that she accidentally bumped Iris right into Carl's arms.

Iris almost fell. Carl held her by the shoulders to steady her.

"Sorry." Iris apologized.

"No problem." He stepped aside so Zoe and Iris could see better.

Zoe looked shocked. "That's really Julian? Everhart Group doesn't develop their own medical devices. Why are they at the pharmaceutical expo?"

"It's Veritas Pharmaceuticals, not Everhart Group." Iris wasn't too surprised.

Zoe gasped. "Whoa! Veritas Pharmaceuticals must be pretty big, huh? Look at that booth—it's one of the fanciest here!"

Iris pressed her lips together, feeling a surge of envy.

She hoped she could become that successful one day, catch up to him, and prove herself worthy of him.

She zoned out. When she turned around, she bumped into Carl again.

He laughed, steadying her again. He shook his head. "You can zone out just looking at your own husband?"

Iris felt shy and embarrassed. "I'm so sorry."

She hadn't realized he'd been standing right behind her, staring at the other booths just like them.

"It's fine. Hurry up and clean. Once this place is tidy, we can display the products."

Iris went back to cleaning.

Zoe, though, got distracted. She kept glancing over at Julian's booth, muttering, "Iris, is he pretending not to see us? We're so close—he could at least come say hi."

"Can't you see he's busy?" Iris replied calmly.

Zoe shook her head. "No, he looks pretty free. His employees are the ones working their butts off."

"Stop staring at him. Hurry up and clean."

Zoe didn't care about being obvious. She held her towel but didn't work, just staring at Julian's booth. She paced back and forth, analyzing casually. "He's glanced over here a hundred times out of the corner of his eye, but he's pretending not to see us. Should we go over and say hi?"
