His Belated Love for the Abandoned Ex-Wife Chapter 71: Fake Innocence

She was the outgoing type—always smiling, easy to talk to, and warm. Carl was pretty laid-back, so they hit it off fast.

Once the goods were unloaded, Carl pulled mineral water out of the box. He handed one to everyone and thanked the people who'd helped.

Julian took a bottle too. He wandered around the booth, checking out the drug info on the billboards. He had no plans to leave anytime soon.

The sales manager took his team back to their own booth to keep working.

Lily had Carl cracking up. They chatted and worked together to display the products, like they'd been friends forever.

Zoe was fuming. She walked over to Iris and muttered, "That fake nice girl! How does she get along with guys everywhere she goes?"

Iris pressed her lips into a faint smile and said nothing. Out of the corner of her eye, she glanced at Julian nearby.

He seemed really into the introduction on the wall.

Iris picked up a box of vaccines, worked up her courage, and walked over to him, holding it out.

Julian looked down at the drug in her hand and then lifted his eyes to her face. There was a little confusion in his gaze.

"This vaccine works really well. But most hospitals have their own supply channels. My company only has one salesperson. We can't get many sales." Iris trailed off, too embarrassed to finish asking for help.

She'd turned down his offer to cooperate on the new drug. Now she was asking him to help sell the old ones. It felt shameless.

Iris fell silent, humiliated.

When Julian reached for the vaccine, she pulled her hand back right away. She hung her head in embarrassment. "Never mind."

Julian smiled, like he could tell she was awkward. He reached out, took the vaccine from her hand, and looked at the packaging carefully. "Go on. What do you need me to do?"

Iris hesitated for a few seconds and stopped overthinking. "Your medical devices work with a lot of big hospitals. Can you introduce our salesperson to the purchasing managers of one or two of them?"

For a small pharmaceutical company like theirs, their salesperson couldn't even get in to see a hospital director. Forget about the dean.

No connections meant no big deals.

Julian leaned down, getting close to her face. He murmured softly, "Even if I introduce them, are you sure your salesperson can land orders from big hospitals?"

His breath was warm, fanning her cheeks. His voice was deep and soft, as gentle as a spring breeze, brushing against her ear.

Iris's ears turned red, her heart racing. She swallowed nervously. "At least there's a chance."

"Your salesperson isn't cut out for this. What if you, the boss, go yourself?" Julian leaned a little closer, his voice even softer.

"I'm good at drug research, but I suck at sales." Iris hung her head, too scared to meet his eyes. Being that close made her heart feel like it was gonna jump out of her throat.

"I'll go with you. What are you scared of?"

"You're really busy too."

"No matter how busy I am, I got time to eat. It won't take long."

Iris nodded, feeling a little uneasy. Asking for a favor meant she owed him.

Even if he was her husband, she couldn't ask him for help without feeling guilty.

To everyone else, the couple was whispering close in the corner. No one dared to bother them.

Zoe smiled softly.

Lily's eyes burned with hidden anger. She tried her best to hold it back.

Julian stared at Iris's face for a second, then stood up straight and looked at the ad on the wall. He twisted open the mineral water bottle and took a big sip.

Iris thought for a second and then spoke up. "How about we set up a meeting after the expo, when you're free?"

Julian pressed his lips and nodded. "Yeah."

"If the deal goes through, how much commission should I give you?" Iris asked seriously.

After all, salespeople always get a commission when they close a deal.

Julian smiled knowingly, set down the water bottle, and whispered gently, "We'll talk about that at home."

Iris nodded. "Okay."

Julian said nothing else. He turned around, left the booth, and walked further into the expo hall.

Iris watched him walk into the bathroom.

Her heart felt warm for no reason. She hung her head, smiling happily and shyly.

Lily walked over from the display cabinet, glanced around, picked up the water bottle Julian had left, and twisted it open. "I'm so thirsty."

Then she brought the bottle to her lips and drank.

Iris was shocked.

When Zoe saw this, she stormed over, fists clenched. She said through gritted teeth, "Lily, that's Julian's water! Why are you drinking his drink?"

Lily looked a little surprised. "Huh? This is Julian's water? I thought I left mine here earlier. Oops."

She set the bottle down with an innocent look, then grinned and said casually, "It's no big deal though. We've always shared drinks. Grew up doing it, never cared about stuff like that."

Zoe huffed, laughing coldly. "Heh."

Lily turned to Iris, pretending to look innocent. "Iris, you don't mind, right?"

Iris's face froze. Her heart felt sour and bitter, and she didn't know what to say.

How could she not mind?

They'd been married for two years. As his wife, she'd never even used his cup, let alone shared a drink with him.

She didn't even have the right to be jealous. So how could she say she minded?
