His Belated Love for the Abandoned Ex-Wife Chapter 65: A Supermarket Run

The street was quiet, with few people around.

"I got my paycheck! Let's go out for a fancy dinner!" Zoe smiled brightly, like a flower in full bloom.

People who just got their paychecks walk around like they own the place.

Iris spoke softly. "Don't waste money. Save it up. You'll see how important savings are when you need cash."

Zoe pouted. "You sound just like my mom."

"Oh, my good girl."

Zoe couldn't help laughing, shaking Iris's hand and linking their arms tighter.

Iris smiled, looking down.

Zoe glanced at her face. "You seem happy. Did you fix things with your guy?"

"No." Iris's smile faded. "He won't divorce me."

Zoe snorted. "Ugh, men. Most of them are messed up one way or another."

"He's definitely got his share of issues." Iris couldn't help complaining too.

"He doesn't love you, won't divorce you, and he's so cold to you all the time. He's definitely in a fake marriage. He's gay, for sure."

"I don't think his sexuality is the problem." Iris's voice was uncertain.

They stopped at the subway entrance. Zoe looked indignant. "He's messed up! You're so pretty and have such a great body. If I were lying next to you, I wouldn't be able to keep my hands off you. I'd have to kiss you. How does a guy with so much energy hold back?"

"We sleep in separate rooms!"

"See? Told you he's messed up."

"He's a bit of a clean freak."

"You're soft and clean. You're not dirty at all."

Iris smiled bitterly, letting go of Zoe's hand. "Go take the subway. I need to go home."

"Why go home so early? Let's eat something nice outside. It's not expensive—just a few hundred bucks."

"I need to take time to study. My brother owes millions in debt. I wanna save up so I can help him if he needs it later."

Zoe patted her head. "What a good sister! Go on, bye!"

"See you tomorrow." Iris waved and went on her way.

The streetlights were dim, and the night was a little cool.

Iris walked toward her neighborhood.

Passing a supermarket, she decided to go in and buy some veggies for dinner.

As she stepped inside, a familiar man's voice called from behind.

"Iris!"

She turned around and saw Julian walking over, wearing a casual shirt and pants. No matter what he wore, he looked handsome, elegant, and noble.

Probably thanks to his tall figure and good looks, he stood out wherever he went.

She didn't expect to run into him here, of all places.

Iris's heart tightened a little. She waited until he walked up to her and asked softly, "What are you doing at the supermarket?"

"The fridge is pretty empty," Julian replied calmly, walking past her.

They'd never gone grocery shopping together before. If she didn't go with him, she'd have to turn around and go home.

But turning around would be too obvious.

Going shopping together would be awkward too—they'd have nothing to say.

Iris hesitated and then followed behind him.

Julian grabbed a shopping cart and slowed down his pace.

The supermarket wasn't very crowded.

They walked into the daily necessities section. The atmosphere was a little awkward. They walked in silence for a while.

Julian suddenly stopped in front of the body wash shelf. He asked softly, "What brand of body wash do you use? It smells really good."

"Huh?" Iris was stunned, looking up at him.

Did he smell my body wash in the bathroom? Or did he smell me?

Julian paused for a few seconds. "I wanna switch brands."

Iris looked confused. She walked to the corner, picked up the body wash she usually used, and handed it to him.

He took it calmly, didn't check the ingredients, and put it straight into the cart.

They moved to another shelf. He asked again, "What about shampoo?"

Iris frowned. "Switching that too?"

He explained casually, "The one at home makes my hair fall out."

Iris looked up at his short hair. It was so thick; losing a little wouldn't matter!

She didn't dare say that. She picked up the shampoo she used and handed it to him.

Julian didn't take it. He gave her a look, signaling her to put it in the cart.

Iris set it down. Her clear, bright eyes were shiny and a little hazy, looking at him quietly.

Julian met her gaze. After a few seconds, he looked away, his Adam's apple bobbing, and pushed the cart forward.

Iris followed him again.

Passing the snack section, Iris spotted baby corn in the distance, and her mouth began to water.

Julian reached over, grabbed a few packs of baby corn, and put them in the cart.

Iris's heart felt a little warm.

She remembered the alumni party. Julian seemed to know her likes pretty well.

"Iris." Julian called her name.

Iris hurried to catch up, responding in a soft tone, "Yeah?"

"What do you wanna eat for dinner?"

"Whatever."

"There's no 'whatever' on the menu," Julian said, glancing at the fruits and veggies in the cart as he walked.

Iris laughed, pursing her lips and thinking for a second. "Something quick and easy."

"I'll cook. No need to make it quick and easy for me."

"Other than pasta, you can't cook anything else."

Julian suddenly stopped walking. Iris was looking at the veggies next to her and didn't notice he'd stopped. She walked straight into him.
