When the Moon No Longer Answers the Wolf Chapter 14
The werewolf battlefield.
The moment Aurora appeared, she was spotted by the patrol.
"It's the Enforcer! She's here!"
Her arrival was a huge morale boost for the Council's army, which had been leaderless for days.
Aurora remembered the tremor. "What happened?"
Someone quickly answered, "For some reason, the Shadowfang pack suddenly launched a massive attack, but then they retreated just as quickly. It's quiet now."
Aurora sensed something was off. The Shadowfang pack was known for its greed. Once they sank their teeth into something, they never let go. This wasn't that simple.
Sure enough, a short while later, waves of black mist began to spread from the Shadowfang camp, enveloping everyone.
"The King! It's the Shadowfang King!"
"Wasn't he in the Land of Slaughter, refining resentment to unleash the Crimson Curse? How did he get here so fast?"
"Ma'am, weren't we told it would be at least a few more days before he could unleash it?"
Aurora was also confused. She used her power to disperse the black mist and charged forward to engage the King.
She had just come from the ritual ground, and her suppressed power hadn't fully recovered. She hadn't used her abilities in days, and they felt sluggish. Aurora’s face darkened. She might lose this fight.
To her surprise, the moment they clashed, the King didn't seem to be using much of his strength either.
Aurora paused, then quickly changed her tactics.
The King's voice, raspy and hoarse like grinding sand, echoed ominously.
"So careless while fighting me. Does the Enforcer overestimate herself or underestimate me?"
"The so-called Council Enforcer. Your reputation is undeserved."
Aurora didn't respond, carefully countering the King's attacks while sensing the power gradually returning to her body.
As her strength recovered, their battle intensified. Neither would back down, and neither could defeat the other.
Half an hour later, both were injured.
Aurora channeled her power into her hands and her weapon, launching an attack that tore through the air toward the King.
But the King didn't linger. He transformed into a cloud of black mist and floated away.
Aurora watched the fleeing Shadowfang pack and stopped the Council's army from giving chase.
"Don't pursue a desperate enemy."
The King had clearly been holding back. Chasing him now could lead them into a trap.
Whatever he was planning, she needed to speed up her cultivation.
A sense of unease crept over Aurora.
The current Shadowfang King had ascended two hundred years ago by killing his predecessor. In just two short years, he had united the splintered rogue packs.
He wasn't as bloodthirsty as the previous king, but he was clearly more cunning. Under his leadership, the Shadowfang pack had grown stronger than ever.
If he succeeded in unleashing the Crimson Curse, the world would be devastated.
She still wasn't strong enough. Only by being powerful enough could she defy these schemes and plots.
After dealing with the situation on the battlefield, Aurora quickly returned to the cave to continue her cultivation.
Victor was already waiting for her.
"Injured?"
He tossed her a white jade vial. "Take this."
Aurora sniffed it, her eyes widening in surprise. "You're giving me a Lunar Elixir?"
"Why not?"
Aurora became wary and tossed the vial back to him.
"We've only just met. I can't accept something so valuable."
Victor played with the vial. After a long moment, he said, "Aren't we friends?"
Aurora froze. Friends? She didn't really have any friends.
Since she was young, she had always revolved around Kaelen. Whatever he did, she did. She never bothered playing with other wolf cubs her age.
When she grew up, she shouldered the safety of the entire pack, leaving almost no time for herself.
Thinking back, her time in the valley was one of the few times she had truly lived for herself, a rare moment of leisure.
Aurora stared blankly, murmuring, "Is this what friends are?"
Victor nodded without hesitation. "Of course. So don't refuse when a friend offers you something to heal."
While they were enjoying this peaceful moment, they had no idea that someone outside was frantically searching for her.
