When the Moon No Longer Answers the Wolf Chapter 29

4 min 3 views

Aurora pulled her hand back. He could apply it himself if he wanted to.

"He's my husband."

Kaelen didn't give up. "What about before? In the valley, you two had no relationship then, right?"

Back then, Aurora hadn't cared.

She had suffered countless wounds on the battlefield. Once, an enemy wolf king had even torn her open from chest to stomach. An elder had found her and healed her.

She had been afraid of worrying Kaelen, so she had never told him about her injuries since she started fighting, nor had she ever shown him her wounds. She always waited until she was almost fully recovered before appearing before him.

It was just healing. Why make a big deal about it? Compared to life, it was nothing.

But now, she found herself unconsciously avoiding and feeling shy around Victor, and she had started to keep her distance from others.

Aurora had loved Kaelen for centuries. She knew what this meant.

"Kaelen, I love him."

Kaelen’s heart sank, and his eyes gradually reddened.

"Then what about me? What am I supposed to do? Didn't you say you loved me?"

Aurora took a step back, looking at Kaelen in disbelief. What he was saying meant…

The next second, Kaelen confirmed her thoughts.

"It's exactly as you think. I love you."

He confessed with a bitter smile. "It was only after you completely disappeared from my sight that I understood the source of my strange resistance and unwillingness to let go. It was my unrequited love."

"I was happy that you depended on me and loved me, but I was also afraid to face my own improper feelings. So I hurt you, I rejected you, but I didn't want to let you go."

Kaelen stood up, ignoring his own injuries, and walked step by step to Aurora, looking down at her.

"Aurora, I love you. I want to be with you for all eternity."

"I was wrong. Please, great Enforcer, be merciful and forgive me."

Kaelen cast aside his millennia of pride and arrogance, humbling himself, just to win a sliver of compassion from the girl he loved, so that they could return to their former intimacy.

Aurora snapped out of her daze and pushed Kaelen away, taking another step back.

"Kaelen, the snake poison has clearly affected your mind. You should go back to the wolf world and heal."

Realizing her rejection, a wave of regret and despair washed over Kaelen's heart.

How could it hurt so much? Was this the pain Aurora had felt when he had repeatedly hurled harsh words at her?

The words he had said in the past flashed before his eyes, along with fleeting images of Aurora’s sad, hurt face. This suffering had finally come back to him.

"You don't believe me?"

"When our life essences were connected, you could feel my emotions, right? Every time I was aroused, it was because of you."

Aurora thought of what she had once sensed and laughed absurdly.

"Wasn't it because you were with Seraphina? A beautiful night, a beautiful woman in your arms. What does that have to do with me?"

Kaelen’s face darkened, as if he had swallowed a fly.

"How could I ever be with her? She's not worthy!"

"Every time she stayed at the manor, I created a small barrier for her to stay in. Those nights..."

His face suddenly turned red, and he couldn't look at her, his voice so soft it was almost carried away by the wind. "I was thinking of you."

"And that night I was drunk, I knew very well who I was kissing. I was too selfish and cowardly, afraid you would see through my derailed feelings, so I lied and said I had mistaken you for someone else."

"It was my fault. I made you suffer so much. Aurora, will you give me a chance to make it up to you? Let's start over, with a different identity."

Aurora didn't answer him, avoiding his expectant gaze. She turned and walked out of the tent. "Kaelen, you should go back. This is my trial. It has nothing to do with you."

Nothing to do with him?

Kaelen watched Aurora’s back. How could it have nothing to do with him? He had raised her. He would never let her leave him.

After their last unpleasant encounter, Aurora hadn't seen Kaelen for two months, and the situation on the battlefield had become increasingly tense.

Thanks to her knowledge of Seraphina’s poison, she had found a glimmer of hope.

Seraphina had been injured last time and hadn't used her dark powers again, giving Aurora a chance to breathe.

This was the umpteenth battle. Aurora stood on the city wall, looking down at the hellish scene below.

More than half of the generals who had once stood by her side were gone. Her father had aged considerably, his hair now completely white.

And by her side, someone was missing.

Victor was now on the other side, with the Northern army.

Standing next to Seraphina.

He had betrayed her.
