When the Moon No Longer Answers the Wolf Chapter 30
Two months ago, after Seraphina’s night attack.
Victor had found Aurora.
"We can't stay here any longer. Pack your things, we have to go."
"Why?"
Victor pulled her into the room.
"Your uncle brought Seraphina here. She's used some forbidden technique to use magic in the human world. We can't defeat her as mortals."
"The Northern army has been poisoned. They now firmly believe that Seraphina is a blessing from the goddess. As the poison deepens, the situation will become a fight to the death."
"We have to leave now. Dying during a trial can cause your power to regress, or even shatter your dao heart, losing the chance for ascension and becoming a cripple."
Aurora disagreed, pulling her hand away.
"No. If I leave, what about Greystone City? What about all the soldiers and civilians?"
"Besides, we're the cause of this trial. How can we just run away?"
A rare indifference and coldness appeared on Victor’s usually gentle face.
"What do their lives have to do with me?"
"You seem to be too emotionally invested in this world. It's unnecessary. We're not from here, and we'll leave eventually. The years in the human world are not even long enough for us to complete one closed-door cultivation."
"Besides, if we leave, Seraphina won't waste her time here either."
Aurora felt that this was his true self. This man's acting was just too good, so good that people subconsciously forgot he was an old fox who had lived for countless years.
But she still found it hard to accept. "So you weren't being sincere here?"
Victor scoffed. "It was all just an act. Sooner or later, you'll find out that these people are not worth it."
"If that's what you think, then you should have left from the beginning."
Victor left.
When he reappeared, it was by Seraphina’s side.
These past few days, he had been helping Seraphina fight against her, causing resentment and low morale in the camp.
Now, he was standing next to Seraphina again, whispering something to her.
Aurora looked away, not watching any longer.
Suddenly, the battlefield changed.
The soldiers of the Northern army started foaming at the mouth and collapsing.
The Greystone City army, their eyes red with bloodlust, charged forward to finish them off.
Even though the Northern army had sounded the retreat, the convulsing soldiers on the ground had no strength to return to their camp and could only be slaughtered.
Her father wanted to stop them, but Aurora grabbed his hand.
"Dad, you pity them, but they won't pity you. Haven't you seen how many of our people they've killed? Throughout history, how many generals have fallen because of their mercy?"
Her father trembled slightly. Aurora’s recent performance had impressed him. Seeing that victory was certain, he turned and descended from the city wall.
"Forget it. It's your generation's world now. I'm old, old..."
Aurora’s sharp gaze swept over the enemy camp. She saw that Victor was gone, and Seraphina was on the ground, pale and sweating profusely.
At this point, if she couldn't figure out what Victor was up to, she was a fool.
How did he manage to injure Seraphina so badly as a mortal?
Aurora kept a close eye on Seraphina and was the first to notice the black mist around her solidifying and spreading.
But the people of the North weren't afraid. They were ecstatic, clapping and shouting—
"The goddess has shown her power! Heaven bless the North!"
But it was clear that Seraphina was sacrificing their life force for a final, desperate move.
