When the Moon No Longer Answers the Wolf Chapter 16

4 min 3 views

Aurora was about to swallow the pill Victor gave her when he suddenly snatched it back.

She felt like she was being played with. As she was about to speak, Victor explained.

"I forgot you have no power right now. Even if you ate it, you couldn't digest it."

Aurora understood and waved her hand. "Then let it be. The wound will heal on its own anyway."

Victor was exasperated. "You're a woman. How can you be more rugged than me?"

Aurora pouted, watching Victor rummage through his storage ring, pulling out a pile of bottles and jars. She thought to herself that there were plenty of women more rugged than him.

Victor finally found a jar of ointment. "Take off your clothes. I'll apply the medicine for you."

"Oh."

Aurora’s wound was on her back. She obediently turned around, untied her belt, and pulled her clothes off her shoulders.

Victor’s eyelashes trembled for a moment, then he began applying the ointment naturally.

"Aren't you afraid I'll stab you in the back?"

"No."

"Why?"

"If you dare to stab me, I can kill you too."

Victor paused, then shook his head with a chuckle. "Yes, I almost forgot. The great Enforcer is powerful. Of course, you're not afraid of a nobody like me."

Just as they were finishing, Kaelen appeared out of nowhere, looking furious.

Aurora was surprised to see him. "Kaelen, how did you get in?"

To enter the ritual ground, one had to wait for the entrance to open on a specific day and have the High Alpha's seal to activate the array. Both were essential.

It wasn't the time for the entrance to open, and the High Alpha had promised her he wouldn't let Kaelen in. So how did he get here?

Kaelen didn't answer her question. His deep eyes were fixed on Victor’s hand on Aurora’s shoulder.

So, all these days she had been gone, she had been here with this man?

A beautiful place, a man and a woman alone…

Kaelen couldn't stop his thoughts from spiraling downward. The more he imagined, the more the fire of jealousy burned within him.

How could she?

Didn't Aurora love him? How could she be so intimate with another man?

He suppressed his anger and extended a hand toward Aurora.

"Aurora, come back with me."

Hearing Kaelen’s commanding tone, Aurora stood motionless, not moving a step closer to him.

"Kaelen, I am cultivating here. I will not be returning with you."

Kaelen held back his temper, coaxing her as he had countless times before when she was being stubborn.

"Come back with me first. The Moon Goddess Ritual is not so easily completed."

"Kaelen, I have already started down this path. I will not stop. If I stop now, I will suffer a backlash."

Kaelen wasn't about to be swayed by such an excuse. Letting Aurora complete the ritual was what he would truly regret.

"I will find a way. You don't have to worry about that."

"Be good. There has been a misunderstanding between us. I can give you anything you want."

Aurora suddenly looked at him, her eyes fixed on his.

"Can I have you too?"

Kaelen froze, then instinctively frowned. His expression shifted, a faint blush creeping up his ears.

Aurora watched with interest. She had never known Kaelen could have so many expressions.

After a moment of internal struggle, Kaelen closed his eyes, as if making a great sacrifice. "Yes, I promise you."

With that, a weight seemed to lift from him, and he continued to coax her, one sweet word after another.

"As long as you come back with me, I will give you anything."

"I've sent Seraphina away from the manor. You will be the only mistress. No one will ever upset you again."

Aurora’s eyes widened in surprise. "Kaelen, what are you talking about? The only mistress of the manor will be your mate, my elder."

"Aren't you about to have your union ceremony with Seraphina? Don't put such a title on me."

Kaelen quickly explained, "There is no ceremony. It was all..."

He looked at Aurora uncomfortably, then shifted his gaze to the distance, his voice low. "It was all a show I put on to make you give up. It was all fake."

Aurora looked at the man before her as if he were a stranger. He was still as handsome and imposing as a snow-capped mountain, but the words coming out of his mouth were completely unlike the person she knew.

But no matter what, no matter Kaelen’s reasons, she had let go.

Seeing her silence, Kaelen took a step closer. "Aurora, don't worry, I won't do it again. I was wrong. Come back to my side, and I will do everything I can to make it up to you."

But Aurora didn't rush into his arms as he had imagined.

She remained where she was, not moving an inch, her attitude calm, as if she were watching a play performed by others, a mere outsider.

"Is that so? But I don't want you anymore."
