When the Moon No Longer Answers the Wolf Chapter 26
Aurora no longer avoided the issue and went straight to her parents.
"I heard everything this afternoon. Greystone City is in grave danger."
Her father looked a little uncomfortable, then feigned anger. "You... Who told you to eavesdrop?!"
"I did."
Her mother calmed her father down, patting his chest.
"Since you already know, we won't hide it from you."
She let go of her father's hand, turned, and picked up two bundles, handing them to Aurora and Victor.
"These contain travel money, passes, and documents for you."
"You must leave for the Western Continent immediately. Your father's good friend is in charge there. You won't have to worry about being without support."
Aurora didn't take them, stubbornly asking, "If we go, what about you?"
Her mother's eyes flickered, and she looked at her father. "We have to stay here and guard the city. There are all the people of the city to think about."
"Be good, Aurora. Wait for your father and me to come find you."
Aurora shook her head. "We can't escape. We'll just have a little more time to live."
Her mother forcefully pushed the bundles into their hands.
"But I want you to live, even if it's just a little longer."
Aurora didn't speak, standing her ground stubbornly.
Victor took her hand and put the bundles aside.
"Let us stay here. Even if you force us to leave, she'll just run back. You know I can't control her."
Her father glared at Aurora, who gave him an innocent smile. Finally, he sighed in defeat. "Do as you wish."
With her father's permission, Aurora went to the military camp every day, but she found that she couldn't help.
War in the human world was completely different from the wolf world. She wasn't an expert. So, she focused on preparing military supplies, with Victor tirelessly helping her.
A month later, after delivering the last batch of supplies to the camp, Aurora went straight to her room in the mansion and collapsed onto the bed.
A moment later, she heard a sound beside her.
Victor slowly lay down next to her, propping his head up to look at her.
"You want to go to the battlefield, don't you?"
Aurora turned to face him, meeting his perceptive eyes, and nodded without hesitation.
She suddenly noticed that his usually sparkling peach-blossom eyes were now bloodshot from lack of rest, giving him a decadent kind of beauty.
*Thump, thump.* Someone's heart was beating wildly.
Was it hers? Had she fallen for Victor?
Or was it because she had no power now? How could a human heart beat so fast?
Aurora had been in life-or-death situations on the battlefield many times before, and her heart had never beaten this fast.
Why now, at such a critical moment?
Aurora closed her eyes and turned away from him.
Ten days later, Aurora stood on the city wall with her father. The war was about to begin.
The Northern cavalry had traveled thousands of miles and were now like starving wolves, their eyes bloodshot.
"Brothers, charge! Let these cowards see what real men are! Gold, jewels, power, and women are all yours!"
Although Greystone City's army was well-trained, they were not as experienced as the battle-hardened wolf army. After a brief stalemate, the battle became one-sided.
An hour later, Greystone City sounded the retreat.
Fortunately, the Northern army was also tired from their long journey and didn't press their attack.
Her father looked at the bloody scene outside the city gates with a bitter smile. This had been their best chance, and they still hadn't won.
The fall of the city seemed inevitable.
As they were descending from the city wall, an arrow shot through the air, aimed straight at Aurora.
